Yeah fair point. I think the whole idea of the assessment was to stop the clubs from only caring about the onfield performance of their seniors, and to think about the other areas around the club. Definetly club champoinship up and down is a black and white way to go about it but over the last how many years the number of teams in Div 1 and 2 has been up and down like a yo-yo. If everyone agrees to "lock it in Eddie" with 12-12-12 then we can maybe have the one up and one down based on club championship as it is clear cut and visible to everyone. We just do not want that to start a bidding war.

Yes fair point, but as was said earlier, surely the club championship can be used with an eye on the club's structure and if the gca committee at the time don't think the club is in the right position to go up, second best should.
At the moment there is no incentives for the Manifolds, Torquays and Highton's to get back into Div 1 because it will most likely only be for one season.

Just another idea:
Why does a whole club have to get promoted?
Could we not promote the 1sts, 2nds, 3rds and so forth on the basis of where they finish on the ladder? It's probably not a great idea but then again it might go down well with the GCA haha :D

Im going to go with Alf clark and Loftus for the 1st ton and Tsitas for the 1st 5 wicket haul.

Unfortunately when Barry McMahon (god bless his soul) passed away FISHER was the one who introduced this assesment criteria, and AGG hasn't got the balls or leadership skills to change it

Do you think someone like Agg would ever read this forum and understand what he's doing to local cricket?
I'm not sure of who many people are in here but there is obviously some decent GCA players on this forum who care about their league and they are voicing their opinions, maybe he should spend some time having a look around, he might get some ideas!

I think Sharkbite would be keeping him up to date because he must know him from City, that is, if Sharkbite is actually from City :) And BTW I don't think Agg is behind all the issues, if everyone was that unhappy with him then he would have others go up against him when he is being re-elected as president. The main issue is clubs always wanting to come up to Division 1 because they are unahppy with Division 2, maybe the 3 divisions will change that.

Sharkbite is no doubt a 4th XI superstar.
Pimply 24 year old who hold's grudges left right and centre.
Trains every week but never gets anywhere.
Always 10th or 11th picked every week.
Pays his membership every 3rd season.
A Great Clubman.

his back and ankles might recover bowling on turf rather than hard wicket as he has currently done for his life. however he turns out he has plenty of promise to be a back-up to either Brad, Ando, Wonka, etc. he is young enough to learn a fair bit from those guys and is a genuniely quiet bloke from my dealings with him. hehe, you are right about Ando :)

Ok, I did warn you though!!!

hehe, fair assumption, you must be a very conservative man on that one !! I reckon Glenn and I would bring up the 100 runs with about 6 hits and only if we were facing fineleg2fineleg !!

I think this is by far and away the fairest system, it's how it's ran all over the world in club cricket, i know it seems messy but i think it would work.
This would give battles late in the year for all grades trying to avoid relegation and gain promotion also as seen in the premier league, championship and right through the div's in english football.
Have you seen some of the celebrations from clubs just surviving?
It could make a rather dull season for some lower clubs more exciting.

Daz, whilst we are on the political analogies, i suspect your 6 hits it's somewhat "liberal".....

You can translate for sharkbite if you wish....

I thought you were turning over a new leaf BBW, then you rip out the comment about being the former heavyweight champion of the world! Three posts of sense, then back to the same old crap. To quote the genius himself:

Maybe you Prez, but we have all seen Glenny bat. He has no chance of hitting me out of the park. Plus, he would spoon one straight back to me after not being able to read the deceptive straightness of my so called spin bowling.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

ok ok ok i have finally read through the 200 or so pages of garbage and have come to this conclusion:

Bringbackwarney and Sharkbite and to a lesser extent Dickiebird are very stupid!
Knowa, Smoking Joe hillarious.
Clearing pickets and Shanebourneorwarne have an opinion on everything!

Also how stupid are you guys not knowing who bringbackwarney is - have you actually read the stuff his posted?

BBW has agreed alot with Shanebourneorwarne, not by conincedence.
The majority of all the posts are done at the same time - Eg: SBW and BBW are online at the same time.
BBW on the first page lets everyone know how sh*t cammarotto is from marshall.
BBW is the first to tell the forum about how good Jock Irvine has done with getting the turf wicket and lets everyone know that the TAFE kids are gonna prepar it.
BBW is the first to ask about Benci coming to St Albans, the same as S.Farnsworth.
The first few pages from BBW are BPCA related: eg Bartel to Collendina.
Knows all the clubs Brett Anderton has played for including the name of the ACT club and reasons why he was "booted" out.
Has a vendetta against Thomson: think you'll find if you search deeper Addy had his issues when he got "booted" out of Thomson
BBW actually himself asks the forum about a possible move to drysdale for addy!
St albans again when he speaks about Braniff
tells the forum about marslands ambition to play at St Albans same as SBW

but the most important thing noted is:

the thread was talked about in bigfooty, someone by the name of jaya001 said there is a GCA/BPCA forum - Jaya001 (sounds alot like Jay Addy to me)

so ladies and gentleman i will be a one-post wonder but take a deeper look and you'll find out what i'm talking about.

Bringbackwarney and ShaneBourneorWarne are the same person!!

BYe ;)

BANG BANG BANG Great Idea.

We're in a dogfight not to get relegated, it is quite exciting and gives us something to play for instead of just seeing the season out for the sake of statistics. Even thou were in the bottom 3 the club has a buzz about it because we know we don't want to finish bottom 2, so we're trying to win.
Our seconds are midtable and "safe" but it was only last season they got promoted but the 1st team stayed in the same division.

It is done over here by every league, even the Minor County and Couny Leagues do it! So it obviously can work.

Would it work in the GCA? I don't know

Pity that the captain forgot about the prez's earlier heroics when trying to clean up the tail in the GF, rather than chasing a GF 5 for, for himself. ;)

It would have to better than the crap there running now, at least clubs know where they stand, no sulking you finish bottom 2 your down, finish top 2 your up. Everyone knows where they stand.
I mean if you got a shit committee and your still good enough, who really cares.
less politics more common sense.

thats just my opinion:cool:

Yes fair point and yes common sense isn't that common amongst the dinosaurs who are running the GCA.

It was just a suggestion and considering it works well elsewhere eg: England, NZ and South Africa. I think there are some melbounre leagues who run it like that aswell, so it's not the stupidest idea ever.

But let's be honest, no-one knows what is going to happen at the end of this season.

Is there going to be promotion/relegation?

You need a bloody University Degree to understand the system currently in place!

The system isn't a bad one, it just needs tinkering. I think there needs to be reward for running your club properly, with the encouragement of juniors etc working through the grades! It is fine to say promotion/relegation, but does this encourage strength throughout the comp/area? Not necessarily. It also encourages "buying" success, without placing too much emphasis on the club as a whole. See NDCC as oppsosed, i hope, to someone like South Barwon, who seemk to have found the perfect balance between attracting good senior players, and encouraging junior excellence.
