Not convinced at all mate, but there you go.

u have to remember that its div2!! they will be there abouts.

Manifold will be very good if they don't lose anyone, were competitive in div 1 last season for the majority, so the drop down won't be the worse thing ever for them, on-field anyways.

Is the younger Condy staying or has he been snapped up by Geelong CC?

Div 1:

Sth Barwon
Grovedale
East Belmont
Geelong West
Leopold

Pretty sure it will only be a Top 5 this season.
My mail is it will be a top 6 to due to an uneven draw as there is 13 rounds and may give some clubs an advantage ie: playing weaker team twice.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

True enough, think Div 2 might be the most competitive of the 3 divvys! Have a sneak for Torquay for some reason, but do think Thomson will take some beating, as will Manifold and Corio.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

u would think that geelong cricket club would get michael condy cause he is a great batt and not a bad wicket keeper and even as a bowler and with geelong theses days they just go and take the best juniors from other clubs eg. luke ibbs and daniel bolton from modewarre and so on

Geelong offer up and coming players the opportunity to play at the highest level in Geelong, with the best coaching in Geelong.
"go and take" is a bit over the top. Its not like the kids have to go.

yer that is a fair point there Mr Joe, will be very interesting to see how the teams get on this season.

with Bourke back Torquay will be ok in Div2, as long as they don't lose any more players :D

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Surely if Geelong was having an u/25's Baars, Sam Hall, Kenny Spence, J Moore, Yelland, B Alan would be picked?

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Torquay have some decent young kids - Kid called Tommy Dunn who was in the Addy a few weeks back as he is a top Football Goalkeeper, is thoroughly decent all rounder. He will go very well in Div 2. He had a few good games last year, and is a year older and stronger. Bourke will get the best out of them, along with getting stacks of runs and wickets himself.

The key's are Bosworth and Smelly, probably more so Bosworth. Smelly is hit and miss, and that's what you get. devastating yes, consistent, no.
lets hope thomson havent spent to much money on one of there KEY pick-ups, my tip is that he will play half of the games and the other half will be at 'the breakwater hotel'!!

yer i spose last year although alot of there players were exposed in division one thru lack of depth will only benefit them in the long run.

Tom Aldridge is a decent left hander swing bowler who should benefit from a full season in the ones.

Yes Bourke, Ferguson, Smiljanic... who will score the most runs.

The weird thing is, they will all probably take alot of wickets aswell :D

Hows the rock u been hiding under freddi?!!
Allen wont be playing with east this year- will play in melbourne.
Moore didnt play last year (apart from a short stint in England).
Spence has always had talent but is about the most overrated bat in the comp.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

All top class GCA players so should be a good competition! I really think it will be a battle of the kids around these guys though. Different to Div 1 where all players can do a job, Div 2 is gonna be a case of which junior guys mature enough through the year to perform!

and i didn't realise sam hall was under25, would definitely be in the team :D

fair observation there.
Highton are supossed to have a few youngsters there aswell.
Is Louis "i'm a division 2 specialist" Cameron staying on there?

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

No idea mate, but there are a few "Divvy 2" specialists this year who may get a shock with the standard going up!

Shark Bite, MIillard for Lindsay is basically a straight swap.

Scott Lindsay will make consistant runs and is a complete batsman. Millard does an amazing job for the natural talent he was given but has a very limited game. Millard will not make runs if you know where to bowl to him.

Travis Agg will be the loss of the season. Marsland is a talent, but what else do they have in the bowling stocks? Crellin has to be done. Kent Agg is honest but not front line.

Don't forget Adam Gaylard either. And don't write off St Peters. They had a solid season last year and were dissapointed by their loss in the semi. Had four players score over 350 last year and one of their better bats in Clay Nelson had a bad year. Thomson and Mano I think will take the headlines but St Peters could well slip under some guards.[/QUOTE]

haha on eastern park no. 2, they scored 700 didn't they.
wouldn't read to much into there figures, gaylard scored 200 in that game.
like playing on a postage stamp, what a joke that was.

Clay Nelson's main role is to sledge the opposition, and even then he is a battler.

good to see he is in the "team of good blokes" ;)

Any news on Ben Nichols? will he play again this year.. the same for peter grozdanovski?

Gaylard score about 150 in that game and over 500 for the season. 500-150 = 350. I think you are referring to Tim Hester, who did score 200 in the game. The two clubs played there because they had two. Both clubs had no ground.
Clay Nelson had a bad year last year; season before he made 360 and is always in the top four or 5 in league bowling ave.

Aside from the small ground at College which was a once off; Murgheboluc use one every week for their lower grades. What a disgrace that is. Like playing in your back yard.

i'm sure they'd love to play you guys in the BPCA but they are in the GCA, practice matches are indeed that.... practice.
Saw you play them in the 20/20, you guys were good and no doubt you would be in the top5 in divvy 2, just need to get in there!!

And any chance you could score a run this year Johnny?

You becoming more and more famous for your 160 odd in u13s :D

i averaged just under 30 with the bat comin in at 4. Not to bad, i never said i was a freak.

The St Albans Road Cup is still looking nice and shiny in the cabinet at St A's ;)

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

How clubs will go this year

East Belmont - Are strong every year but dont reward their kids. Should finish in the top 5.
Geelong West - My flag favourites. Have recruited well and will finish in the top 5. Some good kids comming through.
Grovedale - Havnt heard much about them, if its anything like it was last year then it will be there come feb/march. Who will replace harper?
Bell Post Hill - On the stage of rebuilding. Some bright kids comming through, although they wont play finals.
Lara - Pending on work for Danny Hughes, if he plays they will be a solid finals contendor. Without him they could struggle.
Leopold - "Pold" have kept their cards very close to them. Has anybody heard anything about them? going on last season they were very competive.
Newcomb & District - Had high hopes for this club with stars like; koliba, babbs, farnsworth. They have done very little in the GCA. Could this season be the one? Wont play finals.
Newtown - Always a suprise packet. Alot of gun kids comming through. Although they wont make finals.
South Barwon - They are the real deal. A tremendous first 11 side. goes right through the powerful club. Top 3 finish im judging.
St Joseph's - Have picked up geelong champion, Daniel Fanning. Are on the verge of a big season. if they make finals they could do some serious damage.

Please add to this as I'm a keen follower of the GCA.

is it true jay addy wont be playing this year due to work??? is that true???

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

St Albans will go close this year if the big personalities at our club all get along. Too early to know at this stage though..
Irvine no good though thats for sure.

St Albans
Thomson
Highton
St Peters
Manifold Heights.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

at north we've gained millard as coach and a bloke from the bush who apparently played essendon 2s in the vca. not sure how good he is atm but we havent trained yet so i guess time will tell. younger guys are all a year older and expect a big year from sam hall, turning all his forty fiftys and sixtys into 80s 90s and 100s.
on the downside weve lost mitch troy and ash mclean to north shore, and nobodys 100% sure on wat scownys doing yet

what do u think about guild st.marys being dropped to divi3?? after being very competitive through the year and being in the grandfinal, i thought that they could of been given a bit more of a chance in divi2?? there are far worse clubs that could have been dropped down instead of guild.... anyone else think so??

it doesn't go on just 1st team performance...a club must have a good junior structure, strong committee and admin side of things and also ground and facilities has a bearing, obviously these things were lacking...if they are good enough they will rectify these things and be back up in the near future.

Because they had their Major Raffle Day on the Sunday to help raise funds to pay for their installation of water tanks. Don't forget that GSM themselves made over 300.
