you work at telstra for love of your work (LOL)
telstra paying you $0
optus (another club) offers you $2000....
better hope u earn $60k on the weekend playing cricket :D

if ur aiming to earn money from cricket, better hope u are at least good enough 2 play for ur state. else it's a bit of a joke to abandon ur mates for a lousy few thousand bucks

now that i do agree with@|

If players move clubs to earn money to support family etc.. that fine, nothing wrong with that

well obviously the player will suss out who's there before moving :D

it's a valid point about supporting families

is that a bad example. Some players play at a club for nothing and are loyal people then get offered money else where, does that make them whores. In your example your getting paid already and its a personally decision to move just for the money. what a difference a few years make, put that draw out a few years ago and you would be saying South Barwon have got one of the toughest draws. The draw would have been totally random, drawn out of a hat. Normally it's done in front of the clubs but due to the extra time taken in regards to Manifold issue it must have been done at a GCA management meeting. clubs knew it was going to be uneven because they did not want to play 11 two days games for the year. AFL is uneven, GFL is too (I think) so as long as we have cricket for the full 6 months everything will sort itself out.

Good point, thats why they kept it a final 6 to help clubs that may have a rough draw play finals, and we all know what can happen in finals.

any side can come up and beat you on there day, especially at the 1st XI level where every side has players that can play. In saying that from past history you would have an easier draw by playing Newcomb twice than say an East Belmont but you never know what happens until you turn up to play. I do remember one day seeing one J Addy making a century there for Newcomb in a game, which I am assuming that they won.

got done by a couple!

id just think about the extra $300 or so a week, and just think no matter how bad they are, they couldn't be anywhere near as painful as BBW

oh no, we copped city in a 2 dayer....might pencil in those weeks for a holiday rather than spend 75 overs looking at the better looking end of anyone called elliott :p

hmmm :D

not having a go at you but just something to think about!

You've hit the nail right on the head here with the aforementioned players. They obviously put making money ahead of club loyalty, mates, etc, etc. and want nothing more out of cricket then $$$; even putting it above their enjoyment. There is absolutley no doubt about it and you cannot argue with facts.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Are the GCA Finals going to be at Esat Belmont again? Surely a change would be good?
As for the draw i think we (Joeys) have done very well. Could play a massive role in deciding the finals.
As for all the Thomson boys.has anyone spoken with Rik Humphrey or Steiny? Are they playing this season?

i think they should try and organize the grand final at GCC (kardinia park) that would be the best place for it with no advantage to any side and great conditions.

i would also have the div2 grand final at kardinia park west, so you could have both grand finals on display, im sure this would attract massive crowds.

whats peoples thoughts on this?

It's a great idea and the GCA is very keen on it but the scheduling of the VCA makes it too difficult to organise with their finals. ie. have a look at a season like last year. If it was scheduled for the GCA to play both finals down there and the VCA is up to say the second round of finals and the week before two Geelong CC sides get home finals; it would leave the GCA a week to get two other venues up and running. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you but the logistics of it all make it hard to organise.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

don't think it will ever happen as you cannot have a grand final wicket prepared in a week, it is really a month out that a curator needs to know he is having a grand final there to get his best wicket prepared. If it was played on hard wicket, then no problem, it would be able to be moved with a weeks notice. As long as the BEST ground is given the grand final each year then it should not be a problem. Clubs do strive to have the best ground going around and it is good reward for them to be awarded the grand final. I just think if clubs were made aware half way through the season what the leading grounds are then everyone would know at that stage and be able to speak up if they thought things were wrong. Obviously every club is going to think there ground is the best, you just need to make sure that whoever is making these decisions does so on an unbiased basis. I think East Belmont has always been one of the best grounds and last year was still within the top three, but I think by the vote against Graeme at the GCA election showed most wanted change. Not all clubs want to host the grand final, so maybe clubs first have to apply to be considered for a grand final and then we get all clubs to vote on grounds.

yeah that is true, i guess you could have an idea how there looking 6 weeks out, if the ground wasn't going to host a home final to geelong on either grown, they should go for it.

i think with geelong having a full time curator it would make it easier to get a wicket for a gf in less time.
if there wasn't going to be a geelong home final there the decision could be made 6 weeks out from the gf it would just depend on how they where looking in the latter rounds i guess.
