Please, not that sharkbite. Your insult is really having a major effect on me. I am not sure if life is worth living after that harsh comment. You really have a way with words sharkbite. Have you ever considered a job in politics??? A man with your educational brawn and personality would have many supporters. Don't waste your time on here, do something constructive with your obvious talent.

Why do you keep saying you're leaving and then keep coming back? I reckon you've done it 2 or 3 times now.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

ok, which clubs think that we should be having some kind of T20 competition this season. Pretty much it would be held at the 1st XI level (sorry The Butcher, not to down grade the other grades !) and maybe at a knockout comp level. Not sure if Cricket Victoria are having the T20 statewide comp again, but the winner would progress to that stage, or the top two ?? Anyway, it is time we get fair dinkum about this and discuss how it can move forward in a professional manner. I reckon Smokin Joe will have some good ideas in this area.@|

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I was just browsing through the BPCA website and found this score card from country week a few years ago:

Alberton second innings
L.Toner c Norquay b Brew 3
S.Petitt c Daniel b Brew 7
J.Daff lbw b Mallett 13
S.Kohlman b Mallett 9
S.Smith b Mallett 0
C.Earls lbw b Mallett 0
D.Rash b Mallett 1
G.Underwood not out 4
J.Swift b Smith 0
T.Vardy lbw b Smith 0
T.Dillon stpd Daniel b Drew 3
Sundries (2)
Total 42
Fall: 5, 15, 28, 28, 28, 32, 35, 39, 39.
Bowling: D.Gray 6-0-0-13; O.Brew 6-3-2-5; J.Mallett 6-6-5-0;
T.Ludbey 6-0-0-20; T.Smith 2-1-2-3; T.Drew 1.4-1-1-0.

That is some fair figures for a country week carnival.

I had better stay in the ones then so I can watch you from a distance.

u should have a reasonable view from fine leg!!! That's for the first 10 overs, after which you get so stuffed from running up and down that u have to retire for the day :D Esp if L/R handed bowlers alternating which should happen often!

Mr Second XI: don't mind actually if you come and bowl slow bouncers at me, if it happens often enough i'll actually learn how to play them!!

Why not just run it like the old Harvey world cup that they use to run as a Sunday knockout comp? being t20 it could be played on any day though.

I still think sean is one of the best going around, but can't put him in doesn't play enough, he'd have a wedding or be at the races anyway so would be unavailable:rolleyes:

I wouldn't think quicky would be that bad in the field keeps himself fit, but that is a fair point.
It is a younger blokes game.

I would be tempted to put Damien Hester from Sth Barwon in as my 'keeper. He use to keep for St Peters. He can open the batting and bats very aggressively against the new ball and when in full-flight great to watch. That way, you could also pick an extra batsman.

Re: All the debate about Sean O'Leary, I like others personally don't know him but if he hardly ever plays and has not play senior GCA cricket, he definitely doesn't deserve the title best in the region. I'm not having a go at the bloke or the BPCA; don't get me wrong but if has got a very low level of committment and hasn't even played in the best league in the region, he doesn't deserve mentioning. My opinion only.

As you know Prez. I am behind you 100%. The GCA need to make a decision on this. It is a known fact that just about all clubs would be interested. I just don't know why the GCA doesn't start listening to the clubs. I mean how hard can it be to set this comp up?

u would have to throw in fergie, danny hughes snd loftus in the middle order, and smelly at the top for some hammering and stace down the order for some late hitting along with his spinners

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Ok, will talk some cricket to keep BBW happy...

Pickets, got a couple questions for you...

- Luke Wierzibowski (or however the f*&k u spell that haha) - noticed he hit 172* last season, in 4s I think. bowls spin too i believe? how old is he? what are his prospects?

- is Cam Russell going to be fit this yr to bowl higher?
- who do u rate as young up and comers at Newtown?

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

We played a 20/20 against Newtown 2 years ago and Loftus got a ton in 11 overs. It was amazing. That bloke Rees who now plays at East Belmont hit a very nice 50 with a few large ones.

Does anyone know what happened to child prodigy Stevie Daniels cricketing career? He played a few years with us

I didn't bring sean up i was just asked about him, and gave my thoughts on him, trust me he would be the last bloke to put himself up there in the best players.

Also he did play a couple of years in GCA1 with city as a 16/17 year old.

We have a 20Twenty championship in the league i play in at the minute.
It is played midweek and starts about 6 and finishes about 8:30-9:00.
Quite well run and it's great to play in :D

This could surely be done, eg: Light and weather. It's only 40 overs maximum, so the wicket won't take to much damage.
Could be played any night of the week the two opposing teams nominate, as long as it is played during the week.
Possibly have it grouped in North-East, North-West ... and so forth like the division one system a few seasons ago, seed the divison 1,2 and 3 teams accordingly. If umpiring was an issue i'm sure we could do it ourselves, then bring in some umpires for the finals.

If you started the league at the start of December, few qualifiers before xmas then some more in January and have the final mid February, well before finals. I don't know what any one else's thougts are but the more cricket the better, 20 overs of solid fielding practice and the chance for a hit in game type scenario, invaluable :) Any other ideas?

If for any reason the GCA doesn't go ahead with a 20-20 league, would any other club be interested in staging a seperate tournament?
Wouldn't be very hard at all to organise.

That system of grading clubs didn't work back then because of stronger clubs in the one half. And the same still excists. Just seed a certain amount of teams based on the Ladder positions of the previous year.

Umpire ourselves!!! are you crazy

Yes fair point about ladder positions from the previous year :)
Umpiring ourselves was just said as an idea to:

a) make it easier to organise
eg: won't have to tell them when they are required mid-week

b) cost effective
eg: won't have to pay subs to play as we won't be paying umpires

but yes i understand your points :)

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I am hearing the GCA are still discussing staging a 20/20 comp this year of some sort. I suppose we will just have to wait and see. As we all know, the GCA are never in a hurry to make a positive decision.
