General Chat 2011/12

few rumours are getting around the traps . smackers turner is back at yarraville club after his stint with grand united one day team . apparantly he wants to turn his back yard into etihad stadium and have it fully covered . massive one is that rubble pacholli is going to captain the seconds after doing the rounds at a few local clubs , they say it was afternoon tea that won him back . richie richardson is back captaining the thirds again under the presumption that the club will pay for a hair hat for him .

Any thoughts on the proposed 1 day rules, it seems the VTCA may have been listening:
  • Team batting second entitled to a max of 40 (or 36) overs
  • Game finishes once there is a result (bummer if you're a top team playing a bottom team wanting those beloved bonus points)
  • No extra fielding restrictions (the upmires have enough to worry about)
  • No bowler can bowl more the 1/5 of the scheduled overs in an innings
  • After the second ball passing outside leg stump in any over, the umpire shall call "No Ball" for any subsequent deliveries passing outside leg stump in that over (interesting to see what happens if batsmen move around the crease)
  • No restriction on batsmen
All in all good changes and better late than never. I hope those crusty delegates that all our clubs send along vote a resounding yes.

i maybe a bit bias here being a keeper but wont this take out any chance of a leg side stumping.. if the ball is called no ball
e.g.. the bowler first two balls of his spell get thrown down leg side then on the last ball of his over he gets one just past the batsmen's pads who at the same time loses balance, and the keeper removes the bails... he would be given not out on the count of it being a no ball... maybe it should be judged wide instead...

love the new oneday rules about time..
Legside wides will be wides not no balls so thats okay
and get with the times SS it frees up the last few overs to have a dip without handing overs to the other team..

Taking bets on the next club to leave the vtca.
With teams dropping like flies I wonder weather they
Have even bothered to ask why? Dictatorships are run the
Same way.

I assume Heatherton has nominated someone for the match committee then "Pres". Considering there was ONE nomination for the new President, I highly doubt its a dictatorship. Would be great to see some Southern representation on the committee to put forward a case as to why clubs are leaving. Let's hope the strong clubs like McKinnon and Beauy can put forward a nomination to the Executive and represent the South.

What's the go with Bentleigh having 5 overseas players on the permist and clearances list?? Would seem a lot.

I don't know the circumstances of each club, but they're not alone, and if the current points system allows it, I don't think it's going to be long before some more clubs end up folding or merging. Elephant in the room really. Not so local cricket anymore is it....

how many 8 point poms have really dominated over here? very hit and miss good luck to them... be a very lucky if they have 5 good ones..

It's not really how good they are, but the fact they need to import 5 overseas players to make up the numbers. How many senior teams do they have? Not a sustainable proposition to bring in 5 overseas players. I agree with DHack, local cricket is getting less local.

Mentone have 4 and Old Mentonian's have 3. I also see that St John's in the Subbies are looking at bringing in 3 O/S players after having 4 last year.
