Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

Mate, a Read-Play Grade 1 English Willow would be almost impossible to find I reckon, because top of the range bats don't come Ready-Play usually. Oh wait, you want Harrow, still hard to find I reckon. Why can't you knock it in? All you need is a mallet or an old cricket ball...

Ok, onto the bat ordering.

If you buy from the Greg Chappel Cricket centre here in Australia, it will cost you $40 AU for shipping.

They have the Grade 1 English Willow Puma Ballistic for $220. That's pretty good I reckon.

There's the link. So that's $260 AU. And you'll get it within a week. Only thing is, it doesn't come ready play, and I don't think you'll find a Grade 1 with ready play.

What is your age? If you want a harrow, I'm guessing 12-13? You might want to invest in a Small Mens, it will be a bit more, but you won't have to get one again next season.

Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

i am 14 and my friend said harrow size will be good for me and i am young so i dotn know to knock in i want ready to play

Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

14? Then get small mens mate, I'm 14 (in 2 days xD) and I'm getting either Small Mens or Full Size, harrow is defintly too small for me, but I am 170cm, dunno if your tall or not?

It's done on height rather than age but you will in all likelihood be around the harrow to small mens size. If you give me an idea of how tall you are then I'll be able to advise you further.

As for the bat itself, are you looking to buy locally or to have it shipped in? If you let me know how much you want to spend then I can probably find one for you.

Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

i am around 5,5feet tall and i live in canda so i want to be shipped in for the price i dont want cheap one and not really high price but it has to be knocked in and puma ballastic grade 1 english willow thanks

Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

At the moment you're in the height range for a size 6 bat but I would probably recommend a harrow so that you have some growth in it (anyway you're right on the 'border' between the 2 sizes).

How much would you like to spend in total?

about $200-250 canadian dollors

From what I've seen a Puma Ballistic in Harrow size will cost around $185, postage is harder to gauge but I'd hazard a guess at about $40 maybe $50 which keeps you under the top en of your budget.

As for ready to play, most Harrows come pre-knocked in but it is still recommended that you spend a little bit of time on them. If the bat is left natural then you will need to apply a coat or two of raw linseed oil to help seal the bat.

Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

Ok, my top 3 in order:

http://www.cricketsupplies.com/detail.asp?productid=19608 - good kit plus it comes with a bag. Bat meets your requirements as well.

http://www.cricketsupplies.com/detail.asp?productid=19002 - I'm a fan of Gray Nicholls, one of the better 'large' manufactures out there. Nice bat with this set.

I would also recommend looking at the Kookaburra kit as well.

In terms of deals that site is one of the best, others may do it but you would need to ask them and haggle a bit.

Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

In the cases of all 3 that I flagged up all the bats are made from Grade 1 English willow, which is the highest grade for cricket bats.

Though not an exact science, grade 1 bats should provide good playability as well as looking the best. This is not to say that a lower grade bat won't play better than it, but on average the grade 1 should be the best. More on how they grade wood can be found here - Cricket Bat Willow Grades.

Looking at all 3 sets, well, they are very much the same in terms of quality of the bats, pads and gloves so it comes down to personal choice. I like the look of the Slazenger kit but would also look closely at the Gray Nicholls - indeed, if you ask me tomorrow then I may plump for the GN over the Slaz, there really is that little to choose between them.

One thing I will say now is that I can't guarantee the playability of the bats - willow is natural and therefore varies from tree to tree; bat to bat. In an ideal world you should always go to buy your bat in person so that you can try a few out and see what they look and feel like. However, that's not always possible so it's a case of using experience and knowledge to minimise the risk of getting a poor piece of wood.

Re: Help me Buy a puma ballistic bat???

From what I know that bat will be grade 2 willow. In all honesty you probably wouldn't notice much difference between the two grades apart from the grade 2 would have a few more blemishes on the face.
