Hole in toe

I recently took the shoe goo off of the toe of my bat, well to my surprise there was a small hole in the toe of the bat.

Not just any hole, it was like a drilled hole, very small and evenly circular, going from the toe inward to the bat.

Just wanting to know if I should fill it, if so using what?

And if I should put shoe goo on ASAP so that water doesnt get into the toe.

and there was me thinking it was going to be another thread about Bowlers shoes!

The hole in the bat you will get told are the following.

A: Where the Bat is put on a Lather for spiining the handle and shaping.

or

B: Where your supposed to put a drop of oil to stop the toe cracking

personally i think its the first as you should not be oiling the bottom of the bat!

I thought you were meant to oil the toe as to protect against swelling if water gets in there.

You should give the toe a wipe over with a linseed oil sacked cloth (well not soaked in linseed but with linseed on it).

As for the hole, could be where it was on the lathe - what bat is it? Also, how deep is the hole, any chance of a picture?

As said before it's very likely that it's from the bat being clamped on the lathe whilst binding the handle. Especially if it's very circular.

i really try not to put too much oil on the actual toe.

my poor Newbery samurai is on a diet from Linseed oil at the moment it has a bad habit of swallowing more than it needs!
