That surely has to be as good as it gets. Unless of course England are going to have one of their good days.

Every time I leave a cricket match for a few minutes wickets tumble lol.
Well then I say this in the nicest way, piss off untill the England innings starts :p

Re: ICC Champions Trophy 2009

England should really win this, 2/46 chasing 213. Serious questions need to be asked if they can't get there.

Re: ICC Champions Trophy 2009

They got lucky with the toss, bowling first on a green top.

Current game sees Australia batting first and they are currently 149-4 of 31. Not as dominant as they'd like but 275 should see them safe.

Re: ICC Champions Trophy 2009

can i ask if this windies team is the understrength one?

im not too sure on affairs at the moment.

Re: ICC Champions Trophy 2009

well from the T20 WC and this so far australia looks like they cant handle big comps, no matter the opposition.

they are getting rolled here.

Re: ICC Champions Trophy 2009

Kind of makes those people who suggested that Ponting should retire from ODI's pretty silly doesn't it. Without him we'd be bowling right now. This Australian ODI team is pretty much a one man team - as it basically is in the test arena.

Basically we rely too much on Ponting to build our innings.

What about superstar Fergie? Hell, some people actually think this guy is ready for test cricket, some have even said he should take Ponting's spot!!!.

Really, when Ponting retires we're ****ed.

even when ponting fails with the bat he supports the team in other ways. so does hussey, and in some ways lee. they are pivotal points in the side and all help without anyone else noticing.

Re: ICC Champions Trophy 2009

Don't mention Clarke either, he is IMO an ordinary limited overs player. Which is surprising, early in his career (circa 2002-2003) he was a bustling free scoring player coming in down the order. A bit like Bevan, he'd run hard between the wickets and pick the gaps to get a boundary - always taking the spinners on, especially down the ground.

With a move up the order his finding it more difficult, which is slightly concerning, because normally the truly elite players don't have those issues.

Still, we are too much of a one man team, in both test cricket and ODI cricket.

If we are to go deep into this competition we are going to need a few Ponting specials.

Which is slightly ironic, considering the crap Ponting cops from the Australian fans and media.

IMO when he retires we'll miss him more than the likes of McGrath and Warne.

Only then will we truly release how great a player he is, a truly magnificent specimen of a cricketer.

IMO going up the order to where he is is easier then batting down the order.

batting at the end requires a special sort of player. one that can bat for a long period in a collapse and save the team, or score freely off every ball and quickly.

for example bevan and hussey are two players like that. hussey has always been almost matched to bevan, although he doesnt quite meet the bradman of ODI cricket.

i agree with you completely there.

at the moment the team is filled with hit and miss players, as all australian teams have. its just that the whole team either misses or hits.

to try and explain my point, a couple of years ago when the side was at its best, the team had players like hayden and gilly, when one failed almost always the other filled in and succeeded. this happened all down the order.

that way the whole team didnt need to be filled with consistent freaks, but normal players that worked as a team.

now the team is more considerate of their own game. when one fails, so does the next and the next.

ponting is one of those older players that does do that, its just he doesnt have the players to back him up too. hussey does do that, but even i admit in these last two series he has shown inconsistent.

hopes as well is a great example of this, but he has fallen into that trap too.

lee is a great one for this. i expect him to do something worthwhile with the bat in support of johnson.
