I wonder how many posts I have in these sorts of threads, because I only started in the 99.94 club not long ago. And I still post a lot on every other board.
Well I enjoy having been here less time then everyone yet have more posts. Could probably go have a life anytime soon.
Don't be silly... You were just saying how you're being away from the outside world was probably a good thing.
I've got to say, at this point probably 130 out of my 207 posts would be trying to give you a touch up here, 30 on the Fantasy board and 10 throughout assorted boards. The remaining posts would be discussing local cricket that I'm actually involoved in.
Surprisingly I have a larger social life then I do computer life.. actually I'm quite new to the interwebs. But this sort of forum keeps me from being too social
I presume you still read over the more serious boards?
And I would like to have some club chat but it would be pointless in that there are barely any other Queenslanders on here, let alone Sunny Coast boys.
Yeah, I read over them. But I've never really been very passionate about professional sports; and as a result I'm not too opinionated on many issues (Apart from the scourge that is Twenty20 cricket...) and therefore don't post too regularly.
We actually have a thread on BigFooty for our local league that gets more exposure than the BigCricket thread which is quite amusing really... (When I posted the link on BigCricket to the BigFooty thread, it caused mas cabios to even create a BigFooty account and try to get them to come over here, with minimal success; there's nothing quite as satisfying as seeing the poster 'mas cambios' listed as a newbie!)
Cricket is the only major Australian sport I am pashionate about. In fact, very pashionate. I can't help myself to things when it comes to cricket. I use this as an example often... I quite often get out of bed with my girlfriend to check the score... and it's not like we were sleeping
I have watcheda lot of games all the way back to the 70s and some back further, and my father and grandfather telling me many many stories which their opinions of over 100 years comined has rubbed off on me and as a result I have some strong opinions, theories and bases. If you start an argument over professional cricket with me, I assure you I will get the last word always!
All the cricket fanaticism has left me no time for major followings of any other sport. And me signing on BigFooty just for the cricket board is a little silly when this site is much, much better.
The sport of cricket I love, the same could be said of Aussie rules (however I despise the actual AFL, so therefore am one of the least passionate AFL followers, even though every weekend during winter I am doing odd jobs around one of the two local clubs I'm affiliated with).
And following the Australian cricket team I do blindly, however, even though I live in Victoria, I actually follow the Bulls. As I used to live in Queensland, yet do not have the vaguest idea on most of their squad (yet I know the background of nearly all the present Bushrangers, and don't really care).
Well I have spent my whole life in the one town and plan on not moving. Therefore I'm very patriotic and its Bulls all the way, Australia all the way, nothing else exists. Which lets me down in conversations about other states teams because I think every Queensland player is better then them all because I watch them closely.
I also follow the Warriors closely now that Nofke has made the unfortunate switch, I'm buddies with him.
Where'd you live in Queensland if you don't mind me asking and you don't mind answering?
In a town called Rathdowney, it was about 20 minutes south of Beaudesert I'm pretty sure... I played my first ever season for the Rathdowney CC, and there were some bloody hot days that year (or so I thought back then anyway).
The other reason I can't follow teams so blindingly (other than Australia of course) is that I know how agitated one-eyed supporters make me...
Not a bad place of the world down there... a bit too far south for my liking.
I'm not as one teamed and extremely opinionated as I say I am, but I like to enjoy watching and chosing my team compared to what is playing, then seeing if that team would work. I have also gotten a total of 8 people to start enjoying cricket too... going from not playing or watching at all to pretty dedicated followers. I think getting involved in cricket at some point in your life is benificial to you as such is the nature of a proper game, with the big emphasis on the spirit of the game, honest, integrity and the want for everyone to have a go no matter how bad you are. We have lots of family friendly days to get people involved in some aspect of teamwork and socialising with one another in a non-pressurised situation.
Have you ever had the 'joy' of knocking in a bat? I spent 12 hours on my last bat, only for it to be destroyed in a net session rage. Alas, now I have yet another bat to knock in, and this one is feeling promising, however, there's nothing worse than having a bat, yet being unable to use it...
