Peter Helliar is about as funny as a getting punched in the face.

Totally agree with that. Fawlty Towers and Blackadder are probably my favourites, countless other ones are quality as well.

Only stand up comedian I can think of in the last 10 years of note is Ross Noble, and that's because he is quite old fashioned at times, and just simply incredible when it comes to thinking speed.

He's only funny if you watch his full stage performances... which can be a bit of a hassle as they go for no set period of time, just whenever he starts and whenever he finishes.

Very strange for me to say this, but I haven't actually seen any of his work. Doesn't happen that much to me that, having to say I haven't seen a comedian :D
