Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

If it's outdoors than it takes the piss. Indoors is understandable though, although 3 times a week is a bit excessive.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

yer our clubs own bowlin machine we bought last yr but we pay 1.50 so basically its £4 a net session if we personally want 2 use the machine..... i net once 4 u15 and twice for seniors in the week btw

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

Well, mines cheap :) I pay £25 for colts and mens play me in the 2nds for no additional fee on membership, its £3 for tea because im a colt so its damm good.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

ours is $130 for students u18 playin opens
$180 for anyone else

rofl communal boxes r filthy... cost no more the $15 to buy one 4 yaself....

Just got the rego letter. $110 this year.

We get a match day playing shirt instead of a training t-shirt this year :D

Our seniors have to pay $275 a year plus I think match day fees.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

So is it expensive considering the cost of living in your respective countries.
Like for us in India is the same and cheap for u guys considering the currency exchange rates.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

hmmmnnn,

subs = £75 per year senior
£35 Junior / Student

Match Fee = £10 per game Senior
£5 Junior (under 16)

we have no bar, no nets at our village ground.

summer nets are free as we use the ground outfield winternets are £5 for hour and a half indoors

i played 25 games year for the club so it can be very expensive........ i think our match fees are expensive as we are by far the most expensive locally and even our subs are highest around...

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

I remember our school asked for about £10(which is expensive in Indian currency) for just playing a couple of matches. I think that was one of the reasons why our school team got all out for 38.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

We pay £50 for the season and then £10 per match (adults) Nets though in the winter is increadibly cheap £2 for nearly 2 hours and some of them still moan about the costs! They should cancel their subscriptions to SKY as far as I'm concerned if they're short on cash.

I've just read back through some of the postings where people are moaning about the costs. I think for what you end up doing and all the camaradare £10 a week isn't bad. I think people need to put things in perspective. Think in terms of what you buy to eat during the day while you're at work/school/college. Most people buy an absolute pile of **** and call it food/drink, paying in excess of £1.00 for bottles of carbonated water full of sugar and a similar price for tea and coffee. Take a critical look at what you buy during an average day when you're at these places and tally up how much you pay for this **** per day and then multiply it by 5 days and then by however many weeks you do it. Then look at it's value - what are you putting into your body and how good it is for you. Then think of the value of your involvement in cricket.

Then think of the commitment that the people that organise your team put in. If it's anything like my own team the commitment from a core of primary members is vast and they do it for free and it completely takes over their lives. Then think of pitch fees, most teams have to pay for the rent of the pitch from the council or owners in our case that adds up to nearly £4000 a year. Then the lease/rent on the clubhouse, equipment and maintenance and you can see that it's a lot of money especially if you are a small club.

So think before you moan too much!

You can moan so much about any of this - diesel and petrol for a start when you're driving to away matches. I'm not one for kit so I'm happy to buy 2nd hand gear off the internet, I've got no problem with doing that. I don't buy the England kit or any of that branded clothing - no-ones watching me and I'm not in a fashion show so I save money there. I'd say to most of you if you're thinking about giving it up because your skint cancel your SKY subscription and send them a letter telling them it's too expensive and too exclusive to the majority of the cricketing community. Save yourself a packet doing that!

I'd say that it's not overly expensive to play but things do add up.

It seems that the biggest influence on prices will be whether the club has a bar or not!

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

i'm sure i spend more in petrol travelling to matched than match fees some times! let alone cost of wear and tear on the car and miles covered.

The only reason i moan is match fee's if i play 4 league games and one or two sunday games i'm spending £60 a month just on match fee's without travel etc!

in todays climate thats expensive, even more expensive than my sky! ;)

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

I play Cricket for free. I play in the local ground. I don't have to pay, hurray! You all waste up money hahah!

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

Lol, what is the standard of your local ground though? I can play for free at a local ground too but it has very poor facilities.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

Do you play for a club? In a competition? Does your ground have club rooms? Does your club hire out an oval? Does your club have any equipment that players can use? Does your ground have a grandstand? Does your ground have nets? Do you play on synthetic grass or turf or do you play on just normal grass? Do you play with real cricket balls or just tennis balls?

It's not a waste of money, because any of us can play park cricket with some mates (except for mas who doesn't have any mates) but club cricket is the real deal.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

I hardly think it is a waste of money. I would gladly pay it out of my own pocket simply because of the fun it brings to the week. So the money goes to very good use

We can all do that but for most forms of organised cricket (or sport for that matter) you're going to end up paying something, somewhere.

The main thing is that you enjoy it, regardless of anything else, so keep it up!

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

dont get me wrong i dont mind paying but it does eat into beer money! lol

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

I guess I must get off lightly from reading this:

£10 subs for the year (as an U18)
£5 for away matches
£3 and tea for two (some rolls or something) for home matches

My club doesn't have a bar but we do have a bowling machine. I think we're fairly lucky to have a local rich guy who likes cricket that pays for our overseas every year and I guess that makes a difference to match fees.

Re: Match Fees - How much does it cost you to play?

Sorry I didn't make it very clear, I meant overseas player, not actually playing overseas. We get a pro and an amateur every year. As it happens this year our pro was an Indian but we didn't get him through an agent and he turned out to be a fraud.
