Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat 2009/10
Congratulations again to the Pascoe Vale boys.
A hard fought win against a worthy opponent. Played at Barkley, expecting a road and we got everything but. To Barkley defence, Soccer ran over time on the ground leaving little time for preparation.
You might say 400 runs in a day doesn't constitute a mine field, but it would be fair to say, not alot of true cricket shot were able to be played with the ball holding up and at times exploding off the pitch.
PVSC won the toss and elected to bowl, early on we provide too much room for their openers to free their arms through the offside. Once this was corrected through the experience of Mark Pallini ( a great spell 3 for 30 - should have been a 5 for), we were back in the game. Barkley's batsmen did well, waiting for room and length while using the quick ground to full advantage.
I thought a good score to chase would be 150 and believed we were going to hold them to that until Benny Campbel entered. A great innings and one of the cleanest hitters in the comp.
Chasing about 200 is always a hugh challenage and you often need a little luck. We got our fair share. Dom again reliable, Pugger doing a job for the team (often overlooked) good to see reward for effort, a nice 40 that set up the chase. Again a little luck played a part, with the Barkley bowlers being able to observe the wicket during their batting innings, they bowled very good areas - they have a very good bowling attack in the making.
One person who made his own luck was one Brett Pallini. A great knock during the toughest part of play - ball getting older and softer on a slow dec. But handled the situation perfectly and brought the boys home for 6 deserved points.
Best thing about this weeks win was, we had different contributors. Always a good sign when the workload is being shared.
Looking forward to next weeks clash, only disappointment is D Jolly wont be there, any chance of him coming back for this week?

A big well done to barklys Captain who in the true spirit of cricket recalled a batter after being given out runout when he wasnot out that is a example of true sportsmanship.
