Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

Just take time out after each ball and remind yourself not to get worked up. Practice working yourself in before going for the big shots in the nets, I guess it would eventually become a habit.

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

You need to get a game plan sorted out in your mind and try to stick to it. Aggression is ok, as long as it is correctly channelled and used to enhance your game.

Many people recommend 'switching off' between balls in order save mental energy so this something that you could try. Try to learn to adjust to each game scenario as it occurs and if you find yourself getting hot under the collar, take a moment out to re-focus.

It may be that you are a naturally attacking player and if possible you don't want to mess with that too much but you can certainly learn how to control it.

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

Just remember its your job to see off the new ball and start ticking the runs over! its the bowlers job to get you out!!!!!! youve got all the time you need.....

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

I've always found myself to be in the same state as you. But I'll tell you how I improved. For a while, I just focused on my front foot shots. I wanted more and more of them to be as grounded as possible, and only hit in the air when very sure of it or its a very easy bowl. Target bowlers, sometimes it does happen that one bowler seems much easier to play than the other. So, in the tougher one, try and play only grounded shots, and defending your wicket. Don't just panic and stop playing any shots though - that would harm your confidence. Keep confidence and play.

After some time, you can start focusing the same way on your back foot shots. You can even dissect between your off side and leg side shots. After some time, your aggression will remain but it would be transformed into useful aggression and sensible aggression. ;)

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

Looks like there has been some really handy advice already in this thread.

I'd just like to add this harrowdrive link as I've found it really effective:

http://www.harrowdrive.com/how-to-be-relaxed-and-confident-at-the-crease/

It's all about creating an anchor which allows you to instantly achieve a state of relaxation and calm when at the crease. There's a related article in the ahrrowdrive psychology section about 'self talk', that's more about being positive and confident, but I'd say positive 'self talk' is also important if you're losing your cool.

Hope some of this helps :)

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

You could probably do with just switching off from the game situation and playing everyball as it comes. I used to have a bit of a problem wanting to hit every ball because i was worried how many i was on inbetween balls. At one point i decided to do my 9 times tables after every ball.

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

All you need to do is set yourself rules on how you bat. Like for first 10 balls or somethin only play if on stumps. Then next 5 to 10 only play back foot shots till confidence up then start playing front foot shots along ground.

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

Think of funny jokes when you are batting.
Maybe you need to talk with your coach about your temper problem. Sometimes talking about it might help you out big time. You could learn off him because if he's positive about everything, then you should try and copy off him.
Find somebody who you look up to. I know a lot of guys like to look up to Mike Hussey because he is so positive. Maybe that's what you could do.

took the words right out of my mouth, if aggression is natural and you open, thats good, only if you always play oalong the ground, openers that do this are absolute gold. you control all your agression along the ground and you will score heavily.

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

Calm yourself down before a match.

Have a bath, listen to music whatever relaxes you.

I have no problem with agression but perhaps it is good to see the first 5 or so overs out as you can then get your eye in and be able to play the more rash strokes easier.

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

All I would say is just enjoy your game. That's it. Sometimes even I used to become frustrated only to give away my wicket hitting a rash shot.
As grapedo said...have a bath, and listen to some calm music before coming out to bat.

Re: NEED HELP WITH TEMPER

Personally, if I'm batting high up or I need a big innings, I don't worry about runs for the first few overs, just ball on bat. If I really need a big innings or something then sometimes I count the amount of times I get bat on ball, instead of counting runs. Then when I have my eye in I begin to go on the attack (I'm an aggressive batsman) and I go for runs.

Yeah exactly.

And my captain wouldn't worry if i gout out playing an agresive shot as long as I saw out the first few overs.
