New bowling vid

After a good long net yesterday I was feeling strong and pacey, today I was a bit tired but still I felt good, I’ve got my accuracy back as well, hit the stumps 8 times in a row! which was better than my usual 3, I’m still working out the shoulder as it isn’t injured anymore but I need to get back the strength that I had before, please comment so I can work out the mistakes in my action, also I have just order Ian Pont’s book and hope to get back the pace i lost through all the injuries.

Re: New bowling vid

You look to have quite a loose action, which isn't bad. You just seem to slightly drop to one side (into the stumps) and probably accounts for the reason that you fired down leg once or twice. You've got a nice landing base, and your feet and legs aren't a problem it seems as your action allows pace. Overall i'd say straighten up slightly to get the ball away from dropping down leg and you'll be fine.

You're action, arms wise, reminds me of Tremletts action. I don't know what else I can advise, when i say about dropping to one side, you don't do it every ball but there is one or two!

Re: New bowling vid

yeah this was the third day of me playing cricket and i was reallly tired so that probally explains the dropping, but ill still have to get that checked out, thanks.

Re: New bowling vid

Your bowling has improved considerably storm, although I can see the fatigue. At this point, you are wasting your time... rest. When you bowl [or do anything] fatigued, your form goes. When this happens you can only do harm; technically as well as physically. Spend a day conditioning without bowling.

The one view I am really interested in is obscured by the stumps ;) When you have had a day of bowling rest, try to take another video and when you get to the front view, try to raise the camera so I can see your whole body.

Re: New bowling vid

yh ill get it done soon, probally today, as im going up da nets for a bit, i will get the rest in , ive cancelled all of my games till sunday for some rest time, thanks .

Re: New bowling vid

Speaking of rest time, how much bowling do you think you should do per week?? Just because my shoulder has been making some funny noises recently and my mum (a doctor) said it was probably the first signs of overuse.

Re: New bowling vid

It varies JB, depending on the condition of ALL the components necessary.

Your Mum is right [Mums are always right :D] Your shoulder noises are a sign of overuse but not the first ;)

In this instance, I suspect your rotator cuff muscles are not up to the amount of bowling; condition them more and you can bowl for longer and harder.

If your shoulder starts to 'click', get your Mum to check it out for a tear.

Re: New bowling vid

my shoulders been clicking for about a year now, but the doctors didnt know what was wrong.

Perhaps you should invest in a physio. Go private for a physio if you cannot get referred by the NHS.

Re: New bowling vid

Well storm, there's 'clicking'... and then there's 'clicking' :D

Do you suffer any discomfort and have you noticed any difference in the range of motion about that shoulder?

it looks ok to me but I think that you should "bend your back" some more

like put more effort at the crease

could you go into more depth on the bend back , i swear ive been told this before but dont quite understand how it works in the acttion, and what it does.

Re: New bowling vid

it doesn't mean to literally bend your back, but it is an expression that suggests that you should put more effort at the crease

I may be wrong but from looking it appears as though you arent putting in 100%

Are your rotator cuffs the ones kinda on the outside of the shoulder at the top?? Just because, after a long bowl last night at nets which maybe wasn't a great idea, my shoulder is now hurting there sort of like a pulled muscle feeling but not really, maybe more of an achey thing. I've pulled out of tonight's T20 to try and have it right for saturday.

Re: New bowling vid

Ahh! That's not such an easy question to answer.

The muscle on the top of your shoulder is superficial; medial deltoid.

However, if you are talking about the insertion at the top of the humerus, it could be the supraspinatus, which is a rotator cuff. It is the primary initiator of abduction up to about 30 degrees, when the deltoid takes over.

Sportspeople commonly make the mistake of thinking that you need to work the rotator cuff muscles to hypertrophy, **mainly because they listen to bodybuilders or weightlifters ;)** This can cause many injuries as, in sport, they must have great endurance.

Re: New bowling vid

Right ok, my mum said it was a rotator cuff after I'd posted that so I reckon she probly knows what's what better than I do.

What do you think I should do about it, just rest it??

Re: New bowling vid

Yes JB, your shoulder is telling you to ease off a little. If there is no discomfort you can continue activity but to a lesser degree.. don't stop mobilising the shoulder.

Work your rotator cuff muscles with low resistance to increase their endurance before you up any bowling or throwing activity again.

Re: New bowling vid

Right ok, last night and now this morning the shoulder is hurting when I lift it up (abduction?) but only if I use the muscles in my right arm. If I lift up and move my right arm with my left arm it's completely fine.

When you say don't stop mobilising it, I thought resting it meant not mobilising it so was that the wrong thing to do?

Thanks:)
