Re: New Zealand in Australia

Maybe we should play a batsman who scores so slowly for his state he could have been dropped for it.

Oh wait, we already did that.

Re: New Zealand in Australia

A couple of people have mentioned Hughes, and while I am a HUGE fan of him in First Class cricket, being a NSWman, he has been impressive without dominating in the 50 over form. There are far better ODI options than Hughes. Katich is one of them. Hodge is another.

With Ponting and Marsh out, I'd have:

Warner
Katich/Clarke
Hodge
Clarke/Katich
D. Hussey (prefer him at 5, not as good with the tail as Mike is)
M. Hussey
Haddin
Hopes
Johnson
Bracken
Tait

If the pitch is spin friendly, McGain/Hauritz for Tait/Johnson.

Re: New Zealand in Australia

With the side selected for Friday night I would pick

Warner, Hopes, Clarke, Dussey, Voges, Hussey, Haddin, White, Hilfenhaus, Tait, Bracken

With Hopes opening may as well add White to no8 for some extra batting depth, maybe bring in Ferguson for Hussey later on as he is probably due a rest

Re: New Zealand in Australia

I think Kilnger, Dighton, Carsledine and Hodge should have all been picked before Voges and Ferguson. This would be my side:
1. S. Marsh
2. M. Dighton
3. B. Hodge
4. M. Clarke (c)
5. M. Klinger
6. M. Hussey
7. L. Carseldine
8. J. Hopes
9. M. Johnson
10. N. Bracken
11. A. Bird
(ponting has been rested so I am sticking with that)

Re: New Zealand in Australia

BAGGING the selectors is Australia's leading national sport. Forget about flannelled fools and muddied oafs. Other countries can hurl wellington boots, eat pasties, fight bulls, roll dice, throw darts to their heart's content.

Admittedly, the members of the think tank have made themselves easy targets this season by choosing a Victorian batsman as their leading spinner, dropping a bloke after he took 12 wickets in the previous match, including a down-in-the-dumps pace bowler and recalling an all-rounder without a wicket or run to his name all summer. Not that the selectors can be blamed for everything - they were not accountable for the greatest debacle of the decade, namely the Nagpur Test match.

Accordingly our one-day squad for the next three matches is: Hughes, Katich, Clarke, Ferguson, Hussey, North (White), Henriques (Hopes), Haddin, Bracken, Hilfenhaus, Bollinger with Krejza and Johnson backing up. Admittedly it's an adventurous line-up but fortune never favoured the meek. Now record your side before the matches start. By a conservative reckoning most of us pick about 17 players and complain when five of them are left out.

Since the first Test starts in three weeks we'll ignore the claims of blokes searching for form or short of cricket. Our party is Katich, Hughes, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, North, Andrew McDonald, Haddin, Johnson, Hilfenhaus, Bollinger, McGain, Bracken, White. The back-up batsman is the tricky part. Ferguson looks like the man.

Hahahaahahahaha.

Please don't post this shit.

Who is going to keep in that side? If you're not playing a specialist keeper you're just asking for trouble.

Aaron Bird was reported for chucking about a week ago. I doubt we'll see much of him in the future. Oh, and he's not very good. Would be a worse selection than Voges.

I would have thought Marsh isn't playing because he's injured.

It's simple mate.

Post garbage like that and i'll shoot you down. You know enough about cricket to see the lineup you posted was pathetic. You didn't even include a wicketkeeper.

There's no point in encouraging people to post rubbish. Post quality, well thought out posts with reasoning behind your selections and then i'll encourage you. @|

Well it is my opinion so I will post what I like thanks very much.

I never jump on your back about starting up a whole apprecitation thread about a bangladeshi all rounder who averages 27 with the bat and 32 with the ball and talk him up like he is some prodigy when he is an average cricketer playing in a below average team.

Also I forgot about the wicket keeper slot but we are all human and if you think including the leading wikcet taker in the ford ranger cup team into the national side is rubbish then that says alot about the pathetic state of Australian domestic cricket then dosen't it.

Well, if that's your true opinion you're not as smart as a i thought.

Haha. Average cricketer.

233 runs @ 55 and 11 wickets @ 10 in the last month suggest he is an excellent cricketer.

Number one ranked all-rounder in the world in one dayers. Ranked higher than the likes of Kallis. But obviously he is average.

Anyway, that thread is just a bit of fun. Focusing on the positives on Bangladesh cricket instead of the numerous negatives that there are.

Also I forgot about the wicket keeper slot but we are all human and if you think including the leading wikcet taker in the ford ranger cup team into the national side is rubbish then that says alot about the pathetic state of Australian domestic cricket then dosen't it.

Pathetic state of Australian Domestic Cricket? It's the best domestic cricket competition in the world. Bird is a cucker. He bowls with a bent arm. That is illegal. He has now been called for chucking. The ball he bowls at around 140 km/h is a chuck and he has got alot of wickets with it. He's an average bowler who has had a fairly good season. Just because he's the leading wicket taker doesn't make him the best bowler.

You can't just pick a side on stats. @|

Re: New Zealand in Australia

Voges is 12th man, when will they learn White is a average cricketer that just slogs with the bat and can't bowl?

*note* player will win MOM now.

Re: New Zealand in Australia

Game Two is underway. Australia have made several changes to their line-up, Ponting is being rested for this game and also game three so South Australian Callum Ferguson will make his debut and Michael Clarke will captain in his absence. Shaun Marsh is injured so Cameron White is in to prop up the middle order with Brad Haddin a chance to bat at number three. Ben Hilfenhaus comes into the side to replace Shaun Tait.

New Zealand go into this match unchanged and also won the toss, electing to bowl first.

Australia XI: David Warner, *Michael Clarke, +Brad Haddin, Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Callum Ferguson, Cameron White, James Hopes, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Bracken, Ben Hilfenhaus

New Zealand XI: +Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, Peter Fulton, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Neil Broom, Kyle Mills, *Daniel Vettori, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, Iain O'Brien

Kyle Mills' first over to David Warner was a maiden, 0/0 from one over.
