Oz/Kiwi Sport

Thanks for the video Craig :thumbsu:... can see you have a lot of very talented batsmen & bowlers coming through your system...I'll make a note of the young fellas you have mentioned that may go on & play for Aussie.

Great idea mate to use this thread for the upcoming 20/20's in NZ... yeah, bowlers like Sangha will need to bowl most of their deliveries pretty flat, with only 20 overs to face batsmen are basically looking attack every ball.
Welcome Pete. Watch it when you get time. A good way to kill an hour or two on an indoors day. Three of those names are from my home town forced out of the Blues system by crap selectors. They are Tim Ward, Ian Carlisle and Lawrence Neil-Smith.
Mate I am watching a red ball match between Tassie and SAussie at the moment in prep for the resumption of our Shield season in two weeks. Pity CA did not play more of these when its bloody Big Bash was on. If for nothing else than to guage red ball form for national selection.

I'll have a watch Craig 👍 as you say it's good to have a look at on a wet day - that's exciting mate that 3 of those blokes come from your home town... yeah, it's a pain with all this white ball stuff on here, we don't play our last 4 rounds of red ball cricket until March, which is ridiculous.

Thanks for clip Pete. Controlled aggression is an apt description of young Allen mate. Very impressive hitting. Any chance he will be picked for BC T20 side.
Would really like to see him play for us in the 20/20's against your blokes Craig... but our coach is pretty conservative, so will probably stay with the same squad.

Your boy Young did not make it Pete. Know nothing of Bennett or Chapman. That bad smell Santner just wont go away mate. As for us. I like that we have chosen specialist white ball bowlers.. Daniel Sams, Kane Richardson and Andrew Tye. The latter two have lost out so many times in the past to our Test attack. Looking forward to seeing the talented Jhye Richardson going thru his paces. Reminds me so much of your Trent Boult mate.

Thanks for posting the squads Craig :thumbsu:

The Wellington opener wasn't Young, it's Finn Allen mate, really disappointed he missed out, going into the 20/20 final he'd almost scored 500 runs & averaged 62, apparently Allen is on standby, hope he gets a crack.
Bennett is a pace bowler for Wellington, he's pretty quick & has a strange windmill action, bowls too many loose balls though - Chapman is a batman & plays for Auckland, tends to throw his wicket away too easily, I wouldn't have selected Bennett or Chapman in the squad... agree mate it's just crazy that they continue to pick Santner, he tends to lack coordination in the field too, always looks so gawky running around.
Will keep an eye on Jhye Richardson mate, sounds like the bloke can swing the ball really well.

Pete not as prodigiously as Trent.. more subtly. Sufficiently to commit the batsman to the shot. He may well be below his best as he has not long been back from a long term shoulder injury. I hope to hell he dont become injury prone..

Thanks for posting the squads Craig
No worries mate. I'd certainly liked to have seen a few more next genners in your squad.

So Young is not a Wellington native? I remember you telling me about Finn Allen. The fact he is on standby means he is next cab on the rank.

We have picked a mixture of past and the new. The past you know of. The new are an exciting bunch in this format. Jhye Richardson and Tanveer Sangha you know of already..Josh Philippe, Riley Meredith, Ben Mc Dermott, Ashton Turner, Daniel Sams not so. The latter two have been around in state cricket for some time while Meredith a Tasmanian can crank it up to say Milne pace. Personally if they wanted an express man I'd have chosen Wes Agar.. Ashton's brother.The excitement comes from J Richardson, Sangha, Ben Mac and Philippe. He was named BBL Best Player while B Mac is similar to your own B Mac.. likes hitting the leather off the ball.

Wish we had a few more promising players in our 20/20 squad as well Craig - sounds like you have a lot of really promising players in your squad... reckon the 20 over stuff at international level is ideal to give the younger fellas a crack, it at least builds up their confidence at that level, giving them a stepping stone towards ODI's, then go on & play test cricket if they are good enough.

Young comes from Taranaki in the North Island & plays for C.D. {Central Districts}... they reckon Guppy might miss the 1st ODI through injury, so would be great to see Allen get a start in the 1st one.

Just heard that Ashton Agar has been named ICC Top 20/20 bowler.

First match kicks off tomorrow. What time and where Pete?

That's great news about your spinner Agar Craig :thumbsu:

Here's the info about the game mate...

1st 20/20
NZ v AUSSIE {Hagley Oval, ChCh}
Mon 22nd Feb - 7pm {NZ Time}

Thanks Pete. 7pm is under flood lites in NZ but it is still twilite here in Sydney town mate. Now I must remember the time difference and not think it is 7pm here.

Just heard your Black Caps will be playing a two Tester against the Poms prior to the WTC final. Mate that is a terrific prep for your blokes.. tho Williamson, Boult or Jamieson may miss out to IPL.

Precisely mate, those two tests are a really good buildup to the final - Poms could be missing some players from that series too... peeves me off that this manufactured IPL crap is having priority over tests matches.

Hagley Oval only had floodlights installed about a year ago... if it's clear blue sky in Christchurch won't start to get dark until well after 8pm.
Yeah, game should start about 5pm Sydney time mate.

You here Pete. Your blokes wearing the retro beige. Looks good with the black dacks.

Philippe making his international debut for us. You have any debutants?.

Good start by the Black Roos.
