Re: Pakistan in Australia

The commentators are touting it as a brilliant move right now, but if Pakistan are 0-150 at stumps, which is not out of the question on such a lifeless pitch, then it will quickly become a huge captaincy blunder.

I was pleased to see it. There's nothing worse than watching a team bat for 2 days and knock up 600, then watching the other side plod along for 3 days trying to snatch a draw.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

well in my opinion i don't think a draw is an option the way bollinger is bowling aswell as siddle, we might wrap them up by tea tomorrow... then we'll have another go at a century

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Why put the muppet PM in the com box? I think I'll put the tv on mute for the next 15 minutes.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Was the same indignation shown when the rodent went into the commentary box?
Time for the you-tube clip of little Johnny trying to bowl methinks.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Pakistan 1/53, Johnson claimed Imran Farhat LBW for 9. Pakistan have been pretty slow so far, they've faced 29 overs for 3 so they are quite content to be watchful at this point. Australia have bowled well though, there haven't been too many runs on offer.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Hauritz gets his first. Iqbal tries to cut the ball fine but gets a top edge, straight to Michael Clarke who takes a great catch at slip, hands out to his right.

2/69. Salman on 33, Yousuf seven not out who got off the mark hitting Hauritz for six three balls after the wicket fell.

Johnny actually likes cricket and sports, Krudd doesnt yet still tries to pretend he does by going to all the major events, actually it seems he has done no governing at all, too busy flying around the world, but thats for another forum

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Watson strikes. Ball pitched on leg and hit Butt in line with the stumps, Rudi gives him the finger of death but Butt asks for a referral. Replays show the ball was hitting the stumps and Rudi's decision is upheld.

3/85, Yousuf on 10 and it's Umar Akmal to the crease, the younger brother of Kamran Akmal.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Australia in a very strong position.

Looks like it's going to be down to Tests 2 and 3 again to hopefully provide some close and competitive cricket.

Well done to Hauritz, for a little while I thought he was going to be the only batsman, ironically, to bring the big one up.

As I said though, figuratively there is nothing wrong with 90s, 80s and 70s if everyone is getting them consistently. Actually is showing there is teamwork amongst the batting line up.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

I see a large winning margin here. They will go back out and get a few quick runs so should see some sort of entertainment there. See them setting a target of 550+ by lunch day 4.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Ponting hardly ever enforces, he got burnt in India early on in his career and has been shy of the follow-on ever since.

Personally I think it should always be enforced unless there's exceptional circumstances, like the pitch is rapidly deteriorating or your bowlers have been overly tired for some reason (conditions, length of innings, etc). It would be nice to see an enforcement here since the Aussies will need plenty of time to take the wickets, but I seriously doubt it will happen.

I was pleasantly surprised by the declaration though, gutsy and positive move by Ponting which is quite refreshing. Even if it had come back to bite him I wouldn't have criticised because it was a move that showed aggression - something usually sorely lacking in his tactics.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Pakistan were bowled out for 258, just avoiding the follow-on score. Umar Akmal scored 51 and Misbah-ul-Haq made 65 not out, batting well with the tail so Ponting didn't have a choice of whether to send Pakistan in again.

Bollinger bowled pretty well, taking three wickets in total, all from today's play. Johnson also got three, Siddle picked up two with Hauritz and Watson taking one each

In reply, Australia are 1/18, leading by 214 runs. Katich edged behind for 2 off Mohammad Asif.

Re: Pakistan in Australia

Really, I would have credited Ponting with more nous than to fall into that trap. Maybe this elbow injury really does have him spooked.

Getting out to mistimed pulls really does seem to be a rapidly-increasing problem for him. Maybe it's time he recognises his ageing reflexes and employs the shot a little more selectively.
