Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

The first of three ODI's gets underway in less than five minutes with Pakistan playing West Indies in a three-game series. Pakistan haven't played one-day cricket for four months and have undergone a series of changes which includes a new coach, a few fresh faces and also the banning of Mohammad Yousuf from the national side due to his recent signing with the ICL.

West Indies have been in some good form, winning the Stanford game as well as easily accounting for Bermuda and Canada in the tri-series. But, their form before then was poor with South Africa and Australia handing them 5-0 losses.

Should be a good series, here's the squads.

Pakistan XIV: *Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, Abdur Rauf, Fawad Alam, Iftikhar Anjum, +Kamran Akmal, Khurram Manzoor, Saeed Ajmal, Salman Butt, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul, Younis Khan

West Indies XV: *Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lionel Baker, +Carlton Baugh, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Shawn Findlay, Leon Johnson, Xavier Marshall, Nikita Miller, David Mohammed, Brendon Nash, Daren Powell, Kemar Roach, Jerome Taylor

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

And we're underway. Chris Gayle won the toss and decided to bat on what looks to be a cracking pitch.

The teams,

Pakistan XI: Salman Butt, Khurram Manzoor, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-haq, *Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, +Kamran Akmal, Fawad Alam, Sohail Tanvir, Abdur Rauf, Umar Gul

West Indies XI: *Chris Gayle, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Xavier Marshall, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brendon Nash, +Carlton Baugh, Jerome Taylor, Nikita Miller, Darren Powell, Lionel Baker

Interesting to see former Australian first-class player Brendon Nash playing for the Windies. Nash was in-and-out of the Queensland side for the best part of five years before moving to Jamaica to try his luck there. 12 months later he was in the tri-series squad in Canada and then he was in the test squad to play against New Zealand. Nash is playing his 4th ODI game today.

Play's been going for about five minutes, the Windies are 0/4 in the second over.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Didn't take long for Gayle to start swinging. The Windies has crawled to 0/10 in the 5th before Gayle opened the shoulders in the next over hitting Abdur Rauf for four and then six next ball. Rauf's next over was even more expensive with Gayle loving Rauf's wayward line, hitting him for 4 fours in the one over!

They've raced to 0/46 from nine overs, Gayle has 37 from only 27 balls faced. Last four overs have cost 35 runs.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Gayle going berserk as usual.

West Indies 0/46 off 9 overs.
Gayle 37* off 27 (7 4's and a 6)
Chattergoon 5* off 28

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Chris Gayle is awesome in full flight.

Consecutive 6's and is 49 off 33

0/59

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

I wonder if Khan will make any runs for Pakistan because he's definitely struggling for South Australia.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

West Indies off to a flier 0/93 off 15 overs.
Gayle 58* off 45
Chattergoon 29* off 47

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Chattergoon was the first to go for 33 with the score on 125. Gayle was the second wicket, caught by Afridi off the bowling of Umar Gul for a very well made 113. Ramnaresh Sarwan made 55 and Xavier Marshall was bowled for 22 a short time ago.

At the moment, West Indies are 4/256 after 45 overs. Chanderpaul on 24, Baugh on 2.

It's the spinners who have slowed down the West Indies batters Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi went for 43 and 45 respectively from their ten overs with both bowlers getting wickets. The pace bowlers, with the exception of Sohail Tanvir have been very expensive.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Umar Gul gets his third wicket. Baugh tried to turn towards square leg but got a leading edge and Malik took an easy catch on the edge of the circle at mid-wicket.

5/276 after 46.4 overs. Chanderpaul on 32. Brendon Nash in the new batsman.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Tanvir gets his first wicket of the game with a slower ball. Full and outside off, Chanderpaul fails to pick it and it gives Salman Butt an easy catch near mid-off.

5/285, Chanderpaul gone for 36.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Jerome Taylor tries to smash one over midwicket but is clean ripped. 7/294.

Edit: Tanvir on a hat-trick!! He has three now!! Daren Powell falls in much the same way, tries to drive on the off-side but Tanvir's ball is full and takes out middle stump again! 8/294. Tanvir takes a ride to hat-trick city.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Now Nash is run out on the final delivery. Miller misses completely and the batsman try to scamper a bye but Kamran Akmal is onto them and throws the stumps down with Nash short of his ground.

So the Windies finish on 8/294, what a last over that was. Three wickets from it, two of them to Tanvir. He really is become a genuinely good one-day bowler is Sohail Tanvir, he finishes with 3/42 from his ten which included a maiden. West Indies will be a little disappointed with that, Gayle had them well on the way for 300+ but Pakistan struck late and with regularity to restrict the Windies' score.

Pakistan will need to be good when they bat, 295 required from their 50 overs. The players now head inside for dinner.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Butt and Manzoor got the innings off to a good start before but was dismissed by Baker for 24 off 53 balls when the score was 64. The Khan came in and put on another good partnership with Manzoor before Taylor got Manzoor on 69. Ul-Haq came in and went cheaply and then Khan fell for 56 with the score on 4/206 off 39.5 overs. The game was looking well and truly beyond Pakistan expecially when Afridi was dismissed for 4. Malik continued to bat well and was eventually out for 66 off only 50 balls. At this stage Pakistan needed 34 off 17 balls. Akmal then came in and hit a 6 to get it down to 23 needed off 12. Gayle's penultimate over was fantastic and the game was looking over with Pakistan requiring 17 off the last over. Akmal then hit consecutive sixes off the second and third balls and then a three to give Pakistan a win with 1 ball and wickets remaining.

Akmal finished with 24 off 9 and Alam was the other not out batsman on 26 off 25.

So Pakistan won a thriller, the second game of the three game series begins on Friday.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

I just had a look at Gayle's innings, it was sensational. Fantastic to watch.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Second match in progress. Pakistan batted first and scored 232 all out from 49 overs. Misbah-ul-Haq top scored with 52, Kamran Akmal made 45 and Younis Khan 34.

Daren Powell and Jerome Taylor both took three wickets for the Windies but Powell proved to be expensive, going for more than six an over.

In reply, West Indies are 2/37 in the 14th over. Slow going but they've done alright to get themselves out of a poor start. Gayle and Chattergoon both went for ducks but Ramnaresh Sarwan has steadied them a little since then with a couple of boundaries in his 20 to date.

Gamk evenly poised at the moment.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

West Indies were bowled out for 208 from 48.5 overs. Sarwan was out for 45 but Shivnarine Chanderpaul fought on scoring 107 not out in the end but it wasn't enough to lift his team. After Sarwan's 45, Extras was the next best scorer with 22.

Umar Gul took three wickets, Sohail Tanvir remained with two and Younis Khan effected two run-outs with the help of Kamran Akmal.

Sohail Tanvir was Man of the Match although Chanderpaul was probably more deserving.

The win sees Pakistan wrap up the series, the final game is on Sunday.

Re: Pakistan vs West Indies ODI Series at Abu Dhabi

Very entertaining matches so far with climatic finishes, I just hope Pakistan can end this series 3-0 rather than 2-1, One thing Pakistan needs to improve on is their fielding there were quite a few dropped chances in the 2nd ODI, Other than that they were exceptional, Does anyone know about the offspinner Saeed Ajmal, i heard he can bowl doosra's, just how good is he?
