Premier Cricket 2011/12

Fitzroy vs Casey game stopped on the weekend about 10 overs in by umpires to allow a line search of the square to find all the pegs that hadn't been picked up prior to start of play. Don't think I've ever seen anything like it

A belated congratulations to Richmond CC.

In offseason news... a coup for Essendon CC getting Brendan Joyce as coach. Thought I read here/heard around the traps that he was being groomed to take over from DiVenuto at Carlton.

Haven't heard of much talk regarding moves, be interesting to see who Dandenong chase to fill in the role of Dempsey. If they manage a big scalp, they might set the merry-go-round into action.

After reaching the finals in season 2011/12, The Burwood Cricket Club, affiliated with the Eastern Cricket Association, and currently playing in A grade turf competition, is seeking applicants for the position of Senior Professional Player for season 2012/13.
The role may make itself available to involvement in the leadership group within the club’s 1st XI.
With an established off field support structure and solid junior program we now seek the experience and skills of a quality top order batsman to help take the club one step further.
The ideal candidate will possess:
    1. The willingness to embrace and develop the club’s on and off field culture
    2. Experience and accomplishments at a comparable standard of cricket
    3. A passion to be part of a strong team and winning culture
    4. A commitment to pre season, and strong work ethic during the season
    5. A temperament to bat long periods and work with our developing batsmen
Remuneration and length of contract will be negotiated based on the level of experience and playing record of each applicant.
Applications should be emailed to the Director of Cricket at dmp@hagerbr.com.au
All applications are strictly confidential and close on June 15th 2012.

Believe that he went onto the committee at Carlton after retiring, so was still involved at some level. Great pick-up for them, strengthens their batting and covers well for the loss of Manser, who coincidentally was basically replacing Welsford.

Doran into Dandenong is an interesting one. They are already overflowing with bowling options, and Dempsey will leave a pretty large hole. Think Doran holds a stick alright though.

Blues set for a flag. A rebuild has happened and not gone down. There is no monkey there. Just a bunch of young players learning the game - must have at least 6-7 players under 23, most of those less than 20. Watch out this team is set to win 3-4 flags in next few seasons for sure.

No monkey? You sacked a coach who reached finals over the last 5 years? Have finished top 4 each and every year and cant get the job done in finals.
The last two seasons you've lost 6 matches total, 2 of which are finals. Including giving up 300 against Dandenong, which forced the club to act. I'd say the monkey is a gorilla.

if it were the same team - definitely a gorilla - but the team has changed. They have added young players. Ringwood vs Carlton GF...both lost 6 players since. Carlton remains in contention Ringwood 15th. The Crystalball says the time is now right. Enough games in the young players, Welsford back..not looking back. The coach cannot control match day unless he is playing. Welsford to influence on the field. No state squad players - just a bunch of kids. Talented & ready. Coach unlucky but thats life
