C'mon dop. There are probably 3 countries us Assies get interested in. SA, India and the Poms. In the last 18 months he has struggled against all of them. His 121 in the last dig was great but the damage was done. He was a major contributor in the Ashes downfall. Even his 60 odd in the 2nd dig of the 3rd test was made on a runway. Husseys average over that time is just not up to par. This was the extra tour he was granted and was duly found wanting. Dont get me wrong, he has been a fine ambassador for our country, but IMO his time has come. I wont fall for his last ditched effort again and neither should you.

i know its hard for me to change stripes now as ive been guilty of trying to organise lynch mobs to hunt him down for a long time now, i just think we've put a lot of effort into the bloke and even his harshest critic would admit he's a great player when in form, i know the 100 he made meant nothing but i really cant see the harm in giving him another couple of tests, theres really no downside as we should win our home series comfortably and the upside is if he finds his feet we'll have one of the best no 4s going around. it is hard to argue a case for him though.

he wasnt apart of the downfall of the aussies. there are couple english batsman with a worse ashes series batting stats then him and yet the english won. two fifties and a hundred. not bad, but not as good as needed.

i fear the same thing is about to happen to him as did in SA in the last tour. at the end of the series he noticeably came into form with good shots from nothing and got to the third and final test and scored a great 70. then the break between SA and england took its toll and he lost his form in the meantime. the same appears to be happening here, looked better and better all series until a blistering 121. now there is a few months until his next test so hopefully he can stay in touch there.

and i just want to say, huss didnt run ponting out. ponting ran himself out. hussey made his ground easily at the danger end, and ponting was barely out. but if ponting didnt ball watch for a couple of seconds and stood on the spot then he would have made it safe easily. hussey is possibly the best runner in australian, if not world, cricket ever.

it was husseys call, ponting did hesitate for a stride or 2 but he was cutting it fine, it was husseys fault in my book, it was just one of those things that happen, unfortunate and unlucky.

it is a perfect time to look elsewhere, but who would know what the selectors think.

I dont think Merv Hughes thinks about too much!
He and Homer Simpson are pretty much alike.
Come too think of it.......... So am I for that matter!

its mervs job to supply the drinks, boony used to do it but then he quit, this left the selectors with a huge dilemma, who can we recruit to be in charge of the beer, who better then merv.

White ball.
Not much if any swing.
Bowlers cant bowl consistantly to an attacking field.
ODI 's dont hold much care factcor.

IMO of course.

thats what i was saying ten years ago, but i believe now that it is getting much harder to bat in ODIs.

as the times have changed since its invention and introduction bowling has changed with it and we see many ODI specialist bowlers. back when it all first started ODI is like T20 is now. T20s we all agree are batting dominant, even on a bad pitch. in 20 years time i think T20s will be about even and we will start seeing scores of 8 an over instead of 10.

ODI batting is getting harder as the bowling is adapting. the bowling attacks these days are different quite a bit from the test attacks as they are two completely different things and there arent many bowlers that can do both to an exceptional standard anymore.

Overs 15 to 40 are basically rubbish and could be played with a bowling machine. Botha even bowls well around this time because batsmen are more or less keeping wickets in tact before the onslaught of the last powerplay.
Hauritz is a far better test bowler than Botha but would not get near him in the limited over game. Why? Flat darts and batsmen like Hussey trying to survive.

International Cricket Council - Match Zone - Team Ranking
Look at this you self-righteous pain in every Australian's ass. Even though Australia are ranked 4th, England are still ranked 5th. EAT IT!!!

england are the best side in the world when playing the ashes in england. the only side that can beat them then is australia. and that didnt happen this time around. the ashes bring out an unrivaled fighting spirit.

Re: Should Mike Hussey retire?

Hi,
i just read your comment and i suggest you that mike hussy is key player of Australian cricket team and a good middle order batsman so ri8 nw its not a ri8 time for him to take retirement....

Of course Australia is the only team that can beat England in the Ashes in England.

i meant that for example if south africa were to play in the ashes series against england they would have no chance. australia and england become two completely different teams when it comes to the ashes and they match each other skill wise.

But... if South Africa played England in the Ashes it wouldn't be the Ashes. It would just be a South African tour of England. Which happened last August. And South Africa won.

i know!

it makes sense in my mind. if south africa, for example, were to play against an ashes strong england then they would lose. australia and england are the only two countries of enough cricketing talent to compete in something like the ashes with as much history as it has.
