South Africa in West Indies

The Series starts within days after the conclusion on the World T2O which was held in the Caribbean. South Africa is trying to rebound from a disastrous tournament and should be expected to be victorious in the Caribbean. The West Indies seek to continue their re-emergence under Otis Gibson. Consistency seems to be lacking for both sides currently which could mean that the series could be close or become one sided depending on the respective performances.

The South African side will be featuring some new faces in Alviro Pietersen, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and David Miller. Miller was given his shot after Wayne Parnell did not show enough improvement with his groin injury to warrant selection. Miller is a left handed batsmen, in his early twenties, who scored heavily for the South African A side in Bangladesh.

The tour consists out of 2 T20, 5 ODI's and 3 Test Matches. All times are local time.

Re: South Africa in West Indies

South Africa won but not very convincingly. They batted first and scrambled to 7/136, Jacques Kallis scored 53 and Graeme Smith 37 but only AB de Villiers could make a score above double figures with 11.

Kieron Pollard and Kemar Roach lead the bowling for the West Indies with two wickets each.

In reply, West Indies had a lot of starts but couldn't get a partnership going for long enough to make a reasonable charge at the total. Kieron Pollard fi9nally delivered with the bat somewhat, making 27 off 17 before being bowled by Ryan McLaren.

From there, South Africa restricted the Windies to 123 all out but kept them in the contest till the very end with some wayward bowling. The 19th over bowled by Dale Steyn was awful and had the top order of the Windies been at the crease they might have pulled off a win. Ryan McLaren starred for South Africa with the ball, snaring 5/19 and MOTM honours. Johan Botha chipped in with two wickets of his own.

Game Two is later today.

That word "overkill" springs to mind again with the two T20s.

Yep, especially since we just finished a major Twenty20 tournament less than a week ago. The ICC will never learn it seems, how long before people find Twenty20 boring because of the overkill?
