South Division 2012/13

Matt Daykin's last two matches against Chelt....any predictions on what he will make this week (only a one-sayer though!)

South Division 11 20,27 Feb 2010 1:00 PM Cheltenham 1 caught 163
South Division 9 28 Jan 4 Feb 2012 1:00 PM Cheltenham 1 caught 173
2 no 34

Poor chelt (not really couldn't happen to a better bunch of blokes) they also have a problem getting Troy lamb out for under 100, I think he's made 100+ the last 3 times they've played

Forecast looking a little damp for Sat, but looking great for Sundays Southern Ashes clash! Pommy squad has some high quality players. Should be a high quality match!!!

Great day at the Southern Ashes today! Cracking standard of cricket and well done to all of the guys that played...nice to keep the Poms quiet for a while!!! Well done to everyone involved!!!

I would have loved to have been there, but my wife had other ideas... Great to hear that the day went well. By your comments, did the Aussies win?

Man Of Match - Poms, Will Jenkins (BDCC) - Aussies, Shane Campbell (Dingley)
Each received a $50 gift card for Saxon's Sports.

Shane Campbell had a good weekend - 65 on Saturday and 77 on the Sunday for once out. It looks like it was a great game, with the Aussies getting up with a couple of overs to spare. Let's hope this game can be repeated next year...

Planning is already underway for next year after very positive feedback!!!
A few modifications have been suggested including a slightly later starting time.....
and some half time events...South Ashes Gift!, Bat tossing competition, etc, etc
If anyone has any feedback or ideas for inclusion please post them here!!!

Any details on the wicket served up at Chelsea? Parkdale all out 66! Then Chelsea 7 wickets down in the same day.Hmmmmm

Track played well, Chelsea bowled well, appealed well and took their chances. Sub-par batting by the Dales and didn't get the chance to rebuild after three early wickets. Match still on given things go well early next week.

Ok so what are peoples thoughts just one game out from finals time? Surely Port start favourites having only lost their first game of the season on a green top? Will they handle the pressure when it matters?

Brighton are still going well and Chelsea are flying at the right end of the season. A few posters on here were right behind Parkdale not long ago but there batting must be a huge worry. They have had some horrible performances after xmas.

Parkdale have been exposed for their frailties and Port should have no problems with them. Port easily. Chelsea are a joke ( bringing back that madman Chapple is proof) having scored over 200 once this season. Brightons quicks will deny them 200 again. Chelt v Murrumbeena is a little harder but the batting depth of Murrumbeena should see them stay top 4. Top 4 to stay as is. Port and Brighton to fight out for flag

Any thoughts on the semi finals! It seems like Chelsea deliberately declared to ensure an outright to make sure they played Port Melbourne! Also managed to get down to Port to see them destroy Doutta stars to win the T20 comp. They were impressive all-round
Interesting game Murrumbeena vs Brighton... If Troy Lamb gets going it could be difficult for Brighton to chase considering batting is not their strength
Any thoughts?

Brighton v Murrumbeena – should be a cracker at the home of cricket. Brighton dominant all year, if both Poms are still here, will be hard to beat. How good a pickup is Bacon? Their batting is still very strong – R.Stewart, Lasky x 2 and the Sri Lankan can all score heavily. However finals are a strange beast and can do funny things to people’s games. Murrumbeena’s trifecta – Lamb, Hardham and Pearson, must fire and if they bat first and score enough, I’m tipping an upset with a bit of magic from Troy Ryan on the Sunday to seal the deal.

Port vs. Chelsea – surely history won’t repeat? In 2008 the biggest choke in the history of cricket saw Chelsea knock off Port Melbourne in the GF. Surely the Port boys involved that day (Daykin and Khawaja particuarly) must have that on their minds and I’m sure the coach will be drumming it in to them that they need redemption. Chelsea have been unbelieveable (McDonald is a gun) but at the end of the day do they actually want to win & go up to Senior Division? Would the VT want Chelsea playing their 2s on synthetic with a bye in Senior Seconds? Port comfortably.

got to think that Port and Brighton have their noses in front, runs on the board! Good effort by Khawaja to ton up and hold things together for Port. Doubt that Chelseas fragile batting can get those runs. Brightons middle order rescued an ordinary start. Had a chance to look at the deck down there, played well but will deteriorate quickly in the heat, it will be a struggle for Murrumbeena to get the runs against the 4 seamers that Brighton have.

I reckon that given your average club cricketer is not trained or experienced to spend all day out in the field on a hot day, and then front up again the next day to bat, Port and Brighton are almost certainties to meet in the GF. It would have been interesting had the two lower clubs won the toss and batted first - to my mind that's the only way they were likely to cause an upset.

Can't see Chelsea getting 240-odd against Port's stifling attack and field placings at North Port. Murrumbeena might manage it at Dendy Psrk, but need to survive Bacon and Gara (particularly Bacon) and probably need Lamb to get a big ton.
