That's IF we get going. Rumour has it that the SECA MAY cancel tomorrow's play due to the heat & ALL grades play a 1-dayer next week. Seems a reasonable decision to me.....

Have heard this also, that would be typical SECA, why have rules in place then make it up as you go along. Not saying it wouldn't be the right decision to call the games, but they have tinkered with this rule a couple of times and then not use it.[/quote]
Senior SECA called off tomorrow and Juniors are still on.

Why have a 'policy' and not use it?

Are the 'rules' being made up as we go, or do the 'rules' actually stand for something?

What is going on?
Why are we here?

Good decision by the Executive. Too many variation between venues (some have showers, running water, pavilions) whilst others have none, Providing a safe environment for both players and umpires is today's priorities - 40 degrees is unacceptable in any workplace environment. Plus there are players who may have unknown medical problems, which may lead to long term complications, or even a fatality.

The big day is here. Amazing to think that these sides have won the last 12 flags (13 after this weekend) between them yet this will only be the 2nd time they've met in a Grand Final in that period. East Sandy won that clash against all odds two years ago.
Externally, the Units have an aura of professionalism that is like no other. They also seem to have become more clinical as the group has evolved. However, East Sandy have been here plenty of times, know what it takes and go in with little expectation from others of winning this match.
Lalor's side have gone past the status of a team of champions picking up silverware at will since he's been at the helm. The one chink in their armour has been Devereaux who has twice batted his side into winning positions when it counts (albeit in different formats) and if he can kick on from last week then Uniting will be very nervous about their back to back prospects. Duddy has found some form and every other bat in the top and middle order has made a big score this season.
Logic says Uniting are the comfortable favourites going in to this, but there will be no amount of comfort in the Uniting dressing room until they claim the flag. Unfortunately for them, I think the batting for the Gold Caps will click on the big stage and inflict their 2nd loss on Uniting for the season and the 2nd consecutive loss in a Grand Final between the two.

Woolnough Shield will be an equally thrilling contest. Both sides winning one a piece to date. Uniting pulled off one for the ages to recover from 4/1 to post a highly respectable 9/170+. The following week West couldn't get going and fell well short of their target. After a slump mid-season Casey & Holmes have led the batting back to making them the force West can be. The bowling attack is too strong with Brown back in and they won't let an opportunity like the early season match slip again. Much will depend on how Manakis & Cleary bat as I suspect Turner might've done enough to earn a recall. Just the same Casey & Holmes need to score well to ensure West can get into a winning position. My money is with Fidler to bust out with a big score and lead West to victory.

Good luck to all sides competing. Let's hope the weather doesn't impose.

Not much posted here these days but this weekends Longy GF is worthy of a mention. Extraodinary game between 2 fantastic teams and I felt privileged to witness it. Well done BUCC. Have achieved everything there is to achieve in recent seasons except knocking of East Sandy in a 1st grade granny. Can now tick that off the list.

The last 13 Longmuir flags have been won by these 2 great clubs - ESBC 9 & BUCC 4. For what I saw today I can’t see that sequence being broken in a hurry.

While my late father is not with us anymore ( hence the lack of posts by both him and his long line of followers and detractors ) he did leave instructions to jump on and leave a post should the thimbles roll over and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.Surely like Dad the juggies are now dead and buried and the Dud couldn't get them over the line shanking in the last over!!!!!!.Unlike 2 years ago the texts to Bentleigh Uniting players surely fell silent last night.Congratulations to the Billionaires, and thimbles anytime before the start of next season could you put in your batting card into my cricket.Dad says the scores reach the Pearly Gates far quicker than they do to any of the Melbourne papers.Dad also said to acknowledge the continued good work and posts of his good friend Uncle Mick who has single handly kept the Big Cricket forum motoring on while the rest of you jumped ship to that yuppy facebook rubbish.

What a great game of cricket and credit to both sides. The monkey is finally off Uniting's back by beating East Sandy in the Big One. Massive pressure on both sides as runs hard to score, despite Lalor's brilliant innings with help from young Hard did not think Uniting had enough runs and was going well to script till the final few overs then...... never thought I would say it but anyway you look at it in the last few overs East Sandy Choked in a final. Amazing but it finally happened.
Well deserved and popular win to Uniting.

Before I disappear I must say I like Straight bat's work and surely Missen, and all you other mis guided cricket lovers can do like myself shed the thimble and Juggies tag as Straight bat has introduced us to the ultimate moniker they will have to live with THE CHOKERS as nothing they have done previously will allow them to escape the lack of air in the cricketing lungs!!!!!!! and the ultimate capitulation at the hands of the Mighty Billionaires.Maybe it is time to bring the Bingo back to pay some players as their all ordinarys index has surely dropped below par.
