Having a great junior program does not necessarily help a club to get success. Kids generally go off to premier cricket pretty early if they are any good before they they actually make much of an on field contribution. If you have a large junior club the lower grade teams get full off kids playing and you lose good senior blokes as they are no longer with mates the same age and really are doing a babysitting/mentoring role which not all want to do. Social functions become really poor too. The key is trying to get them back after premier cricket which is not always easy to do as they are in a position to chase money....and lets face it sometimes life gets in the way for some. Having a strong junior club does help financially though.
I am involved at a club that has 25 junior teams...we built from 5 teams a decade ago. We currently have over 20 ex juniors at premier cricket. We have about 3 players come back so far.
