I was involved in the preparation of the pitch for the 3rds one-day Grand Final at the Yarraville Oval. Thankfully, the forecast rain in the days leading up did not eventuate. The fact it ended up OK doesn't mean it was good fixturing. Neither the Yarraville players, nor the committee members I spoke to were happy about it. One of the Yarraville players, now in his 40's and having played with the club since the U14's, was playing in his first Grand Final. I would have felt deeply sorry for him had play not been possible. A Grand Final is a boutique game and you may only ever get one chance to play in one, if at all!

There is no point in posting a comment as above unless you are prepared to state what you consider is the correct version of events. My source was a close friend of Rex Bennett and a person of utmost integrity. You claim I am always starting a rumour about Sunshine but, in fact, my posts about Sunshine are few and far between.

I dare suggest that neither Rex Bennett nor the Sunshine CC would care for individuals, informed or otherwise, to publicly debate what may or may not have happened here. Whether Rex, who is a Falcon's Team of the Century member, was paid, not paid, is owed money, etc is an issue between him and club and not for debate in this forum.
As a collective, let's try and ease up on the public airing of stories on the internal machinations at various clubs.
Finally, if individuals must run with idle gossip damaging to either club or individual - let's steer clear of the background source being; "a friend of a friend of a friend".. This is not Women's Day.
You are entitled to your opinion, but as don't agree with it you will just have to wear it!

With your feedback and position noted, I suggest that all others participants in this forum ignore anything from you that is idle gossip nonsense (as difficult as it may be to bite their tongue) and engage/respond only when contributions made return to those of a material or tangible nature.
I hate envisaging a situation where the proverbial "pandora's box" is opened with regards to such nonsense as I don’t think anyone would win in such a situation; individuals, clubs, Association, etc.
It is not idle gossip. Its been in the public domain since a 2 column article in the Brimbank Leader dated 9 July 2013 headed 'Bennett Gets The Flick'. The article states the club's president refused the reporter's request to elaborate on the matter, but Rex certainly did not hold back on what he thought about the matter.
So, this is now over 2 years old and the club didn't want anything on public record yet you're choosing to rehash?!?

When a club declines to go on the public record about an allegation of unpaid invoices then there is a pretty strong chance the invoices weren't paid. If they had been paid, you would think that such a club would go on the record and deny such allegations. It is simply not on that curators, coaches, or players provide their services to a subbies club and not receive their remuneration. Any club that fails to fulfill it's obligations is actually bringing the entire comp into disrepute. Even though it is not a good news story it deserves to be out there.

Ben Wood you have such a misguided understanding of the purpose of a forum like this. You've previously argued for members not to comment or speculate on player movements (Melton) now you're attacking Westland for discussing coaching movements.
This forum exists so individuals can anonymously post rumours and potential stories not exclusively rely on limited releases from journo's at the leader.
Please take note the only one out of line here is you and your continued insistence to publicly comment on these issues in a formal capacity as pres of a subbies club.

Don't disagree if contractual obligations have not been met or fulfilled even though public airing would not be my modus operandi.
Do you know this to be the case categorically?!? Or are we relying on "a close friend of the Coach in question for one side only of an event that is over 2 years old"?

Anyone here is welcome to run their mouths to their hearts content on player movements, etc.
What I have a problem with is when the VSDCA Exec is questioned, the integrity of clubs questioned, leaders questioned.
The Melton situation was not as simple as refuting players coming and going, I was challenging the speculation as to how and why and the insinuations made about the club and their heirachy. If you don't understand the suble nuances here, that's your issue - not mine.
If you consider it out of line for an elected official to publicly defend his Association, his Executive and affiliate clubs from scurrilous rumour - I'll live with that.
Let's be clear here, I have no issue with 90% of general public debate and gossiping here. However, when the tone is accusatory or malicious - I will stand up for individuals, clubs and Association and, you know why, the VSDCA Exec and Melton Exec (as an example) warrant more respect and decency than to be questioned by a bloke who cuts some grass and runs his mouth in a public forum contributing such brilliance as lambasting the VSDCA Exec for not pre-empting a public holiday.
So run your mouth with your anonymous stories of comings and goings, etc - however, where individuals, clubs or the Association are attacked with malicious rumour mongering...

If you are so adamant that there is no basis to these allegations why don't you pick up the phone and find out directly from the club in question.

Contact a club to provide them an opportunity to profess their innocence for something they have been accused of?
Hmmm - so the club's guilty until they prove their innocence are they based, exclusively, on the public airing of 3rd hand information? Streuth - hope you don't work in our legal system.
And, to clarify, I'm not adament of anything other than the public reporting of such accusations is irresponsible.

It's a serious matter and you should be more circumspect. You continually contradict yourself with your responses to the point where it is valueless continuing discussion. By all means pop your head in the sand, makes no difference to me. At the risk of getting Scratch agitated you are well aware that the phasing out of the dividend is fast approaching and I have real concerns about at least two clubs ability to sustain themselves in the post dividend environment. If this isn't a warning sign to you then nothing will be.

We all need to move on and get ready for THIS season and if Westland feels so strongly about the way his former club is being administered, here's a tip, get a reform ticket together and challenge the incumbents at the next Annual Meeting. Then you can show all of us, rather than TELL all of us how the joint should be run.

The issues you touch upon are mutually exclusive; 1) being what Sunshine CC have been accused of - incidentally, an event over 27 months ago now, and 2) future change to the VSDCA Dividen allocation.
If you want to have an informed, educated and rational discussion on anything - I'm happy to do so. I will be happy to share information appropriate for a public domain and will not stoop to assasinating the character of individuals or clubs. Where people want to take pot shots at the VSDCA, individual VSDCA Exec members like Phil O'Meara, elected Executive of VSDCA affiliate clubs, etc - a line needs be drawn.
Now, let's delineate the two issues as noted above to, hopefully, make things perfectly clear:
1) Sunshine CC
They have been accused of something (publicly) from an event over 2 years ago, following 3rd hand feedback representing one side of the story. You think that the Kangaroo Court of BigCricket is the appropriate forum for this and want to suggest that Sunshine can be provided the opportunity to prove their innocence after the public airing of these accusations?
Who knows what actually occurred but it's not my role or anyone else within this forum to hold them to account in a Kangaroo Court setting. There are processes and vehicles for that and I will go out on a limp and suggest that these are not BigCricket.
2) the phasing out of the VSDCA Dividend
Of the 28 VSDCA clubs, argubaly 4 to 6 will confront immediate short to medium term challenge and will need make structural and strategic change to ensure they adapt to the new world. 6 to 8 clubs will be unaffected and it will have NO noticeable impact on the operational running of those clubs. The remaining 14 to 18 clubs will notice the reduction in annual Income but will have scope, capacity and resources to adapt to ensure that any pain is short term only and will not impact long term viability and sustainability.
The above issues are mutually exclusive and any concerns you hold pertaining to the Dividend removal should have no correlation to what is right/wrong or otherwise as to what Sunshine have been accused of. Neither you nor I are judge, jury and executioner in this space. As for being contradictory, in being serious for 30 seconds, the one basic principle of consideration I apply is how would I (or officials at other clubs - think of your own) feel with dirty laundry being aired in a public domain (that may or may not have any merit to it).
