Subbies Thread

The Executive Committee has decided that all 3rd & 4th XI games scheduled for Saturday, December 19 and Sunday, December 20 have been cancelled.

1st & 2nd XI games will commence at the normal One Day time of 12.30 pm but will be reduced to an 80 over game(40 overs per side).

Captains and Umpires can make arrangments for additional drink breaks throughout the game, and the innings break can be extended to 30 minutes.
Was there any feedback from this round on player and umpire safety? An umpire and a player went down in the Werribee v Hoppers match. I heard an umpire and a player were affected in the Altona 2nd XI fixture as well.

Interesting to note that one Carl Sandri has been named in the 12 for Moorabbin this week.
Will shake up the Comp I feel will a close victory over Werribee proof of that. They will win some games against good teams and potentially knock one we expected to play finals out and pitentialy sneaking in themselves

In deference to John Craigs' contribution to Subbies, they should start trying.

There is a new generation out there and we should lead the way by calling it what it is.

If the diehards in the West managed to get their heads around the name change of Footscray to the Western Bulldogs, surely we can manage it.

Seriously, folks, it aint that hard!!!!!!!

How are Brighton cc feeling right now. Big spending on players in the off season has produced 5 losses out of 5. Having a shocker down there on the beach.

$$$ can't buy success. Clubs should really have a think about this. One or two big names will not get u into finals or win a flag. Then they leave after 1 season and the whole process starts again. What's the point if $$$ does not get u flag.

Lucky sum clubs/people have deep pockets.

Not too worried. 4 wins last weekend. Craig team top of group again and 8th finals in a row. Our feeder comp SECA has 9/9 teams make semi finals with lots of our juniors playing. Celebrating our 173rd year.

Noticed an interesting stat from last weeks Moorabbin v W'town game.
Moorabbin's opener carried his bat for 13 not out from a total of 130 off 72 overs,Chris Tavare stuff.
A host of vital games tomorrow, weather permitting, tips are Willy over Yarraville in an upset,Elsternwick to beat Altona,Brighton over Ormond to continue their slide,Malvern easily over Melton,Hoppers probably outright over a shocking Sunshine,Werribee maybe over Caulfield and Oakleigh over Moorabbin even with C.Sandri!
Good luck to all.

It would be a real shame if that was to occur. Love him or hate him he has done a lot of work for that Club and for the VSDCA and hopefully RPB can continue in the VSDCA.

The only team in the competition with more than 1 overseas player? 3 in total. Wait until they have to conform to VSDCA guidelines before completely judging. Still massive credit to them as they have been fantastic in all grades, have fantastic facilities, and are great on and off the field.

On RPBCC - What has happened there this year? Yes Johnstone is a good player and his loss hurts. But they've won 2 out of possible 44 games across all grades this year. Good on them for realising they aren't coping and are trying to do something about it - we don't need another Sunshine.

Pretty sure you can have more than 1 overseas player, as long as they are both not first class cricketers (happy to be corrected....)
Depth has always been an issue at RPBCC, somewhat covered by a strong 1st XI. We've seen it at a few Clubs, this year especially that depth is an issue.
Unfortunately it's almost a case of the strong get stronger, the battlers keep battling.

For several seasons Sunshine has had an influx of new players, many of whom only play for it for one season. Without them, it would have had extreme difficulty in fielding 4 teams week-in, week-out. On one occasion this season it had to cover the loss for one round of 7 players (who are generally referred to as ''imports'' even though they may not be in terms of the comp's rules), due their declaring themselves unavailable for that round. When Geoff King was the president I suggested to him the club seriously consider looking into moving to the VTCA, the principal reason given being its promotion/relegation system allows clubs to compete against sides of similar standard. Nothing has subsequently happened to cause me to change my opinion. This season, Sunshine has dipped its toe into the VTCA fielding a team in its one-day Sunday U17 comp and performing well. A very good initiative on the club's part.
I hold the VSDCA's executive's proficiency in high regard, and that they have stood by Sunshine, but surely this stance is by now being sorely tested.

It's not as though they have recruited mercenary Poms (although Lambert sounds like a disaster)...they've had guys from PNG and maybe Vanuatu? and were one of the leaders in this program giving opportunities to guys in developing cricket nations.
