HOW SWEET IT IS.

Dreaded waking to the headlines, ''England wins First Test'' so elated when I read that we gritted it out to deny the Poms and strike the first blow in the battle for the Ashes.🎉🥳

The selectors will be reluctant to change a winning side but Boland proved he is not up to the rigors and pressures of Ashes cricket. Must make way for Starc or Neser at Lords.

Will this be Jimmy Anderson's swan song. The veteran great looked ineffective for the most part as his paltry figures indicate. Only came alive when the overcast did. Broad was the Pom's best by a country mile. Big shoes to fill when he hangs up the boots.

When I first woke up and looked the scorecard on the computer it said we still needed 7 runs so thought we must have run out of overs or rained out. And then realised it had simply frozen after I refreshed the page and we won!

We had about 20 to win when I first woke up. Had to subdue the celebration as the wife was asleep next to me.

Our girls are also battling the Poms for the Ashes. At stumps we are 7/328 with our champion all rounder Ellyse Perry stranded on 99, her and the partnership with Tahlia McGrath was the driving force. Our new skipper in place of Meg Lanning scored a duck egg.

An added century by Annabell Sutherland took us close to 500, but those pesky Pommie girls counter attacked overnite. Reckon our girls are hamstrung using the local Dukes ball, as I expect none of them have ever bowled with it before the warm up match a few days ago.

This is nothing but a bat fest Test with one Pommie Tammy Beaumont, 32, scoring a double. She came into this match with a @26 Test average. Not sure our quicks have the skill to best utilise the Dukes ball. Offie Ash Garner was our best with a 4for.
