I have that book too but I haven't read it yet. I like how he re-claims Grimmett haha. Only surprising one their is Rangana Herath...didn't think he'd be near the best spinner of all time?

This is MC's opinion of the best spinner(s) from each country, he's not saying that Herath is better than someone like Ajmal from Pak but if you were to pick the best SL team of all time you'd go with 2 spinners and have Murali and Herath, seems fair to me. Seems even fairer that we get Clarrie back, what's the best we got from the Aussies? Skippy Sinclair?

Makes more sense about Herath but even so...I'm no expert on SL history but surely there's been a better spinner than him at some stage in their history? I think he's a good spinner but not a great one as yet.

Agreed. Aussies always stealing our stuff, pineapple lumps, Far Lap and one of the best spinners ever haha. Well, we've gotten Brownlie who's yet to prove himself and a second hand/rate Ronchi *cough* in recent times lol.

For me, It is Shane Warne. He war far more ahead of all the Leg Spinners. But there are/were many good off-spiners after Muralidharan.

Shane Warne for best spinner by a mile.

As far as other spinners go I'm stunned no one has mentioned Bhagwat Subramanya Chandrasekhar.

West Indies legend Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards once claimed that he found Chandra absolutely unplayable.

Shane warne "the king of spin" is the best.No doubt Murlidaran has taken the most wickets but lets not forget that murlidaran played a lot more matches than Warne

There are only two serious candidates here, Warne and Muralidardan.

Without trying to create a storm here, I have always questioned the legitimacy of Muralidardan's action, and thought it very wrong that the rules of cricket were adjusted to accommodate the way he bowls.

Warne's action has never been called into question.

I was at the Melbourne test in 1995 when Darrell Hair kept calling Muralidardan for throwing. At the ground without radio commentary it was hard to work out what was going on at first. When we got home and looked at video of his action I had little doubt Hair was making the right call.

Some time later Adam Gilchrist - a man not known to have told a lie in his life - was quoted as saying Muralidardan threw. He was silenced. Screwed in much the same manner Andrew Symons would be years later for being correct, but in what was deemed a "non-politically correct" way.

He's not the only Sri Lankan to have the rules changed for him as well. Didn't they change the rules for Lasith Malinga as well? Personally, I'm glad they didn't ban either. Just because I love watching Malinga the slinger bowl and I believe Muralidaran is a gentlemen and he's a hero in SL.

I have no problem with Muralidardan the man, or the sportsman. But I do have difficulty with a sport not strong enough to uphold its own rules, and pigheaded enough to silence people who attempted to enforce those rules.
