Same here. I wonder how they managed to get the necessary majority for introducing it but apparently can't reach a consensus on abolishing it.

Crikey Ritchie, from another Ozzie on the other side of our continent, your time lines muck us Sandgropers about too with footy finals and cricket being aired for us 2 or 3 hours early, like at the indecent time of 12:30pm for Grandfinals.
And why do Easteners love that silly notion of daylight saving when we all know it fades the curtains and stops cows' milk. So silly.

Hi all, I'm Terry, a net friend of Richie's over several other forums.
As another certified Western Australian living in Perth, our capital, weather here is just fine now. Winter gone was good with decent rain, big downpours, and the damns are filling. Despite that, living in a state with big deserts our dams aren't enough. Population growth, Industries...Our Ground water mounds too are shrinking resulting in a need to curtail garden bores. Luckily we spent billions building two desalination plants with another one on the way.

So, It's early spring time and daily max temperatures are in the low twenties. Perfect for bicycle riding and garden work. I love it.
Unfortunately, the really tough weather is looming. Our really hot weather starts in December and goes through to March.
Last summer was dreadful, temperatures went to the mid forties about 5 days in a row where I live. So hot on Christmas day my car's air conditioner died and bits of my dash melted. The bitumen roads got sticky too melting a bit in the sun.
I was picking up and visiting some old relic mates I love to care for. Then my home air conditioner died as well.A very hot and unpleasant Christmas.
At least it's a dry heat here which is fine up to the low thirties C before needing to turn on my cheap evaporative air conditioning.
Most understand that Global warming is the key factor producing all the extreme Climate changes now seen more and more globally. My eldest daughter is in Melbourne where they're having dreadful floods right now, and that's very much an unusual weather event. Century old extreme climate/rainfall records are being beaten almost weekly nowadays. Many Aussies are fleeing to Tasmania, a mid sized island and state of Australia, just south of Melourne with a more temperate climate. House prices are surging upwards too, but even there they too suffered a blistering hot summer recently.
Seems the whole Eastern seaboard are in for a massive drenching again. Even massive Fires too no doubt.
I was a volunteer fire fighter once, and fear for those current Fire Fighters...it's a much tougher job now.
It rained a tiny bit today so I didn't adjust my sprinkler controls, as I look inward forgetting the bigger picture, sometimes.

We're having unusually warm weather here in the UK, it should be quite chilly now but it's quite mild instead.

Who has pool problems other than me. To say I have been unlucky with my pool is a major under statement. Past few years specially. There was a huge thunderstorm which deposited masses of palm seeds, mud and assorted debris into my sparkling clear water. There must have been several cms of this muck covering the bottom which took me months and hours of painstaking work to remove and return the sparkle. There are always the end of the life of filters, pumps, cells, cleaners etc, all of which deaden the pool life until replaced.. at great cost I add. Well guess what my three year old computerised chlorinator packed it it last week and immediately turned my water a murky brown so I have been running around madly trying to have it fixed. Then two of my cleaner hose sections sprang a leak so more hassle. Unless you are an avid swimmer, hold regular pool parties and are prepared to spend hours every week on maintenance, DONT BUY A POOL.

I thought to go half way and put in a big heated 6 person spa.
More fool me. Sure my two daughters and their friends loved it, as did my ex. However, it was up to me to constantly watch the chemicals, clean it, empty it, fill it, pay big power bills to heat it, and repairs ....
Since my girls and ex have moved out, I emptied it 15 years ago and unplugged it. Before, if my girls and their girl/boy friends jumped in, I had to scrub hard later to get rid of scum line left by makeup, sweat, dirt, ..?. yukky indeed.
I replaced one motor so maybe a $2k big service would fire it up again. I don't care to. I don't have any solar panels either nor any desire to as for one "old fellow", my power bills are cheap.

Only put in the pool back in late 90s mainly for my son and his mates. So in the early days it got plenty of use as wife and I used it regularly too. But then the novelty wore off and we used it less and less but the maintenance continued. My dogs also liked a paddle, but not my Sheltie after my son stepped on his hind leg and broke it. For the next few months I had to give him hydro therapy every day. He was back walking later on so it worked a treat but he limped for the rest of his life.

Depends where you live a bit as well I reckon.. here we in a small have an awesome outdoor one all summer that has cheap season tickets to use as much as you want all summer about 1 minutes drive away, why bother with effort of another small one at home? But living in say Kalgoorlie where they have a modern indoor pool that's good for exercise but nothing outside I could see the appeal of having something for leisure swimming at home as well. Even hotter and drier there as well.
One of the other reasons we put in the pool was wife and I settled a good distance from the coast. Growing up we kids were always at the beach as we lived near coastal suburbs Cronulla and Coogee on and off for 20 years. When we moved to inner south western Sydney in the first decade of our marriage, as I say we were well away from the sand and salt water so having our own pool kinda made up for that.

When my kids were little I confess Pools and Trampolines made me a bit nervous for their sake so we avoided them. A pool was too costly then anyway but they loved a friend's where I could watch them, and not have to maintain the pool. My friend's kids were grown up and he said he was a slave to maintaining it. "Don't get one" he said.
This forum had become a graveyard so I am leaving with a heavy heart.
I have personally greeted 14 new members in past 6 months and none of them stayed for more than a few weeks. Some only a day. I have repeatedly asked admin re the software upgrade. To no avail.
No fun posting cricket alone during a match as well. So going where there is company.

Yeah I left for a few years for the same reason before coming back but looks like it's dead again.
Shame as it's gotten close a few times to getting going, even if it managed to find a soil core of only 10-20 regular posters it could becoming a good little site but after so long it's hard not to give up.

That's the trend of a lot of forums these days not just this one, people seem to be busier than they use to be.
It's tough but we'll bounce back. The southern hemisphere season is here and international games are fast approaching so that presents a good opportunity to get things going again. Hopefully that will attract a few people with some activity and there are other ways to get people here too.
