Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

Could this be the first steps in having a new Premier Cricket club located in the fastes growing area of Melbourne ?

Leader Community ePaper

Or at least the potential for an amalmagation of an old and tired Premier Cricket club with a new and vibrant Sub-District club ?

Mmmm. Not sure why the lin didn't work. So here it is .....

Best Attacks

1. St. Kilda
1. Mueller
2. Babula
3. Cleary
4. Sykes
5. Graf
Despite the loss of Beer, have reasonable back-up in Mitch Sykes; plus add to their pace stocks through the unofficial recruitment of Mark Cleary. Were the best attack last year, and seem to be placed similarly this year.

2. Ringwood
1. Gilmour
2. Gale
3. M. King
4. D. King
5. D. King
Have lost McKay but still have ample depth in their side, with a huge amount of bowling options amongst them. Also have Michael Topp and Stephen Nicholls in reserve. Their bowling was still impressive last year, its batting the more vulnerable aspect.

3. Frankston
1. Groves
2. Miller
3. Boland
4. Crawford
5. Holland
6. Chasemore
Jewelly has put together a very strong bowling attack down the coast. It will be interesting to see how often Holland is available, with Victorian duties between him and McGain still to be determined.

4. Carlton
1. Manser
2. Austin
3. Dickinson
4. Salm
5. Smyth/Buszard
Don't really have anything beyond part-time spin to replace Holland, but they haven't really had him playing too often over the past three years anyway. The loss of Welsford is more than compensated through Peter Manser, and will continue to strangle teams with enormous discipline.

5. Casey
1. Herrick
2. Hawking
3. Rose
4. Trego
5. Eddy
Short on depth, but with Herrick's endurance and Rose's consistency, they still manage to apply pressure throughout the day. Can't deny that their bowling is effective, with it carrying the team through to the finals after a few poor years.

6. Camberwell
1. Pietersz
2. Fekete
3. Pearson
4. Roberts/McNamara
5. Howell
Their bowling was very ordinary last year, with two double centuries being hit against them. Rumours are that Sean Pietersz hasn't missed a beat over in Tasmania, and Fekete is a former regular in the Victorian 2nd XI. A tip for the big improvers in the bowling stakes

Add Wright to Casey attack and attack is much more imposing. Will it be Cleary vs Wright for spot in Vic side?

Ah, knew that I'd leave someone obvious out. I think Cleary is there as back-up for when the inevitable injuries hit. Wright will definitely be the first option, after his finish to the year for the Bushrangers.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

Have heard that the 50 over game will be changed to the new one-day format which is 20-20/25-25.

This is the set up for the domestic format.

The one-day format:

45 overs per team with split innings of 20 and 25 overs.
- A maximum of 12 overs by any one bowler.
- 10 wickets per team and 12 players per team - teams can bat any 11 of the 12 and field any 11 of the 12.
- A maximum of two bouncers per over.
- A new ball from each end at the start of the innings and no replacement new balls.
- No power plays
- Fielding restrictions: Overs 1-5 = 2 fielders outside the circle; 6-20 = 4 outside; 21-25 = 2 outside, 26-45 = 4 outside.

May be some variations to the district format, is this a possibility of happening?

Any Thoughts?

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket - 2010/11

Yes, the 45 over split format will be voted on by club delegates Monday night. Only difference will be one ball per innings at premier level rather than a new ball at each end which occurs at first class level.

Most likely will be passed by delegates.

This was passed by the Delegetes last night for Premier 1sts and 2nds.

Carlton
Melbourne
StKilda
Geelong
Prahran
Ringwood
University
Casey South Melbourne
--------------------------
Fitzroy
Richmond
Essendon
Dandenong
Hawthorn
Frankston
Camberwell
North Melbourne
Footscray

Hope North go better than predicted but worst recruiters in the comp unfortunately!! Not far behind the scraggers.:p

I think St Kilda will be the team to beat this year especially if cleary remains on the fringe @ the vics. Prahran and Camberwell have recruited well and should be moving up the ladder.

It will be interesting to see if Melbourne can remain a force considering they have lost cassell and halbish, with dale only available for the limited over games. Does anyone know if they have recruited anyone to cover the loss?

Hard to see Prahran making the top 8 this season. If they do, it will only be for their batting in the shorter formats of the game. No a lot of bowling stocks and with no huckett, it leaves a massive gap to fill.

My ladder predictions for this season and batter & bowler to make significant impacts during the year.

St Kilda - cleary and rummans
fitzroy - Mash and Fagg
carlton - Pilon and Austin
geelong - Elliott and carson
melbourne - Kent & coleman (could be a big learning curve for him)
ringwood - Stray & Gilmour
Frankston - Boland and Walker
casey - Rose and wright
-----------------------------
prahan - Forsyth and Sealey
camberwell - Hill & Fekete
university - Kennedy & Sanders
northcote - Doropolous with both bat & ball
essendon - Fletcher and Cameron
dandenong - Hales & Darren Pattinson
footscray - Travis Dean and Robertson
richmond - Carters & Wise
hawthorn - Tormey & Hewat
north melbourne - ???

I think the big player for them will be Seymour. He can bowl some gas when he gets fit, but that's the biggest problem for him; staying fit. Salpietro will bowl some handy spinners for them too, although Prahran doesn't usually take spin too well. Guess it doesn't take any sort of bowling too well.

Best Batting Teams

1. Prahran
1. Forsyth
2. Wild
3. Heywood
4. Salpietro
5. Schlittler
6. De Bolfo
7. Coates

Also has Rogers to slide in there while the Champions League is on. On a super flat deck, they'll be very difficult to knock over, and with Hussey and McGain to come in around finals time, they can set themselves up well if things fall into place.

2. Melbourne
1. Kent
2. Cooper
3. Hill
4. Dart
5. Brown
6. Petricola
7. Middlin

Have heard that Ben Way is a reluctant starter this season, so have left him out. Doubt that Kent will have two average seasons in a row, and there are always a few boom youngsters looking to shift into the middle order.

3. Fitzroy-Doncaster
1. Kellar
2. Dickson
3. Mash
4. Ghasperides
5. Maxwell
6. Bremner

With Mash likely to play the whole season, and with the added responsiblity of captain/coach, you can be sure that he'll thrive on it this year. He's very tough to dismiss, and it provides opportunities for Maxwell to express himself, which can be super dangerous.

4. Carlton
1. Gulbis
2. Peter-Budge
3. Pilon
4. Ross
5. Buszard
6. Smyth

Have a big bunch of young kids ready to step up and who have performed for a long time in 2nd XI cricket. They have shown the ability to take to 1st XI cricket like a duck to water; and with Hancock still waiting in the wings, they've got the backbone of a really good long-term batting outfit.

Honourable mentions to:

Geelong: The loss of Shanahan and Peake will be hard to replace, but they do have some ready replacements in Dean, Thorne and Graham, as well as Buchanan, Elliot and Harrison remaining.
St. Kilda: A lot tends to rest on Rummans, of course, but they do have some young players like Handscomb who should only get better, plus Cleary will be a very handy batsman at District Level.
Ringwood: The loss of Flynn is still a worry, and Osborne stood up a bit last year but they were prone to the odd collapse. Obviously Stray is a class act, and will no doubt be the key to their side once more.
Frankston: With Jewell seemingly likely to play every game, their team has a man to bat around, and do bat pretty deep.
