WC in slump...chance for USA to rescue

Re: WC in slump...chance for USA to rescue

"But I can't stand all these colours [sic]. Why can't they all wear
whites?"

As you can see, church ladies are a universal phenomenon.

...but Dehring NEVER thought of promoting ticket sales to free-spending,
fun-loving, sports eager, college age Yanks.

"accomodations...may be scarce or unavailabe."

WC tickets sure aren't scarce or unavailable.

Common sense logic:

Thousands of Yanks in Caribbean during WC: 1

Thousands of unsold WC tickets: + 1

Should market WC tickets to
Yanks vacationing in Caribbbean: = 2

Logic of Dehring:

xome cricket ex-pats in NY/Florida: 1

Thousands of unsold WC tickets: + 1

Should market WC tickets
to few ex-pats in states: = 1

Cup tourists warned

Re: WC in slump...chance for USA to rescue

"Jamaica had a record 3 million visitors last year."

Most of 'em Yanks. How many has Dehring been trying to sell WC tickets to?

Yeah...and we could just stay in bed all day long except that someone just might hint to us there could be some exciting sports out there in the wide
world worth checking out.

Yeah, looks more and more like this WC's gonna be
an organizational disaster. A month after it's over
Dehring's gonna look at the boxes and boxes of unsold
WC tickets piled up in his office, gonna get phone calls
right and left from disappointed sponsors, in-debt-up-to-their eyeballs officials etc...and
then he's gonna look at the tourist figures and see the
thousands and thousands of Yanks who came and went
from the area and never had a rat's arse clue the WC
was even going on. Then maybe he'll look in the
mirror and it'll hit him: "There's the 2007 Idiot Of The Islands."

Re: WC in slump...chance for USA to rescue

Well, at least the Windies can no longer gripe that they're the only ones who've never staged the WC. Probably won't get another chance for another
thirty years...and by then the Yanks may have taken up cricket and
will themselves be hosting the WC. They'll give a few warmup matches to the
rastamen, who, by then, have hopefully learned how to organize cricket matches without screwing up.

You're overestimating American tourists. Most don't really care about the place they're visiting, they just want to relax and be pandered to.

Harsh, but fair.

Re: WC in slump...chance for USA to rescue

Somehow I don't believe the articles that I have just read. I think that the USA are jealous because they just can't take no for an answer.

What's so unbelievable about the last article? It just says that the United States is helping the Caribbean with security for the World Cup. The US doesn't care about cricket, but it does care about preventing terrorism.

Re: WC in slump...chance for USA to rescue

So that's USA's involvement with the WC: showing the Windies how to
turn their countries into police states! Why, Dimebag W'd be so
happy he'd probably volunteer to bowl the first ceremonial delivery of
the tournament. Not a bad idea, if the batsmen slams it back between
his eyes. "Sorry massa president, but maybe at'll knock sum sense
into yo head, mahn."

"...authorities have revived the culture of beach cricket. Caribbean
cricket players are regularly playing with young children to spread the
message of the World Cup."

Any of 'em trying to spread the word of the World Cup by playing with the thousands of Yank tourists on the beaches?

Yet another crappy BBC article on the Caribbean.

Filled with inaccuracies and worse, the entire piece has a patronizing tone.

Most of the host islands have populations between 100,000 and 300,000. They could face up to 50,000 international visitors during the event.

between 100,000 and 300,000? WTF?

Jamaica has a population of approx 2 mil.

Trinidad a population around 1.5 mil.

Barbados certainly has more than 300,000 people.

And Guyana is not a fricken island .

So that covers the "most" he's clueless about and since this klutz didn't do his research, we know how to approach the rest of the article.....

A distance of five kilometres, the distance between my hotel and the Kensington Oval cricket ground, takes an hour or more and taxi fares are never less than $15.

15 dollars?

..........BS. Barbados has a public transport system but ...

Why is this journalist even complaining about price? Does he complain about price when visiting other "pricey" destinations? There are more expensive places in London, has he ever written an article about that fact?

Look.....The Caribbean is an attractive tourist destination -either you can afford to come or you can't. If you can afford to come, don't whine about the local economy and how you can't get by payin 15 dollars. Do like most people who go on vacation: expense it.

But internet facilities are unreliable

Where in Barbados he staying? Some backwater shed? As far as I know, internet services on the island is pretty reliable.

The time taken to serve pizza at the pizzeria in a mall opposite my hotel was an hour and twenty minutes

The Service industry in the Caribbean needs improvement...but one hour and twenty minutes? Well if yuh harpin 'bout 15 dollars, and such a cheapskate while on vacation, you only have yourself to blame for choosing a cheap restaurant, opposite what is most likely...a cheap hotel.......so wait your full hour and twenty minutes..you get what you pay for.

Add to these novelties the sun-kissed Caribbean beaches, the beautiful women and rousing calypso and you have a World Cup which every potential to be outstanding.

So that is why they chose the caribbean? Women, wine and song..and pretty beaches.... huh? What the hell that have to do with hosting the World Cup? I thought his point was the Caribbean not ready, yet there is "potential" for the WC to be "outstanding" because of pretty women and calypso and sandy beaches. But obviously the Klutz couldn't have recognized the contradiction in his own writing, too busy being patronizing and spewing rubbish.

Idiotic article but not suprising considering the source.
