Who replaces Hayden?

Who replaces Hayden up the top of the order?

Candidates:
1. Hughes
2. Rogers
3. Jaques
4. Warner
5. Michael Hussey
6. Quiney

Hughes has my vote as he has current form, runs on the board, youth and he has genuinly earnt his spot.

Rogers has current form, expierence without being too old but doesn't have quite the form of Hughes and isn't as long of a term prospect as Hughes.

Jaques is definatly a future opener but partnering one of the others on the list. He hasn't played cricket for a while and will need to play some cricket for NSW and make some runs before he plays again in the Australian side. Surely the Aussie selectors have learnt a lesson about playing injured, out of form or players coming back from injury.

Warner is brand new to the side and hasn't played any first class cricket for NSW yet. He is one of the most talented bats in Australia and has Classic Aussie opener written all over his game. Plays attacking, can play the new ball and genuine pace really well, sees the ball as good as anyone, can play all the shots and has heeps of ability. I would like to see him play a bit of First class cricket for NSW before he is selected for tests but he will play test cricket. I can see him in the Justin Langer mould but probably an even bigger hitter than him. It wont be long before he makes the test side and pushes really hard for selection. An attacking opener is definatly on the cards of the selectors now both Hayden and Langer are gone.

Michael Hussey might move up the oarder and open and a middle oarder batsmen might come in like Hodge or David Hussey, IMO this would be a bad move.

Quiney is a good player and started the season really well but at the moment is out of touch and doesn't have the form or stats of some of the others.

Honestly I can see Warner, Jaques and Hughes in the side at the one time in the future. It's only a matter of when.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

I say Hughes.

I reckon jacques needs a few FC games for NSW to see if he still has his form with him after injury.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

WARNER????? the bloke cant get a game for a 2nd string nsw side. u gotta be kidding.
jumping the gun big time.... just like last year with pomersbach

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

Jaques should replace him.

He has unfinished business in the team and if he can recapture his form he should be put straight back in.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

I am voting for Rogers here as he is a fellow Victorian & after a stellar year he is having, he deserves this spot.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

Has to be Jacques talk about a guy earning his spot before he was injured he was the best bat in Australia so if he is fit a certain starter

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

I went Hughes before realising that Jaques was there (I dunno, somehow I missed him). But basically, if Jaques can come straight back into some kind of form, then him. If not, then Hughes should be the go, with an older, more experienced head as backup (Rogers, Hussey with another player in the middle order, or even Kilnger, but he's not my choice. Should be in the poll though.)

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

Yeah Klinger should be in the poll, oops.

Jaques hasn't played cricket for a very long time, he will need some warm up games and runs for NSW.

Hughes should get the spot, at least until Jaques is ready to return.

Warner isn't a replacement for Hayden but in a few years will probably push for that spot.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

Jaques if fit,

Warner has not proved himself enough after one good hit,
hoping to see alot more of him down at NSW before then.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

Cricinfo - Injury flare-up postpones Jaques comeback

Phil Jaques has delayed his return from back surgery by a week in a move that keeps the race to replace Matthew Hayden open. If Jaques is fit he is expected to be part of next month's Test tour of South Africa, but New South Wales' Phillip Hughes and Chris Rogers, from Victoria, are also strong contenders for the opening spot alongside Simon Katich.

************.

Hope it isn't too bad...

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

hughes fo sho.
we need to start breeding some fresh young talent.
take him over to SA and see how he goes.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

Jaques, if fit, which it looks like he won't be. If he isn't then I go Hughes but only for the youth. If Hughes fails and needs more experience then Rogers. If neither of those can do anything then I have absolutely no idea.

Re: Who replaces Hayden?

Why throw Hughes in the deep end and maybe scar him for life?

I'd prefer to see him eased in starting off with the one-day squad here in Australia, then if that works then, play him in a home test series first. Build up his confidence and knowledge at international level first methinks.

Jaques for me!
