Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

Re: Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

There is something in that Stumped. Our wicket keeper compliments players on shots in the hope that they will play more shots and eventually play a false one and get themselfs out. Reverse psychology at its finest!

Re: Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

of course! i like dropping in the one about our bowler being ex Warwickshire and cape town! usually scraes them into a bad shot!

or telling the batsmen to watch being bowled behind his legs by our resident monty! they never belive me till it happens

Re: Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

I like that! Offering proper friendly advice - no-one would believe it's genuine and do the opposite.

I'm not a fan of sledging - definitely not in club cricket where people mostly want to enjoy their day without having to put up with abuse. It's fine to slag your own team-mates though, as long as it's good natured.

Re: Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

Sledging our own players happens alot in our club but its all friendly:D
Like if our pie slow slow pace bowler is bowling we will say " give him your slow one mate" :p

Re: Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

"swingin like a rusty gate"
"why would this guy be batting here he's obviously just a bowler?"
it depends on how they are playing also some sledges can come back and bite you on the ass

thats my other tactic! sledge my own players! its more fun!

Yeh it's great. There's this one guy that leaves everything that isn't gonna hit the stumps or isn't on his leg side. He once swept a ball off the off side (we were shocked he even attempted to hit one on the off side) and got caught at mid on. We always give him so much sh*t. But it's good 'cos he can take it.

Would love to be a keeper if only to give the batsman hell.

Re: Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

the advantage of being a keeper is i can say things very quietly to the batsmen without anyone else hearing!!!! ;)

Re: Wicket Keeping Chat/Chirps/Calls HELP

I don't like sledging in club cricket, as people want to enjoy it.

None the less, when the opposition batsman walked out with his sleeves rolled up (To try and look cool), one of our players preceded to say.
"Look out lads, this guy has something up his sleeve!"
