Womens ICC World T20

Even though I know this will get overlooked, the women's version of the World T20 takes place at the same time as the male version.

Teams include England, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Pakistan.

England are defending champions, expect strong showings from them, Australia, India and New Zealand.

Re: Womens ICC World T20

We try but it's not always the most fashionable of topics.

In theory this should be a close tournament although as I said the usual four should reach the semi-finals.

Agree

I know all the years I played (30) it was the same. Unfortunately the women will never be on equal pegging as the blokes. It's a great game to play, a great game to be involved in but unfortunately if your'e not playing or actively involved it is a bit boring to watch.I've found that out since retiring from playing due to a back injury 9 years ago and being involved with cricket both men and women for 38 years. The atmosphere when watching the Aussie women at the ground or on TV is no where near the standard the men receive and unfortunately it never will be.

Re: Womens ICC World T20

They are taking steps to address this but it will take time. I suspect that your correct in thinking that parity is unlikely to be achieved but the gap can be closed.

For me the key is learning to adapt and realising that the women's is based on a slightly different skill and mind set. The pace is slightly slower as is the amount of power but that doesn't make for any less of a game.

Hopefully, playing games before the men will help in some way and may attract a few new fans.

Watched a few T20 curtain raiser games between Australia and NZ over the summer, the fielding and some of the batting techniques on display were very impressive.

Re: Womens ICC World T20

Their technique has to be solid as they can't really rely on power or using the pace of the ball. Think the top pace a female bowler gets is the low 70's, so the onus is on the bat to time it well and find the gaps.

You are correct and yet the irony is, of all this new technology available since I was at my peak 20 years ago,it hasn't improved the pace of the bowling. Obviously it's not about how fast you bowl but what you do with the ball that counts.
I played Pennant which is now known as Premier grade and Sharon Tredrea who captained the womens Aussie team would bowl at me and I would be shit scared as she bowled quicker than most men and the women of today.
At the time she was the fastest woman bowler in the world and was up their just below Jeff Thompson.

Text book shots are a must as we do not have the physical strength that men have however some of the women playing in Premier would without a doubt put some guys to shame.I have seen it time and time again and have been involved myself when a guy says "go on bowl to me I'll hit you out of the park" only to leave with his tail between his legs.;)

Re: Womens ICC World T20

There is no difference between men's and women's cricket.

The ball is bowled slower, but then the power/reaction speed to hit it is also of a lesser extent to men's, so it evens out. The boundary ropes are brought in and it makes for the same brilliance of a game as the men's is. The selection pool is getting bigger and bigger as time goes on, and now that the women are getting some televised games it is the start of a revolution for women's cricket.

The sides are all so close here, picking a winner is a hard thing to do. I think an India/England final, but anything is possible in T20s.

This is going to be the biggest women's tournament yet, and since it is being run in conjunction with the men's it's likely to get quite a few spectators down to the ground, and hopefully some new stories, albeit probaby brief, to go along with it.

Re: Womens ICC World T20

I have to agree, womens cricket is just as pleasing on the eye to watch (if not more so :p ) and the difference between mens and womens is far less than in some sports, such as football (soccer) where the quality of play can be described as somewhat dire in relative terms.

Re: Womens ICC World T20

Windies take the first scalp with victory over South Africa. Dottin with a ton off 38 balls, second fifty coming in only 13 balls.

Tie in the Eng/Aus game. Do they have super overs?

Seems they do but that was also tied.

Aus win on boundary count-backs in the end as they scored the only 6.

Re: Womens ICC World T20

I don't like the boundary countback rule. Runs are runs, it seems unfair that a side gets an additional benefit because of the format some of them were scored.

I don't like the One-Over Eliminator either, they should just leave the game at a tie and be done with it.

Agree, with the exception of finals or eliminators that is of course.

Seems a bit of a wishy washy way to decide things but them's the breaks.
