Wrist Spin Coaching/workshops Thread

Any ideas of dates/times? I would like to come if its in Cambs; although I'm not technically a leg spinner, I do coach them and you never stop learning.
Hi SLA,

You would be more than welcome too. It would be great to get both yours and Tony's feedback; as a Club Coach, I always value Tony's input!

However, I doubt it would be in Cambridgeshire. We are a few miles south of Cambridge but in Essex; just over the border... but close to the M11.

When I have a final list of 'wants' from the workshop, I shall put it to the coach and see when we can fit it in and the duration. So far, it sounds like a half day but if more biomechanics and mind management creep in, it may take longer. If there are more 'technical' wants, it would probably need to be taken under roof and will impact on cost.

As mentioned earlier, I am responding to need so the quicker the 'needs/wants' come in, the quicker we can get this organised.

Hope this helps!

So guys, so far I have:

The bowling action - with focus on the shoulders, hips, getting up on the toes, leading arm and where it should end up.
How to put more revs on the ball.
Getting side-on.
Preparation - drills and exercises for wrist spinners - if any are specific.

Anything else?

All looks good Liz, as a guess I would think that many would like a bit of feedback about 'going round the loop', I know its a can of worms and the coach will need to be careful it doesn't take over the session but still think it would be useful to at least allocate some time to it.

Yes dates will be a key factor - is it likely to be a weekend, I know before now I've missed out on these kind of events because they've been mid-week.

Who have we got showing some interest so far?

Me
Joe (My son)
Pooh leg-spinner
SLA
Darth
Billy
Tony M
Chinas Mum
Loopy

As far as "wants" are concerned it is hard to be specific but I am happy with what is listed in the thread to date. Above all and speaking purely selfishly, if I may, I would like the opportunity to bowl and have the coach examine my action/give feedback on where I could best improve. I'd love to see the other leggies here in action, too. So my main interest is in the practical side and then receiving feedback, but I'm sure I'd find it all worthwhile and enjoyable in whatever form it takes. And again speaking selfishly the longer it goes on the better as these opportunities do not come around very often.

I'd like to come! I'm based in East London but would happily make a journey. Haven't played for years but just started getting the bug again, messing around with Iverson grips and a local brick wall!

Hi boogiespinner, the more the merrier!

Considering the closeness to open season, would you all prefer this workshop later in the year? It looks like you will all be very busy on the coming weekends!

Hi Liz.

I was just going to mention that, funnily enough. My season starts on 12th April. I definitely want to come to the workshop but not at the expense of a match, so later in the year is fine by me.

ah, I was hoping that with the masterclass coming soon I might still have a faint hoping of making the England team later this season, even though I haven't played for years and at 42 time is perhaps running out. My accuracy was always little erratic but I only ever hit silly-mid-off directly once. As for pace I did once have a batsman come down the track and spin around to play a pull shot for 4 through fine leg which was a little embarrassing but I can definitely bowl quicker now

Get in there mate you're just a young-un at 42! You've got at least another 10 years in you.

Have we got a list going on here yet with those that are interested? I'll go back through the thread and see if I can get it going...

1. Me Someblokecalleddave AKA Dave Thompson - Basildon, Essex
2. Boogie Spinner - East London
3. Darth Spin
4. Joe (My son)
5. Pooh leg-spinner
6. SLA
7. Billy
8. Tony M
9. Chinas Mum
10. Loopy

Hopefully the more recent and obscure members of the forum will keep indicating that they're interested as the season gets going?

Boogie Spinner if you're in East London, do you ever play at the Fairlop Waters (The place where there's about 30 cricket pitches).

I don't think I've ever been there... think I would have remembered it. There's a few pitches on Hackney Marshes where I played couple of times but I think that's different? I used to play home games with the Hackney Grasshoppers on Victoria Park and on a pitch we shared with Highgate CC. Ah, happy memories! But the best is yet to come!

Stevey Babe! Wondered what happened to our favourite bass player! Poor You, how did you manage to do it?
Playing football out of cricket season...January time
Only just recovering still now!
How's you doing?
Been busy and spending too much time as Secretary of my club now so that's where my dedication is at the moment
