2016/2017 Barclay Shield

Doubt it. What's this I here about your skipper being involved in a controversial dismissal yesterday? Rumour has it that a Bundoora bat left his crease after playing a shot, to pick up a ball to give to a fielder when T.Wise said 'don't worry mate I'll get it'. He then promptly picked up the ball and ran the bloke out. Umpire asked him if he was sure he wanted dismissal to stand and Tim said 'yeah 100 percent'. One of those not against the rules but definitely not in the spirit cricket situations.
I wasn't there yesterday so can't comment. In relation to a certain old paradians player , couldn't possibly....

Bye bye Research, gone and will never return to Barclay. If my mail is correct they won't be around in 3 years. Also hearing Burton is already shopping himself around.
Tom asked me to post this for him. Further to the rumour mill, I'll be at research next year regardless of our situation. All the keyboard warriors who've got nothing better to do, keep talking. I'm glad you know who I am because I've got no idea who you are... Keep motivating me, I love it.

While I'm at it the SFOPCC were a disgrace yesterday. One well known individual is tolerated at that place and invites some very ordinary behaviour amongst his team mates and other club members and should be encouraged to give it away. For a 50 year old bloke to carry on the way he does is an embarrassment. It's an ordinary time when our club president has to instruct our senior players to make sure no young player leaves the change room alone unescorted. I'm led to believe that the umpires will following up with a report against the club.

I've played under and against the mentioned player for a number of years, and consider him a very good friend. Whilst I fully understand that he can get under people's skin during games, can carry on a bit and may not be everyone's cup of tea. Talk to people that have played with him, and they'll tell you he's extremely passionate about winning, boisterous and at times silly. Ask the opposition and they'll tell you he's an idiot.

To suggest that he would make any situation for a player unsafe, especially young players, is just ludicrous and scaremongering for the purpose of trying to make whatever happen seem worse. He would never ever be one to put anyone in that position.

Sorry mate. Ask the umpires who are probably two of the better ones going around. Obviously his team mates love him because they follow his poor attitude. It was some of the worst behaviour by a club and its supporters. John may be a great bloke in certain circumstances but what he does is spark teammates and others to go beyond what's reasonable which results in flames. Others were just as bad but he does nothing to discourage. And he wonders why opposition blokes don't bother hanging around after a game. If he's a good friend, then perhaps encourage him to give it away. 50 year old blokes yelling out umpires are Effing C's when he gets given out lbw in front of women and kids is bad enough. Is lack of respect for the game, other participants etc was the final straw for me.

I wasn't either mate, but from all account an ordinary bit of work. 1 person whom I shall not name, told me it was one of the things he'd seen in 30 years of playing and watching. Losing a fair bit of credibility your man.

I don't cop what you just wrote. You firstly said that your president didn't allow the younger players walk out alone due to safety because of John. Now you've said that it was the other players and supporters that were bad. That's not John's fault, you should name them. Not him. Then you say that he didn't discourage them? Whilst I understand that all players should stop poor behaviour, John isn't coach or captain. So why is it his fault if others are behaving in a poor manner? Shouldn't the club captain pull them up?

I'd imagine if he said that when given out, he would've been reported. Had he not been reported, then its entirely on the heads of those so called good umpires that the behaviour was like that. (I haven't even looked who umpired the game).

Usually when there is a heated situation there are two sides, and often poor behaviour from both sides. Were your boys perfect?

If what I heard was correct in what happened, that's disgraceful. I'd imagine there would've been some pretty embarrassed players playing for the club after the captain makes a decision like that.

Correct me if i an wrong but unless the opposition captain gives batsman the go ahead to touch the ball the ball is still in play and the captain was still within his rights

Within the rules, yes. Hence he was given out. But for a player that is merely trying to assist the fielder, for him to then be run out by said fielder. Is nothing short of disgraceful and I am sure that the vast majority of the club would be embarrassed by it.

Tongs your a do gooder that never takes any side but one your invested in. This is no different . I'm the last person to say not to carry on in a game of cricket. In fact I think it adds to local level cricket , it's great. But how st franks would even want John playing has me absolutely stuffed.hes past 50, a terrible influence on the field and just someone I can't see anybody wanting to have a beer with.

A do gooder? I believe I am apparently standing up for the supposed "villain" in this scenario? And those that have played against me know I am hardly a choir boy on the field. I don't get why his age is an issue, people have short memories, he was named in the team of the year only last season, so his age doesn't have any factor.

Yes but my point is as you say , he's a friend of yours.

I agree with the TOTY stuff but each to their own im of the opinion that if you need to be selecting a 50 yo in your senior side it can't say much for years to come and the depth at the place

Fair point that he's a mate.

You're worried about a 50yo being selected in a team, when he's named in the top 11 in the comp? You pick a side to win a flag based on ability. Not how old they are.
