The 2022 ICC T20 World Cup commences in October with Australia hosting the latest edition of the tournament. Australia come into the tournament as the defending champions, having won the 2021 edition held in the UAE which was supposed to be held in Australia. That tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was then to be held in India before eventually being hosted by UAE and Oman while Australia were granted a tournament to be held in 2022.

To get here, Australia received automatic qualification as the host nation with 11 other countries qualifying courtesy of participating in the main draw of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Four other teams qualified through Global Qualifers A and B which were held earlier this year.

The tournament consists of two rounds, the First Round consisting of two groups before being followed by the Super 12 stage which will see the remaining 12 teams split into another two groups.

Below is the group of fixtures for both stages of the tournament.

Wouldn't mind going to a game in Perth but when you don't live there Sunday or worse Tuesday makes it tough.

The official and unofficial warm-up matches started today. Scotland beat The Netherlands in an official warm-game today at Junction Oval in Melbourne, Scotland posted 7/151 in 20 overs with Richie Berrington top scoring with 41 from 29 balls while Michael Leask chipped in with 37 runs from 21 balls. Brandon Glover and Bas de Leede both took three wickets to be the best of the Dutch attack. Scotland defended their score relatively comfortably as The Netherlands reached 7/133 from their 20 overs. Max O'Dowd made 43 from 35 balls while Brad Wheal was the best of Scotland's bowling attack with 2/24 from four overs.

India took on Western Australia today in an unofficial warm-up game in Perth at the WACA. India posted 7/158 from their 20 overs, Suryakumar Yada scored 52 from 35 balls while Jason Behrendorff took 2/18 and Matthew Kelly 2/43 from four overs each with the ball for WA. In reply, WA reached 8/145 from 20 overs, Sam Fanning made 59 from 53 balls while Arshdeep Singh claimed 3/6 from three overs to be the best of India's bowling attack.

Tomorrow sees a double header at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Sri Lanka take on Zimbabwe from 14:30 local time (3:30 UTC) while Ireland face Namibia at 19:00 local time (8:00 UTC).

Not much buzz around this tournament at least yet, I keep forgetting it's going to be on here.

Most of it being behind a paywall in Australia wouldn't help along with the fact that the most recent edition was last year.

Sri Lanka took on Zimbabwe in the first of today's games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Sri Lanka were sent into bat and made 5/188 from their 20 overs, Kusal Mendis top scored for the Lankans with 54 from 29 balls while Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva whacked 37 from 14 balls at the end to really boost Sri Lanka's total. Zimbabwe made 5/155 in reply, Wessly Madhevere scored 42 runs off as many balls while Milton Shumba made 32 off 25 balls to make sure Zimbabwe got past 150 runs. Chamika Karunaratne picked up 2/26 from three overs with the ball while Maheesh Theekshana claimed 2/39 as Sri Lanka won by 30 runs.

In the later game today, Namibia took on Ireland who won the toss and ask Namibia to bat first. Namibia posted a modest 4/136 from their 20 overs, Gerhard Erasmus top scored with 35 from 36 balls, Jan Frylinck hit 26 from 16 balls at the end of the innings while Michael van Lingen made 26 from 31 balls opening the innings. Ireland were all out for 127 in reply, Ireland's captain Paul Stirling made 37 runs from 30 balls while Lorcan Tucker scored 34 from 35 balls. Ireland were crusiing at 1/65 but fell in a heap, losing 9/62 as Namibia claimed a nine run win. Ben Shikongo finished with 3/11 from two overs while Jan Frylinck, David Wiese and Ruben Trumpelmann all finished with two wickets each.

Tomorrow sees just the one game as Netherlands take on West Indies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground starting at 19:00 local time (8:00 UTC).

Today's game between Netherlands and West Indies was abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain.

Tomorrow sees three games to be played. Namibia take on Zimbabwe at 11:00 local time (0:00 UTC) while Ireland face Sri Lanka from 15:00 local time (4:00 UTC) with both of those games at Junction Oval in Melbourne. At 19:00 local time (8:00 UTC), Scotland battle United Arab Emirates at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Tomorrow's weather forecast in Melbourne is for heavy rain so very unlikely any of the games will go ahead.

Unsurprisingly, there was no play in the official warm-up matches today with Melbourne having had 44mm of rain in the last 36 or so hours.

However, Western Australia played India in another unofficial warm-up match in Perth today. WA were sent into bat by India and scored 8/168 off 20 overs. Nick Hobson scored 64 off 41 balls while D'Arcy Short made 52 from 38 balls to propel WA to a decent total. Ravichandran Ashwin took 3/32 from four overs to lead India's bowlers during the innings.

In reply, India could only muster 8/132 from their 20 overs. KL Rahul notched 74 from 55 balls but India lost wickets at regular intervals to really stunt their chase. Lance Morris, Matthew Kelly and Hamish McKenzie all took two wickets each to restrict India to a pretty low total.

The official warm-up matches have come to an end for a few days with the first round of the tournament starting on Sunday. The warm-up matches for the Super 12 combatants begin on Monday.

Watching the first game good effort by Namibia to recover and score a very respectable 163 v Sri Lanka.

Impressive comeback from Namibia, they were 6/93 from 14.2 overs but recovered to post 7/163 from their 20 overs. Sri Lanka are 4/72 from 10 overs and have steadied somewhat after losing four early wickets.

What a win by Namibia! Sri Lanka all out for 108 with Namibia winning by 55 runs. A big upset in the scheme of things but the Namibians were very impressive in the latter part of their innings and with the ball too. A fantastic first up win for them which puts them in good stead within their group at the moment.

Next up sees Netherlands taking on United Arab Emirates at 1900 local time (8:00 UTC).

Just got back and watched a replay of the 2nd innings, great effort from Namibia but some awful cricket by Sri Lanka.

The Netherlands chased down UAE's total with one ball to spare. UAE struggled on the deck and could muster only 8/111 but bowled very well to keep themselves in the game until the very last over as the Netherlands reached 7/112 from 19.5 overs.

Tomorrow sees the first game of Group B with Scotland taking on West Indies at Bellerive Oval in Hobart from 15:00 local time (4:00 UTC) while Ireland face Zimbabwe in the later game at 19:00 local time (8:00 UTC).

The warm-up matches begin tomorrow for the teams already in the Super 12 phase of the tournament. At the Gabba in Brisbane, Australia host India from 13:00 local time (3:00 UTC) while England take on Pakistan at 18:00 local time (8:00 UTC). Across town at Allan Border Field, New Zealand play against South Africa from 13:00 local time (3:00 UTC) while Afghanistan battle Bangladesh from 18:00 local time (8:00 UTC).

And get home to another upset, Scotland knock off the West indies. Looks like the did it quite comfortably as well.

Maybe the freezing Hobart weather was more like at home for the Scots.

In the Group B Round One matches, Scotland were too good for West Indies today, the second upset result in the first two days of the tournament. Scotland posted 5/160 from their 20 overs, led by George Munsey's 66 not out from 53 balls. Jason Holder was West Indies' best with the ball, taking 2/14 from three overs while Alzarri Joseph nabbed 2/28 from four overs.

In reply, West Indies started relatively well but fell in a heap and were eventually all out for 118. Jason Holder top scored with 38 from 33 balls while Mark Watt claimed 3/12 from three overs. Michael Leask finished with 2/15 from eight overs and Brad Wheal also took two wickets, taking 2/32 from four overs.

The later game saw Zimbabwe take on Ireland which was the second game played at Bellerive Oval today. Zimbabwe found trouble early on but Sikander Raza's brilliant 82 from 48 balls lifted his side to 7/174 from their 20 overs. Josh Little led the Irish attack with 3/24 from four overs, Simi Singh took 2/31 from three overs and Mark Adair finished with 2/39 from four overs.

Ireland did not start well in the chase, slumping to 4/22 as Zimbabwe's pace attack proved too good for the Irish top order. The middle order produced some resistance but that didn't last long as they found themselves at 8/102 from 14.5 overs. Ireland's tail wagged to add some respectability and they eventually finished on 9/143 from their 20 overs to ensure their net run rate didn't take too much of a battering. Blessing Mazurabani took 3/23 from four overs to be Zimbabwe's best with the ball while Richard Ngavara and Tendai Chatara both claimed 2/22 from four overs up front for the Zimbabweans.

Tomorrow sees us head back to Kardinia Park in Geelong for the next set of Group A fixtures. The afternoon game sees Namibia take on Netherlands from 15:00 local time (4:00 UTC) while the later fixture has Sri Lanka facing United Arab Emirates from 19:00 local time (8:00 UTC).

Namibia took on Netherlands in the first of two Group A fixtures today at Kardinia Park in Geelong. Namibia won the toss and chose to bat but found runs tough to score at times. Namibia eventually managed a very modest 6/121 from their 20 overs, Jan Frylinck managed 43 from 48 balls on a track that wasn't too easy to bat on. Bas de Leede's 2/18 from three overs was the best of the bowling for the Netherlands side.

The Netherlands had a better start with the willow and looked to be on track for what would be a moderately comofrtable win. However, some quick wickets to the Namibian side brought themselves right back into the game which saw the Dutch side needing 14 runs off the last two overs and then six off the last over. An early boundary in the final over eased things for the Netherlands and they eventually ggot home by five wickets with three balls to spare having scored 5/122. Vikramjit Singh's 39 from 31 balls got the Dutch side going early and was ably supported by Max O'Dowd's 35 from 35 balls while Bas de Leede's 30 not out off 30 deliveries saw the Dutch side get home. JJ Smit claimed 2/24 from four overs to be Namibia's best bowler on the day.

The second match of the day pitted Sri Lanka against the United Arab Emirates. The UAE won the toss and sent Sri Lanka in which didn't look too good early as the Sri Lankans got off to a strong start as they reached 2/92 from 11.1 overs. However, the Lankans collapsed with Karthik Meiyappan taking a hattrick to run through their middle order, leaving opener Pathum Nissanka to hold the side together. Nissanka finished with 74 off 60 balls to lift Sri Lanka to 8/152 from their 20 overs. Karthik Meiyappan took 3/19 from four overs while Zahoor Khan finished with 2/26 from four overs as well.

In response, the UAE started terribly, slumping to 4/21 from 5.3 overs as Dushmantha Chameera ripped through the UAE top order. Things didn't get any better as Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva ran through UAE's middle order as they folded to 73 all out from 17.1 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva finished with figures of 3/8 from four overs with one maiden while Chameera took 3/15 from 3.5 overs.

That leaves Group A interestingly poised with one game to play for each side. The Netherlands sit on top of the table with two wins while Namibia are second with two points and Sri Lanka third, also holding two points. UAE are last with no points needing some favourable results to qualify for the Super 12 stage.

Tomorrow we head back to Group B for two games to be played at Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Ireland take on Scotland in the early game at 15:00 local time (4:00 UTC) while West Indies face up to Zimbabwe in the second match at 19:00 local time (8:00 UTC).

namibia were terrible this time around after making me a fan after their win. I even googled namibia to see where it was.
They seemed to believe theyd win a t20 game without taking chances with the bat, just hitting singles and dotballs.

Scotland were also woeful for the same reason, very frustrating to watch.

And zimbabwe lost an unlosable game after the position they were in after their batting powerplay.

Needless to say i lost money one each team and a fair amount especially on zimbabwe who only had 2 batsmen i was shocked to discover. Any other team couldve won that game by just batting their tailenders

So ive learned that if nothing else i have bad luck betting on cricket and will only place token $5 bets for the rest of the world cup
