Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

South's Thoughts:

Brighton: No-one notable (Seriously a terrible team).

Carey: Grindrod, Lanning (Very good bowler in an average team).

Caulfield: Handel, Jayaweera, Breen, Astbury (Handel, Jayaweera, Everett, Axais, Breen - Best bowling lineup in a long time).

Geelong College: Kitchen, Lugg (After last season I'm sure Shaw Kitchen is set for another big one this time round).

Geelong Grammar: Noone notable (Haven't seen much of these guys, they have been very average for years though).

Haileybury: Pattinson, Lynch, Wakefield (Will be extremely strong once again, Patto just got a Vic Rookie contract too, watch out opposition batsmen).

Melbourne Grammar: Shaw (is Dunnell still around  ??).

St. Kevins: Theres a few but I dont remember any names (Should be good, give them 1 more year or development and they will challenge).

Wesley: Gairns (Shattered our premiership hopes last year, but with Chaplin-Burch and a few others finishing up their average youth wont be able to challenge yet again).

Xavier: McGorian (There's a few others, cant remember names, but the loss of classy players like Smith, Cosgrave, Bergin, Molan etc will dent their chances).

Yep, Breen was great against us for u guys.
Geel Grammar should be ok i think, as should Geelong college whos bowling line up last yr incredibly only consisted of 2 overs from a yr 12, should be strong!!
Whether Pattinson is still at Hailebury still confuses me?? I hear lynch did his ACL in 1sts footy, but isnt he yr 12?
No idea how to spell it, but that Kangeroo bloke from Skevs was ok i recall.

Well I guess Brighton won't finish last this year then. Lanning is the only decent player at Carey.... and she's a chick!

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

sure, meg's good...but she didnt have a great season last year. she's not the standout player in the team

Then who is? The guys who do the maintainance??? Cause there doesnt seem to be much emphasis on the actual cricket there. Ground's in good nick though.

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

Bit stiff on MGS who finished 2nd and have 9players back who have played firsts. Shaw, Payne, Morris played Dowling and in the 1's. Betts and Keath played for Vic U15's. cannon played Dowling and Voyage plays district 3's.Thomas is over his injury having missed a year after playing in year 10. Also have Gooley and Land as 2nd year players. Bean is in the Aust Senior Indigenous team and Rathnow has represented Gippsland. Probably have forgotten someone and MGS usually have someone new each year!

Re: APS Predictions

Carey shouldnt be as bad as last year. They are on the up as they used 6 year 10s last yr throughout the year. This experience will help. Should be able to bowl sides out but may struggle having dominating batsmen

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

Well boys,
In general it looks as though this years APS comp will be very interesting. It seems every school has gaps to be filled (with this years year 12's being particularly strong) and a lot of inexperienced players will get opportunities. So far though, I see Geelong College, Brighton, MGS and Haileybury as the main contenders. It looms to be an exciting season with a whole bunch of new players set to make their debuts for respective teams. My standouts from each team at this stage would be;
Carey: Chancellor, Parker
Caulfield: Not sure who they have
Brighton: Roney, Davis, Walker, Graham, Singh
Geelong Grammar: Not too sure
Geelong College: Kitchen, Lugg, and a few other handy players
Haileybury: Rueben Wakefield, Max Wakefield, Pattinson, Williamson, Lynch
MGS: Shaw, Bett, Keath
Scotch: Grose, Clayton
StKevins: Griffiths, Hoppe
Xavier: Cross, not too sure who else
Wesley: Gairns

Brighton, Geelong and Haileybury have the most experience, but MGS look to have a few guns coming through the ranks. The rest will be very closely matched. Any suggestions?

Re: APS 1st XI 2007/08

Xavier, Geelong College and Caulfield in the bottom 5? Thats your credibility gone.

Shaw Kitchen is a freak. Along with Lugg and co will have Geelong contending.

Dave Astbury, Jack Ziebell, James Breen, Chris Axais and a bunch of gun 11s will have CGS challenging.

Sam Roney's a gun, a cockhead, but a gun. Throw in Davis and Walker and thats a decent lineup too for Brighton.

You say Scotch and Melbourne will finish 2 and 3 but you also say that neither have anyone apart from their number one player. You need more than one player if you are going to contend. Especially if the player is someone like Clayton.

Skevvies have a great team coming through as well with Wissell, Hickey, Hoppe, Griffiths and a score of others moving into year 11.

You were at least right about one thing. That is it's basically impossible for Haileybury to not win. With Patto, the Wakefield twins, Lynch and Williamson who had an awesome end to last season they can not possibly lose.

Oh dear me, maybe you should put in some research before you try to hang sh*t on CGS again, big SouthSwans will burn you every time.
