Australia in West Indies

This series used to be a real humdinger and I guess it has had its moments over recent years, although nowhere near some of the classics.

Both teams still in a period of consolidation, Australia probably more so than the Windies who will be looking to build upon recent improved performances. No Hayden or Clarke for the first test nor Gayle for the Windies, all eyes on Ponting and Chanderpaul as well as the newer recruits to the baggy green.

Regardless, Australia should still be favourites to win but I don't think a whitewash will be on the cards (famous last words!).

Re: Australia in West Indies

Squads:

West Indies (from): Brenton Parchment, Runako Morton, Ryan Hinds, Ramnaresh Sarwan (capt), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Devon Smith, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (wkt), Jerome Taylor, Daren Powell, Darren Sammy, Sulieman Benn, Amit Jaggernauth, Fidel Edwards.

Australia (from): Ricky Ponting (capt), Doug Bollinger, Beau Casson, Stuart Clark, Brad Haddin (wkt), Brad Hodge, Mike Hussey, Phil Jaques, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Stuart MacGill, Ashley Noffke, Andrew Symonds.

Look out for Benn (if he plays) as he appears to have the highest jump ever when approaching the crease! I mean, what is this all about (answers on a postcard please) - not bad for a spinner.

It should start in about 8 hours. I'd imagine you'd have to be up all night to watch the game.

Re: Australia in West Indies

What a start by the Australians and Ponting. What a way to hit back at the critics. Brad Hodge! Gun.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Don't get too excited about Hodge. :p He will have to score a double century to stay in the team when Clarke returns. If I remember correctly, he has been dropped even after scoring a double century previously.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Good on Punter for getting back into form, and doing what we all love him doing, racking up the tons. Australia in a really good position, good 50 by Hodge, hopefully he can go on and show what he can do.

And the reason the selectors dropped Hodge was because he plays to far away from his body to pace bowlers with balls outside off stump. They didn't want him getting found out by the South Africans, as they had just played a home series against them

And a 67 from Hodge.

You like Hodge don't you?? :p

It's a good showing from the Aussies so far but it's nice to see Edwards get a 5-fer so it's not all one way traffic (yet).

I'm a Victoria, any Victorian cricket deserves a test cap in my eyes.
Stereotypical Victorian!
Just listen to Bill Lawry, he'll tell you what a Victorian can do.
Personally, as a West Aussie, I couldn't give a flying who is in the team, just so long as they win

Re: Australia in West Indies

Whatever you say
But its going to take the spirit of a good Victorian to dig us out of this hole. Its time for Brad Hodge to stand up and be a hero. It is also a chance for Haddin to do a Gilly and get us to 500 odd

Re: Australia in West Indies

Lol I just tuned in to the highlights this morning and was shocked to see the scorecard. I think Australia can still win this game because they are 100 runs ahead. They'll probably be looking to extend it to 250-300 which should be sufficient. Symonds is the key I think. Havent seen much of Haddin but this is a great opportunity for him to announce his arrival.
