Australia in West Indies

Re: Australia in West Indies

I think that 100 odd run lead will be invaluble. The pitch seems to be getting harder and harder to bat on.
Haddin would like a good innings to build the confidence. He is a sensational batter, watched him in the Pura Cup final and was outstanding. I think Australia should still win this, but its not going to be a clear cut thing. Great fight by the Windies

Re: Australia in West Indies

The commentators on the radio said the pitch is actually getting easier to bat on, lol, doubt it's true though.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Well there have been a couple of collapses after the first day, which is what I based that on. I actually have no idea as to whether the pitch is getting worse. I think it is going to take spin like buggery over the next couple of days though, which should help Australia.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Yeah, I think Dave Hussey is a beast. He should be in the ODI team at least.

Windies are putting up a fight. I still think the Aussies will win though.

Re: Australia in West Indies

i think australia have a good enough lead on the board now. if they can stretch it to 350 then id say its game over for west indies.

Re: Australia in West Indies

287 is the target and they are already 1/40 odd, so Windies well on top. Good work by Symonds to lead that rescue, definitly needed. It might not be enough however, as the Windies seem to be cruising. Its going to take a special effort with the ball to win this Test. It is definitly going to go down to the wire

Re: Australia in West Indies

You never know with the West Indies. They can go down like a house on fire. But the target is not what Australia would have aimed for. If West Indies can get one big partnership, they'll be through.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Typical of West Indies. I knew anything above 250 would be enough for them. Their lineup is full of mediocre batsmen and only Chanderpaul stands out.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Oh, we're from Tigerland,
A fighting fury, we're from Tigerland,
In any weather you will see us with a grin,
Risking head and shin,
If we're behind then never mind,
We'll fight and fight and win.

For we're from Tigerland,
We'll never weaken 'til the final siren's gone.
Like the Tigers of old,
We're strong and we're bold.
For we're from Tiger yellow and black,
For we're from Tigerland.

Re: Australia in West Indies

I was reading the commentary on Cricinfo, and everyone was pissed at the amount of NSWelshman in the Australian team. There was a big arguement, till the writers eventually stopped posting the comments up. And it made me think, because as I said, I don't care where they are from as long as they win. Maybe it's because I didn't actually grow up in Australia so I didn't develop that identity, but it was quite interesting

Re: Australia in West Indies

Yep, Victorians hate SA's, NSW's and kinda the other states but mostly South Aus and NSW. But still, there a lot of New South Welshmen in the team that could easily not have been selected and replaced with plaeyrs from other states, ie Dave Hussey over Simon Katich, Dave Hussey and Hodge over Jaques, Cam White playing ODI cricket as a batsman.

Lots of people say, if Cam White was from NSW, he would be playing for Australia.

Re: Australia in West Indies

I'm not sure about Jaques for Hodge. He did what was necessary when the opportunity arose. Dave Hussey should be at least the ODI squad for a while. But the idea of a bias is stupid considering the selectors are made up of two Tasmanians, a South Australian and a die hard Victorian.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Good on the Kat, shown how good he really is. Good on Punter as well, part of the 10,000 club. Second fastest at that, now it's impossible not to say he is a genius with the bat. Clarke looking in good touch as well, even though he hasn't played in an age

Re: Australia in West Indies

I'm not expecting too much for Kat. If he makes a 50 in the second innings then I will be supporting his spot in the team, but if he fails, it will be history all over again. In international cricket he usually fails miserably with the bat and then makes a big score on innings just when his spot is starting to be questioned then fails miserably again. I'm very cautious this might happen again.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Yeah, but how many times has he come off a record breaking First-Class season? I think he is more relaxed because he knows his place is certain, for this series at least. He wasn't nervous and scrappy this time round and he knew he had time. I'm going to back him for the rest of the series

Re: Australia in West Indies

He seems to be playing with a lot of confidence and maybe he's finally cracked it? There will be sterner tests ahead but he is looking good at the moment.

Re: Australia in West Indies

It'll probably be him versus Chris Rogers come Post Ashes 2009 (when Hayden wants to retire), unless a youngster really shines (Phillip Hughes in particular). Hopefully he has cracked it, we really need some stability at the top for the rest of the series
