Geez .....a few of the "Boony" or "Boof Lehman" shape bodies at the club may find it a bit of a slog:p

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

the rumour mill is in full swing, another one to add to the list may be one of the custard cap boys off to a geelong club.....

Having great pre-season ideas to further skills and fitness are one thing but getting enough blokes there a couple of months out to make it worthwhile is another thing.

Can I ask how do all your sides go getting pre-seasons underway? We started in August in 2005, July under Matt Kelton in 2006 and then early August again last year and we've always found it is the same old-same olds who will turn up. A dozen or so is good numbers at that time of the year. Once net training starts later on it's ok but early work is almost hardly worth doing.

Fair enough if blokes are playing footy though.

Yeah Most clubs seem to start around August and you are right most would only get 15 max at that time of year. Due to lack of light its hard to get out into the nets but I reckon Sunday net sessions are good at that time of year and helps sweat out the beers from sat night and allows footballers to attend.

i heard a rumour that r.knowles was thinking about going back over to the combine and taking jason with him.

Apparently the hotdogs are of superior quality at the combine, than those served up at Brown Hill.

While the Combine would love to have J Allan playing for them this year, I would not think that they have no bowling options without him as they made two GF's without him (winning one - and yes I know the great Bambino had a lot to do with that, and is now no longer there.) The word that I have heard is that they have also decided on who they are going to have as coach.

who will they have this year, i heard that Hoey is thinking of not returning and S Allan may also notbe there. how can they deal with that?

Their ones are their strongest grade. I dont think their lower grade teams have been performing too well ?? I think they have as many Golden Oldies in their top 2 teams as we do so they will have to do the job:D.

Training is way over rated. If i had to train i would have retired years ago.

Well that is news to me. They were two options that I thought they had bowling wise. I understand that the young Leggie they have could develop into a handy bowler, but they will need to find a couple of quicks from somewhere.

its true, chris could develop into a good leggie in time. however, if he continues to strut about the place as if he is a 100 game a grader (when in fact he has played about 6), then he will go nowhere.

This is the best quote on this thread!!!

Training is always the same. nets & fielding. Do any clubs have any "out of the square" training methods

It was a long season for our young blokes and the idea was to get them enjoying themselves and enthusiastic for the last few training sessions by having a few laughs. Seemed to work too.

Unfortunately WIN TV turned up AGAIN as we were getting into it. You've got to change things up from time to time or else the boys will get sick of the same old nets and basic fielding drills.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Hey all

The cricket season is already long and a long pre season obviously only makes it longer. Guys who are less passionate about their cricket can get over it well before Christmas and performance starts to suffer and their attendance starts to decline. Have to realise that everyone had different reasons for playing the game and adjust accordingly, pre season usually consists of those who want to play in the higher grades and those who are great team blokes.

Focus for pre season should be like most other sports, physical conditioning (Aerobic endurance, strength, power and speed), core strength, flexibility, agility etc. You want to have a good solid fitness base to build from as you head into the season. Those blokes playing footy may have this already (but from past experience their is usually only a handful in each team who have sufficient conditioning). From my experience clubs leave a lot of the conditioning upto the individuals and people usually dont have the self motivation or the skills to do it properly. Also I think a lot of clubs and blokes dont realise the importance of fitness in cricket!!!

Pre season is also about getting the guys together, team building and focusing on the season ahead. Its always a challenge to get people to attend, but you need to sell the idea through a range of activities and through the overall benefits (to individual and club). If you know that it is always going to be the same old thing people resign to the fact and believe they have better ways to spend there time. I believe the actual cricket skills arent that important until about 4 weeks before the season, especially to those who have played for long time, strength and conditioning will have a far greater impact on overall team and individual performance.

If anyone wants some ideas in regards to strength and conditioning or activities for pre season you can contact me directly.....

Sorry for such a long virgin post, but I wanted it to be speeeecial....

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

A few changes that may occur. D. Fletcher is overseas and is thinking about the job at North Ballarat. Has been offered the position. R. Knowles considering rejoining combine. Will wait and see. If knowles leaves S giblett will not play at all. C. Banwell will only play a few games. If Fletcher leaves then Nicho to get job and a number of players to leave Mt Clear.
