Why don’t the BCA push out Coronet if they're as weak as you guys are saying (no disrespect meant) and perhaps move on Darley make it an 8 team comp play each other once in a 2 dayer and once in a 1 dayer, be more even, the good Coronet & Darly players would disperse making it a stronger comp. Make it compulsory to play 20/20 in a play each other once comp then a knock out Final 8, might even get those spectators along to watch.

Who will be the 10 captains's this year?

Why push out coronet and dont get me started on Darley CC's proud history. We aren't going anywhere and love playing BCA cricket. With a couple of very good cricket recruits signed at the lions den already (and training) this year the mighty lions are turning things around. With 5 years in the league we know what to expect and ready to roar.

With Steenholdt (premier cricket), Herring (Vic Country u/21), Barber (England) & Cape (premier cricket) you have genuine match winners and then parker, dawson, blake would all be firmly entrenched in other sides and very good country cricketers. Throw in a couple of recruits coming to the club and the depth is now there.

Start doing your homework boys because it isnt going to be an easy trip down the freeway anymore. Then we might really here people start sooking like ballarat redan beacuse they cant get the points.

haylesy wouldn't exactly be huge loss, ability wise!

Any players would be a huge loss when you are scraping the barrell to fill 4 teams each week. I think you are right stick in terms of our juniors. I think our problem in recruiting juniors is a lack of a geographical name such as Wendouree, Brown Hill etc. We just don't have any brand name out there in the community. People ask me all the time who I play for and when I say Coronet they say who??

I am a close relative of a member of the combine. I dont play, just follow the progress of B/redan and the BCA in general. Just thought it was interesting to see these Coronet players all gravatating to the one club.

What ever happened to loyalty for Clubs. In a competition like cricket, there is no money to be earned (unless you are a superstar or captain/coach) and you are going to have to face playing the blokes you have played with previously. I cant see why the Coronet players would want to leave. They have finally just started to take steps in the right direction through good leadership from players like Burnsy. Loyalty to stay and play with your mates is a huge test of character in my opinion, unless there has been a big falling out within the club. This is only my opinion.

That is spot on. 15 years ago when Naps entered the club comp we won just 2 games in 3 years in the firsts. Everyone stuck together and focused on junior development. We came in the same year as Coronet. They went on the recruiting drive, we went down the track of junior development. Easy to see what works and what doesnt.

We all know that there are some wannabe flogs in here. Meaning that some people are fans of these people and don't actually play. There are some flogs in here as well who do play and are so cocksure of themselves that it's purely not funny.

Naps are always going to do well with juniors because sebas is such a large area for one team. Our junior development died because of one former president having a disagreement with the locals at Invermay(a good area to develop juniors) Instead of resolving the issue he thought it was best to merge with Wendouree City and move to playing at the City Oval.Since the merger no team from Coronet City has ever made finals. enough said.

How can you dribble crap like that and question our character for leaving when you don't know s**t about why we left... I played senior cricket at that club for 20 years so what after that I can't leave to play with mates at another club... Don't you think it gets a bit old of playing and getting thrashed week after week cause your playing with 9 or 10 blokes in each grade... Or guys just don't bturn up the second week cause they decided to go to the beach... As for playing against the guys I used to play with there was nothing said other than a bit of harmless and amusing sledging...Unless you know the facts Don don't question my character and don't try to tell me what a great direction that club is going because I know what happened and why I left...

The reason the two sides merged was because niether of them would of been able to field four team each week and when it was done it took a lot of arguing to get it done... Trust me if we thought Wendouree City could of carried on alone we never would of merged... We still used the turf pitch at Invermay for about the first two years we were merged...

Dont give me the poor me act. You are not the only person that has been in a losing club before. But dont you think that if the club was able to hold on to the players that have fanned out over the past few years, the would be a much stronger unit??? As I said before, only my opinion, but i have gone through two whole years without winning a game before (not in cricket), but the group we were in couldnt have been closer and not one player considered leaving.
Yes i dont know the full details of what goes on at the club, and by what you have said in the above i would feel come in the category as a 'falling out' with the club but you guys that have played there for so long are the core. If you leave, what hope do they have. Do you not agree that they were on the improve last year?
This is also not a personal attack at people who have left to go to other clubs. I know plenty that have done so and are great blokes. But i just couldnt see myself playing against a team i have played with for so long. It just wouldnt feel right.

I hate to tell you this don but I feel somebody questioning my charcter as a
personal atack. As for playing against my old team mates well thats something that had to be done have you played all your football at the one club???

Coronets ones did have a better year last year than previous years but they still struggled to put full teams on the park in the lower grades so I don't know how much of an improvement the club as a whole had

Finally I know it might make me sound shallow but Saturday night at the clubrooms are a whole lot better after a win than they are after a loss and after 20 season I finally got to play Finals cricket. The big diference is that for the first time in a long time I can't wait for cricket season to start so I think the change in club worked out well...

I am not knocking you for leaving but you didn't really have a crack in the last 5 or so years you played at Coronet. Correct me if i'm wrong but you played mostly 4ths dominating and refused to play higher, you rarely trained and rarely were seen back at the club. In the early days when you played 2's it was different but by the end you had given up. So why did it take this long for you to leave?

Plenty of work to manage these though and we have heaps of people who assist with coaching (mind you im not one of them due to very poor fielding and batting ability) !!

Correct I did play thirds and fourths for about the last two and a bit years I played and the reason I did that was so I wouldn't have to train as for refusing to play higher as I have mentioned I didn't have the time to put in the work I thought I needed to play higher... With work, family and other sports I couldn't get to training so I had a slog and a bit of fun in the fourths because the captain of the team (thomo) asked me to play there and it worked out well for me being able to just turning up on a Saturday... I went back to the rooms after most games when we were up at POWP or the Regent/George years even if it was only for 10-15 minutes but not every week as with most guys but I did attend most club events... As for why it took so long to leave I'm not really sure but my mates that played at Redan were saying come have a hit here so I thought why not...

Correct me if i'm wrong but you played mostly 4ths dominating and refused to play higher, you rarely trained and rarely were seen back at the club. In the early days when you played 2's it was different but by the end you had given up. So why did it take this long for you to leave?

The reason the two sides merged was because niether of them would of been able to field four team each week and when it was done it took a lot of arguing to get it done... Trust me if we thought Wendouree City could of carried on alone we never would of merged... We still used the turf pitch at Invermay for about the first two years we were merged...

The real reason they merged was not that Coronet Invermay was struggling to fill 4 sides, we filled them easy, even had blokes missing out. We were actually contemplating a 5 side the season before the merger!
The real reason was totally as said before, the president had a personallity clash with the the invermay progress association on usage and financial matters, it didn't go his way so he decided to up the club and move, I seem to remeber the merge/leave Invermay vote being only decided by the slimest of margins, ie 2 to 5 votes the difference.I am also sure that no games for the merged club were played at invermay from that point.
It was the wrong merge we could have stayed put and let Midlands or Wendouree city fold and just picked up the better players. Myself and many ex Invermay players are positive that we could have at least picked up one maybe two 1st grade premierships had we stayed put at Invermay, but after the merge we got disheartened with the presidents views for the future and moved on to success at other fine clubs.

Hate to disagree with you there watcher but I played atleast two games of seconds at invermay under the merged club... One a Saturday-Sunday game where the second day was played on a wet pitch because it poured on the Saturday night and the wind blew the covers off... As for the reasons of the merger I have no Idea how many numbers you had but that was the arguement put to us that both teams were strugling...

Ok the reason we played games at Invermay was because the City oval the new home of Coronet City became unavailable due to athletics being held there during the upgrade of lamberris facilities. I'm pretty sure the Invermay ground was shared between Coronet and Lucas for 1 or 2 seasons as it was the only spare turf ground available not because it was our home ground.

I agree with watcher in terms of the numbers. We definately had 5 teams as lindsay slater was the 5ths captain.
