No it's not me but I would say to Capey don't get sucked in by anonymous morons trying to start a fight. I've been sucked in a few times and it leads to nothing good.

Ok Mike, tell us who the 7 or 8 are and tell us what issue they had with SteveO...

We've lost 7 or 8 of our best players in the last 2 years Mike, why has the question not been asked of us? Blokes have their reasons for leaving or having a year off, most of the time it has nothing to do with Captains or the clubs themselves. We're playing local cricket which for most blokes comes second to their lives off the field.

Here's some names and reasons of blokes we've lost in the past 2 years.
Chris Bambury, wanted a bit more of a challenge.....and some cash while he could still get it.
Matt Hoey, family commitments and living in Geelong
Brett Mason, family commitments
Jarrod Allan, shoulder injury
Simon Allan, travel
Simon McCartin, footy commitments
Ryan Knowles, back to Brown Hill.
I could probably go on but will bore most readers. In summary, most of the time it don't matter who your captain is, blokes leave.

Coronet are not the first team to name 10 for 1 day. Darley lost to us in 2006 when M Cape was a no show when batting on day 2. Also last year Mount Clear only batted 10 against us as Goonan was a known second day no show also.

i realise hoppy has been out of it a while and the first game was on carpet where you can make the ball do anything, but he was still sharp and dangerous last weekend. Not really what he once was but definitely still capable of taking big hauls..

you're forgetting oloughlin makes runs against hacks. he's a flat track bully. my old team mate ross fenton said he was a carpet specialist. front foot shots. get him caught in the covers driving. who does he get his hundreds against? i had him at 3 in my top 15 due to weight of numbers but who does he get them against?

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

First time reader, first time writer - gee good site you guys have on here, I'm no 1's player but like to keep an eye on things, so here's my 2 bobbs, for what its worth, I guess I'll cop a pasting though

Very true Mike, surprised to see Steve in the Top 10 bit old isn't he.

My Tips
East Ballarat over Ballarat/Redan
Wendouree will beat Napoleons/Sebastopol might be the Grand Final Preview, although the Pointy Heads might have something to say about that.
North Ballarat will get done by Mt. Clear
Darley will win outright against Coronet City
Golden Point over Brown Hill - could be one of those weeks for O'Loughlin you spoke of Mike

Best bats in the comp are nearly all at Wendouree, which why its hard to believe they haven't won a premiership, they're like the Bombers of the BCA...

how about another view on Mike's Top 15's - he did do a good job though:

BATS BOWLERS
1 Yates 1 Hopkinson (if actually playing, clearly the best)
2 Skinner 2 Johnson
3 Miller 3 Thomson
4 Irving 4 Cape
5 Steenholdt 5 Irving
6 Pyke 6 Moore (might move up the rankings after this yr)
7 Scott 7 Ash Ringin
8 Jenkins 8 Yates (also might move up the rankings)
9 Hasseloff 9 Corden
10 Jeffries 10 Delmenico
11 Dawson 11 Burns
12 O'Loughlan 12 Cations
13 Walter 13 Wheeler
14 White 14 Appleton
15 Gardner 15 Branch

Be interesting to see the country week teams this year, whether they'll keep the same coachs or not - or if a few of the players just take over, stange blokes those other two by the sounds.

What's happened with the umpires, no Jacobson this year?

Early EJ picks?? Maybe Pete Moore, or Matty Swards or maybe a smokey young Knowlesy

Hang on Mike, first you say he is a moron cause blokes leave the club because of him, you get taken to task on that anddon't come up with a rebuke. Instead you then change the subject, not exactly setting the world on fire with your argumentative skills here Mike...

As for who he gets runs against, I think you will find he scores pretty well against all sides. Maybe you could again back that statement up with some facts? Or maybe just change the subject again and ramble on about something else?

Geez i have left for a couple of weeks and its no longer pidge stirring the pot, its Mike. Anyway thought id add this. Mount clear players left in the last two years off the top of my head:
Rian Mckee - Overseas
Sam Mcvitty - Overseas
Glenn Collishaw - Overseas
Lincoln Blake - work commitments
Lincoln Stephens - work commitments
Leigh Kentish - work commitments
Dale Sidebottom - Trying his luck at a DJ career

All have or would play with us if they were back in the rat (except last maybe).

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Mike,

Still waiting for a reply to my posts on your insightful bagging of SteveO... nothing forthcoming?

To back up my claim that SteveO has made runs against good sides I checked his stats. For the record...

In the first XI he has two tons against Wendouree, one against Ballarat/Redan, one against Coronet City and at least four nineties, one yesterday against Brown Hill.

A century is a century, no matter how good or bad the opposition is you still have to be out there long enough to make one. If making tons was as easy as just turning up and playing against bad sides (as you suggest Mike) then there would be a lot more of them scored you would think, wouldn't you Mike???

If Mike would only tell us who he was so we could scrutinise his performances as closely as he has others in the A grade comp??

Yates, irving, hasseloff and gardner. mike reckons mr gay bar must be from east. he's guessing mark shaw maybe. and he's wondering why if age is the biggest thing to not have a bloke in the top 10, why have you got skinner, irving, steenholdt, jenkins, hasseloff, jeffries, oloughlan and walter in your top 13. that's 8 out of your 13, mark. mike thinks a lack of nous is probably why mark will never get in the top 30.

and steveb, come on. we did say brown hill were poor. there were runs to be had.

not many turn ups on the weekend probably apart from the bulls bowling the pointie heads out and the combine crumbling two weeks in a row.....any thoughts out there?
