I did read one of the articles that was in the courier. There was a old guy who was going to umpire his 200th match. Good stuff, but what about the younger brigade? Surely you would have plenty of youngsters who are interested in cricket umpiring.
Why don't you see if you can organise a website for the umpiring department? It might actually help you with the recruitment of people who want to take it up.
How the ******** did you get back on here you ********ing tard

Great work by Ron Bedford to get to 200 games. Great bloke and worthy of the recognition.

He got a clearance to North Ballarat at least 3 years ago and you could count the number of games he's played for us on one hand.
I heard that he was going to be back at Mt Clear again this year. Read it in the newspaper.

Really? The Courier must have expanded its horizons to report on 3rds and 4ths players now.

Mike wonders why you "experts" always overlook facts. he knows it's early in the season and the online stats are incorrect from last year coz you can add 100 more onto steenholt, yates, oloughlan, walter and pyke BUT:

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

thats the whole idea mike just trying to create some intrest and disscussion. Yates is probably stiff not to make it, moore if you can read is in the 13, not many bowlers can go 5 days straight, oloughlin no offense and im sure he would understand it probably a touch long in the tooth for country week, and appleton is a better spin option than parker. I don't see you naming you bca rep side.......

None taken, Edge. You are right. I reckon once you get to 31-32 (I'm 34) you don't recover so well. I know Apples is the same. Batting is fine as it is a mental game but recovering afterwards takes longer. It's like drinking. I take an extra day or two to recover these days. I have probably abused my body more than someone like Paullllll who is probably in better nick now than when he was 25.

Plus I reckon the Cook wouldn't be too keen on Father Bear leaving the boudoir and the kids for a week.

I hate bowling to Nate-Dogg Yates or Geoff Young. And Ash Ringin and Simon Irving make you work very hard.

WHEN it comes to playing cricket, North Ballarat recruit Tom Geddes is like a kid in a lolly shop.
He cannot get enough.

And the more he plays, the keener he is.

The talented 20-year-old all-rounder has wasted no time making his mark on the Ballarat Cricket Association firsts competition after moving from Daylesford Colts.

In just one and a half matches - he was unavailable for round two - his leg spin has seen him claim a three-wicket haul and get a half century.

What he wants most of all now is a win for North Ballarat.

Geddes had a summer to remember in 2007-08.

He was voted the Daylesford District Cricket Association best and fairest last summer and earned selection in the Central Highlands under-21 team.

With those achievements under his belt, Geddes thought the time was right to try his luck in the BCA.

He said he was eager to develop his game and take it as far as he could.

"I want to get more serious," he said.

Geddes is hoping he can play a major roll with the ball against East Ballarat to help North to its first win of the season.

However, he is unsure whether 203 runs is enough. East Ballarat resumes at 2-44.

"We're going to need quick wickets."

Geddes will also front up again tomorrow for Central Highlands in the opening round of the Victorian Country Cricket League under-21 championship.

Central Highlands meets Barwon at Geelong in the knockout competition.

Geddes is assured of getting plenty of work over the two days of this weekend, but as far as he is concerned he would not have it any other way.

* Ballan youngster Zach Graham is still pinching himself after claiming a hat-trick on the opening day of round four in the BCA's division four.

Graham appeared destined for a wicketkeeping career after spending his first season in the game behind the stumps in 2007-08.

It's a different story now.

He claimed 3-2 in three overs, with the wickets coming in his second over.

Although the 16-year-old plays with Ballan, he lives at Buninyong and attends Damascus College.

DARLEY has rocketed to the top of the Ballarat Cricket Association firsts ladder with a heart-stopping one-run victory over Wendouree at Darley on Saturday.
Andrew Pickett clinched the all-important first innings points against the previously undefeated Wendouree when he snapped up the wicket of Tim Miller with the visitors on 174.

Wendouree and Darley went into the third round as two of four unbeaten outfits.

The Red Caps led the competition, while Golden Point, Darley and Mt Clear made up the top four.

With Golden Point falling short against Napoleons-Sebastopol and rain having a say as Mt Clear and Ballarat-Redan played out a draw, Darley is now three premiership points clear at the helm.

Mt Clear is on its own in second ahead of Wendouree, Golden Point, East Ballarat and Napoleons-Sebastopol.

Rain-interrupted matches allowed Brown Hill, Coronet City and Ballarat-Redan to pick up their first points of the season.

North Ballarat was not so lucky though, as it was pounded by East Ballarat.

However, Darley's performance was the story of the day.

As far as Darley was concerned, it was almost the case of the match that got away.

Wendouree was on its knees at 7-87 in reply to Darley's 175, and only some fighting knocks by Grant Bell, Rob Delmenico and Rhys Cahir saw the tussle get so tight.

Resuming at 2-36, Craig Jenkins, 14, and Matt Skinner, 12, did not stay around long as Anthony Cape and Peter Moore sparked a middle order demolition.

Wendouree lost 5-36 with no one else able to sneak into double figures.

It was only when Bell hit 39 (4 fours, 1 six), and Delmenico, 39, that Wendouree was able to work its way back into the game.

Using up close to 30 overs, they put on 60 before Bell became one of Darley wicketkeeper Steve Riley's six catches.

This time with Cahir, 12, at the other end, Delmenico remained defiant as the gap closed.

It was to be Darley's day though, with Cape and More each picking up four wickets.

Darley batted out the day to finish on 3-46 in its second dig.

Napoleons-Sebastopol defended 7-236 with relative ease against Golden Point, which struggled to 211 at Napoleons.

Ash Ringin had a sensational start, claiming the wickets of Darcy Bradmore and Josh White in the opening three balls of the innings before a run was on the board.

Golden Point never really recovered.

It lost another two wickets at 31 and was little better when it lost a tenacious Brad Palmer for 38 to be 6-113 and already had Pete Appleton back on the sidelines for 36.

Nathan Bagley, 36, and Steven Tung, 28, provided a glimmer of hope with a 58-run stand for the seventh wicket, but then the loss of 3-6 sealed Point's fate.

Ringin took 3-31 from 17 overs.

A big Nathan Yates century ensured East Ballarat, 8-239, took the points against North Ballarat, 203.

East started the day on 2-44 at East High and with North Ballarat skipper Matt Cations toiling bravely, was in trouble at 5-88.

However, it was then that the imposing figure of Yates stepped up.

Spending 44 overs at the crease, Yates powered to an unbeaten 123 (13 fours, 4 sixes).

His first scoring shot was a six and then after reaching 80 smashed eight fours and a six as East went at almost seven an over for the last 10.

Cations finished with 4-84 off 21 overs, while Jarrod Burns took three wickets.

Mt Clear was on 4-145 in reply to Ballarat-Redan's 8-189 when stumps were drawn at the City Oval.

The Combine used six overs at the start of play to go from 5-160, with Shane Skontra taking his tally to 57.

Darren Fletcher led the way for the Mounties with 57 (5 fours, 1 six).

Rain meant Brown Hill did not get an opportunity to capitalise on its 8-262 at the Western Oval.

Coronet City, 5-90, was in strife when the match came to an end. Darrin Carroll was the mainstay for Coronet City with 31 not out.
