Having 18 grounds unavailable for round one is a joke and who wants to play cricket on a Sunday. Surely the council could have started top dressing a few of the grounds a month ago

i'd play every day if i could

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

no point top dressing the grounds if there is no water to help it grow!

plus i think at this stage of the year it may not be how hard the ground is but alot of the grounds have only just stopped being used by football. this tears the grounds up dramatically and the last thing you want is balls flying around your head from holes everywhere!

oh well now you know what it feels like during the footy season when there are no grounds that can host footy matches.
It is the water restrictions that cause the problem. However we need them other wise we won't have any water ourselves.

im not saying all the ground and i play footy to so i do know what is is like but surely the grounds that weren't being used for finals could have been prepared for footy as soon as the season finished

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

at the same time alot of grounds that wernt being used for finals were still being trained on eg: White Flat - Golden Point Juniors

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

you cant train around the pitch area im all for footy dont get me wrong but there are ways to work around it all so that the ovals can be right to go at the start of both seasons

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

the pitch area isnt the problem

these ovals outfields are to dangerous to play on

if you look at the ovals that are being played on this week it seems that only 4 or 5 were used for football

in the water situation we are in its obviously very hard to bring an oval up for cricket in even 4 weeks

Do you particularly want to get serious injuries happen to your players? Because that's what will happen because the grounds are too hard to play footy and cricket on.
Use your brains mate. I know you are pissed off because of this happening but really grow up and use your brain.

the ovals are softer and have more grass coverage than this time last year yet we have less ovals ready for use. so using your brain tell me why this is the case!!

Grass coverage does not make it safe champ

That's not safe mate. If you have got a hard surface say like Maddingley Square in Bacchus Marsh you will have players sliding and injuring themselves. You have to remember that worksafe and the local councils are working together on this.
Occupational Health and Safety is the way to go here. Not by novices like you who don't know or don't care about the grounds. Just put up with it and stop complaining about it.

FFS even the City Oval isn't safe enough to be used. The only ground that can be used would have to be the Eastern Oval. Although that could be chopped up and dangerous as well.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

I have never said that safety isnt important!! I am just wondering what the difference is this year compared to last year, grounds are in better condition than this time last year yet we seem to have more grounds out of action.

the City oval was a disgrace last year it was like playing in a field of dust yet cricket was still played there

Trust me it won't be. It is worse than ever. It is rock hard.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

i think if you could rememer correctly back to last year you would find that the grounds are in fact worse condition than ever before. there isnt a single oval in ballarat that top level cricket could be played on, not north, not the city, not the eastern

They're worse now. Most of them are out of action

If we play on them now we do two things. 1 being getting blokes injured from potholes, and 2 we chop the ground up more so it has no time to recover for the rest of the season and then leading into the next. A few weeks rest considering the last couple of years' weather is not too much to ask of us.

I think the grounds after Christmas last year are much worse than they are now too. The city oval was the worst ground i have ever seen and wendouree wasn't far behind.

I think you'll find that it more dangerous when we are forced to play in wet conditions because the umpires wont abandon the game because they want to get paid.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

the only reason the city oval and wendouree arent played on at the moment is because of the time it takes to get a turf wicket up, not with the siuation of the outfield.

ballarat cricket will play omn whichever turf ground no matter the outfield, as long as the wicket is ready

i know that. The point I was trying to make is that ground such as white flat and alfredton couldn't be in any worse shape than the likes of wendouree and city oval last year. It must be just that they are being repaired at the moment.
