It appears Darley and Mt Clear have some tension to release. Luckily other teams such as mine don't have to trap talk.
The way I see it is as follows:
Darley have recruited well and Mt Clear are on top at xmas.
Don't forget boys there are 7 other teams in the competition, it's not just about the big heads at Mt Clear or the pretenders at Darley.

No your totally right Hammertime!!!!!!!there are other sides in the BCA...

Can someone tell me is there any pre requisites for a club playing in the top division...As from what i can see there is not!!
Dont want to be controversial but from what i can see how many clubs dont actually have their own ground that has a turf wicket, clubrooms and decent facilities????
Surely this should come into consideration...

What i would suggest going back to Waka05 comment about a new structure, i would only have teams playing in the top division that can provide the facilities...Maybe there is not enough clubs with this but surely if the BCA wants to become stronger and attract better players then this is something that htey need to do, its the 1%ters!!!!PLaying cricket is about playing it hard on the ground but as soon as the game is finished you have a shower an go in and have a beer with the opposition at present this cant be done at most clubs......
Your thoughts are welcome..

Copper you raise a valid point as do you Double Barrell.
Did anyone catch a look at the Country Week Squad, something I have rarely taken interest in, but for christ's sake are the selectors any chance to big a side that contains the best players.
I nearly choked on my breakfast Saturday when I read the courier and saw some of the names.
I assume Fletcher is being played as a spinner??, surely the comp as a specialist spinner to bowl before him.
From all reports he just rolls the Bambury's down the wicket.
Thoughts??

no point blaming the selectors champ. they can only pick the players that make themselves available. at least this years side is a hell of a lot better than last years.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

As it is nearly Christmas, the Wise Man has suggestions for what Santa could bring the clubs in the BCA ...

Ballarat-Redan:
A heavy roller so that there cannot be any assistance to the bowlers of the opposition teams. That should allow them all to play like the cowboys that they are.
Brown Hill:
Some top order batsmen that can handle the heat in the kitchen. Maybe some middle order batsmen and some able hitters in the tail.
Coronet City:
Santa's already given them a couple of wins this season. This should be enough to keep them going for another couple of years.
Darley:
A decent spin-bowler, that Parker is a joke ... has anyone seen him turn a ball in the comp yet? Some consistency wouldnt go astray for the boys down the highway.
East Ballarat:
Maybe santa can bring them a kickboxing to the head. Might knock out some of their arrogance. We can only hope!
Golden Point:
How long can Josh White carry that team. He is 20 years old and the only positive at the club. Maybe some assistance for him from santa.
Mt.Clear:
Some attacking form of captaincy and cricket, their own ground which could include changerooms, a loss in the grand final.
Naps/Sebas:
Fly spray, flies are ******** at their home ground.
North Ballarat:
Bowlers and batsmen required to salvage any kind of respect.
Wendouree:
Some runs for their batsmen and they could well be the team to dethrown mt.clear after christmas.

Hope Santa brings some joy to your club!

Excellent post Wise Man!

Hopefully all of the clubs got what they wanted/needed.

A couple more gifts which wouldn’t have gone astray would be:

Ballarat/Redan:
A violin and tissues for Greg Wakeling.

Brown Hill:
Some bowlers would be handy, as would some batsman, in fact anybody would be good.

Mount Clear:
Clubrooms, toilets, a home ground and a positive attitude.

Fletcher will probably struggle at Country Week given that he won’t be allowed to have 6 fieldsmen on the leg-side as protection for his leg stump darts. He might have to take a few blokes of the boundary as well which I’m sure he won’t be used to.

Hammertime who would have you picked as the spinner for the Country Week side?

I can't really comment "Gospel" as I haven't been playing in the comp for long. In saying this though, the spinners in comp are as follows
Nth Ballarat-Draffin
Golden Point-Steve O'Loughlin
Ballarat/Redan-Ronald McDonald
East Ballarat-Thorne, Ryan
Darley-Parker
Mt Clear-Fletcher, Goonan....................Nicholson
Wendouree-Webb
Naps-Branch

Who would you pick??

Nice one Gospel, I'll bite. Any chance Santa brought you a sack with the balls to say it to my face? Obviously another Darley supporter far enough away to throw a bit of mud without fear. Either that or my old mate Stevie O.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Seasons Greetings all. Just a few points as it's hot, I'm inside and I'm bored:

- Sorry to disappoint Gregory but I'm far from wise - thus I'm no Wise Man. And why does everyone get stuck into you on this forum?

- HammerTime - please apologize to all spinners. I'm a hack medium-pacer. Never spun a ball in my life. You're probably confusing me with Pete Appleton who is clearly the best spinner in Ballarat.

- To the Mountie bashers, BCA decks have been flattening out for the last 10 years and you can't blast sides out (unless you're at Naps) so it's become a war of attrition. He who laughs last laughs hardest!

- Double Barrel - come for a walk through our rooms down at the Eastern Oval. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

- Cobber14 is right. I know down at Point three of us who were asked to train for Country Week declined as work, kids and cricket widows make it too hard to commit. Pete Moore will do well though.

- WiseMan. The BCA is far from the strongest comp in Country Vic. It probably was from 87-91 or even 1993 when I played with Neil Lee, Phantom LeLievre and Rob Orr and against Brewer Brady, Horse Coxall, Phil MacFarlane, Jason Yean, the three Hynes boys, Thompson, Peter Cartledge, Rossy Ferris, the Leach brothers, Big Grundell from Wendouree City, Peter Dredge, Steve Hunt, etc, but not now. (No wonder I spent the majority of the 1990s in the seconds!) Also, Whitey is 19. Appleton is a great player, and Moore is not far off him.

For your attention, Oh Wiseness:

Hi,

SteveO, Just a quick question, how does Luke Whinney from Ballarat/Redan not feature on that list?
My understanding is that he has about 200 runs (missed 1 game) @ approx 50.????

quite easy, steveo quoted off dippers website. that only has results for those clubs that are prepared to submit their results via the website. so those bloody lazy clubs that cant be bothered doing it that way are not included in those stats.

Still doesnt make sense to me, why would Cameron Landry be included on that list if you are suggesting that Ballarat/Redan are lazy and havent posted results???

That sook "Waka05" tells me his club definitely post scores on Website ..the man himself doing all the work

For the record L Whinney 194 runs in 4 hits

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

G'day there. The new online system for submitting results to the BCA does not become compulsory until next year. Therefore, clubs like Mt Clear, Brown Hill, and by the looks of things, Redan will only have results posted there if other clubs are submitting using Dipper's software. If Luke's stats aren't there then whoever submitted them, i.e. Greg or Redan's opponent when they are the away team, have buggered them up.

And having submitted them, it is probably lazier to submit details online as manually writing them out is a chore. The drop-down menus are great.

Thanks for that SteveO, seems like if used properly, the submitting of match details online could be quite painless and maybe more detailed.

Another interesting fact.
Parker has taken 11 wickets and Andrew Blake from Darley has taken 12
Seems the so called stats aren't as accurate as first thought

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

As we've all been saying, the new online system for submitting results to the BCA does not become compulsory until next year. So either you blokes aren't submitting your results or your opposition hasn't. If Darley haven't, I'd recommend you fire up that old Commodore 64 and get on it. It's dead easy. If you do already then encourage your opposition captain to get on board.

SteveO is correct... Association Reports on the website mean nothing until all clubs are submitting through the same method (hopefully 08/09). Currently Association Reports are only updated for matches where they have been submitted by the winning team.
