Just give us a spell on the golden boy, its clear hes not a bad bat, and its also clear your in love with the lad, but just remember this.... V. east he ALMOST won point the match, single handedly off his own stick, however he was the last man out and subsequently LOST the game off his own stick.... get your tounge out of his cherry for 5 minutes and you may make something of yourself.

I am more amused with the fact that since Mr Bowling Machine copped a lot of crap, we haven't heard from him.
I would love to be at Darley Park on the weekend.
I reckon those boys will give it to him

Here's an interesting/pointless statistic. I've just copied and pasted every post on this forum up to The Don88's last one into a word document and it's taken up 411 pages!
Now I have the fun task of sorting through them and picking out some useful points to take back to the BCA to make some changes.

Not sure how many blokes on this site have much of a say around their respective clubs, SteveO you're about the only one off the top of me noggin and maybe Irv, but do you guys think it would be worth me putting something out there to all BCA clubs to put forward their suggestions on how to change/amend/tweak the competition as it stands? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Reckon there are some reasonable ideas amongst some of those posts waka - apart from the all one dayers - good for big hitters like you mate, but not for the slow, steady opening batsmen!! Like the idea about the 2020 weekend with perhaps a couple of night matches if the lights are good enough. Having a BCA media liason rep would be a good start to get the local paper, radio and tv pumped about such an event.

What about a players survey to be completed by players from all clubs to get an idea about what guys are after - results could then be presented to the BCA. Could cover many of the issues that have been raised.

In a nutshell, ultimately country week is won by the players. We need to get an attitude of committment and desire to play and win - just because we want to achieve something big. Player payment would be great, but you'd think the BCA would need to see a committment from the players to win the thing.

Staying in Melb is terrific, and the way to go to build morale. If we do stay down though, need to recognise that sport has moved on from the 1980's and set a team curfew and set our priority as winning games of cricket.

Would they pay any attention to a player survey? If you think they would i think it is a great idea but i can't see them listening to players when they don't listen to presidents are there "presidents meetings/lectures"

How is Jacob Branch not in the country week squad? He is a terrific young bowler and a great guy to go with his natural ability.....

i dont play with branchy but i know him well enough. he is a different cat, confident (arent all young blokes in their early 20's) & may not be everyones cup of tea, but slagging him like that behind a fake name is as weak as p*ss...

keep hiding, the last thing you & the rest of the eastie lads need, coming into finals, is having to face some of these point, naps etc blokes you are having a crack at. may come back to bite you. & irv wonders why after all their recent success, east are still fighting for some respect:eek:

Nice one Carpet Licker, I reckon a media rep is a top idea.. I know back in the Kenny Hill days, blokes from other sports (that I won't name) used to pretty much write articles for him and email them, meaning all Ken had to do was write his name at the bottom.. Razor sharp journalism!!!

The Ballarat Cricket's media coverage is average at best.. if we took a page out of other sports books and actually crammed stories down their throat (by means of a Media Rep) might do some good!!

I'd be very interested on some of you young blokes' opinions on this very point. Irv, myself and a few other 30-somethings who've won flags have been discussing this.

Why are "all young blokes in their early 20's" so ultra confident, cocky and mouthy? I know it's different to footy where you can get filled in if you talk too much ********, and if you've managed to do alot at a young age then you may be entitled to have a word or two (such as Matt Hoey winning the Cleary as a young bloke years ago), but it doesn't seem to matter much these days.

Matty Kelton told me last year he couldn't believe the amount of rubbish younger Ballarat cricketers would go on with without having backed it up with personal or team results. And he'd played one-dayers for South Australia so I'm tipping he'd heard it all.

A sensible insight would be appreciated because it's got me, and many others, and umpires, absolutely stuffed about where it comes from.

In all honesty i am being quite sincere on this one..... I truly believe branchy has the potential to be the next Harbajan Singh in terms of his bowling.... and the potential to be the next Kevin Federline in terms of parading around like a black man.

no idea steve, as im in your bracket (as in, not in my 20's). i reckon its just a direct reflection of todays society. most young people (girls included more & more), just seem ultra-confident. alot have no respect, not just for older people, but even towards officialdom (ie cops). but this is perhaps getting a bit deep for a cricket forum.

Quite simple i believe here... Pack mentality. Take Naps as the perfect example. As a side they are a relatively young grounp, branch, sandwith and banwell are the three 'chatters' that instantly spring to mind. They simply feed off each other. If one yaps, they all yap and so it sets the tone for the rest of the game. All sides seem to have a mix of 3-4 guys in late teens early 20's who like a yap, its the way society has come. It is also alot easier in a game of cricket to have a good dig at someone without fear of physical retribution as in football....

What qualification gives you the licence to go ahead and have a few words? Obviously guys in their 30's like yourself, irv and a few others who have proven themselves over the years and put the hard yards in should be treated with some sort of respect when they take the field and in turn should, when the time calls for it, have a little word in a batsmans ear if things arent looking too bright for him. As for the 20 somethings, does qualification include league representitive sides? Regional rep sides (central highlands)? or is it simply a matter of making a ton or taking a few wickets and then going for broke? Is it playing in the district comp, regardless of what grade of cricket?

I have an opinion on this but will wait until a few more have their say....

Finally though, talking sh** for the sake of talking sh** is crap, grow up and and get creative, if your going to have something to say make it insightful and at the very least humourous. We could all do with a laugh out there regardless of whos expense it is at.....

- Should i sign this off as 'Carrie Bradshaw'???

Not that its any excuse Sven, but would the older, so called "wiser" heads be any influence? Young blokes following the lead.......lets see:

East young blokes following the likes of Simpkin or Thompson for that matter.
Mt.Clear learning the ropes from say a Jeffrey
Naps filling the big steps of a Leech
And in days gone by Redan being influenced by dare I say it, Bambury?
etc etc

Thoughts?

If you talk the talk you have to walk the walk. Otherwise you look like a fool which most of these kids are.

You earn respect and most of the guys spruiking/mentioned have none.

Very funny seeing older players go at it. Fletcher didnt like playing against Darley this year. Not personal but disintegrated mentally and gave it right back in a classy way. Loved watching it.

A point for you waka05. Just have the saturday/sunday game for the 1st XI and make the lower grades a one dayer this week. I can see headaches at selection for all clubs this week.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

On the issue of sledging. Every cricket league you play in or at any level is going ot have sledging. Yes some people in our comp who have played for a number of years and performed over that time may have the right to a little more respect in terms of sledging however they wil still cop it like everyone else.
I take a different view of it and that when young blokes like Branch or other in the same mould (ie: like a chat) knowing like SteveO said that they really havn't backed it up for years and i just have a good laugh about it. You are going to get sledged anyway so put it back on them and have a laugh i rekon.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

My tips for this week:

Darley vs Golden Point : Even without Moore they will still win. The wheels have fallen off at Lion land.

East Ballarat vs Mt Clear : Match of the round. Fitness could be an issue for the mounties but they have too much variety.

Ballarat/Redan vs North Ballarat : North wont win for the year (Best chance though).

Napoleons/Sebastopol vs Coronet City: Naps look to be hitting there stride at the right time

Brown Hill vs Wendouree : Too strong of a team against the Hill. Hill will give it eveything though, their season is on the line.

Thoughts???

How is Jacob Branch not in the country week squad? He is a terrific young bowler and a great guy to go with his natural ability.....

The spinners at Country Week are Parker, Nicholson and Fletcher.

In all seriousness do you think any of these are better than Branch???

Parker & Nicholson bowled well at Country Week last year. Fletcher is a bonus due to his batting. The spinners usually rotate each game.

Branchy could be the Earl of Twirl of the BCA for all I care, but solely on principle I wouldn't pick him. He barely turns up to training at Naps and when he does he is a disruption.

And in days gone by Redan being influenced by dare I say it, Bambury?
etc etc

Thoughts?

This cracks me up. Having a go at the 'cocky' 20 year olds who haven't proven anything. SteveO I remember when we used to play against you in your younger day and you were a just a mouthpiece. No results. spent most of the time in the magoos when Kleiny was captain then have only really started doing anything over the last 2 seasons.

Now when it suits, after you have berated your own team mates over many years, flying off the handle at any moment, take the high morale ground wondering why these up and comers are smart ar***.
