My 2 cents...

A Grade final, One of the better games of A grade cricket Ballarat would have seen. Took me back to the 2000/01 final between Mt Clear and Golden Point, which was an equally exciting match, for everyone who was there what a final day!. I thought the crowds were solid, people have mentioned they were poor, but realise this game went for 4 days midday to 5:30, I think the accumulative crowd over the 4 days would have been quite a good number.

Hats off to the Naps and Mt Clear boys, played in great spirit which unfortunately was over shadowed by some battlers in the crowd, We can all handle crowd abuse, the creative people often are quite funny sometimes. But some of the dribble that came from the Naps hill was sometimes really personal and just another reason why cricket in ballarat has had a poor image in recent times. Just on that it was only 2 or 3 blokes though. Dont want to cast a blanket over the club.

I took part in the game, and want to make it known that the relationship between the teams in my opinion was fantastic. of course there was a winner and a loser, but once the initial celebration was over I couldn't count the amount of beers, shots, lay backs, straight arms and god knows what else I had with the Naps boys, pretty much all day on Monday. They have really shown to be a great bunch of blokes and good luck to them next year.

There is no doubt Mt clear are in a good place for the future, such a tight group of blokes, will be broken a little next year, but I have never been part of a team with such a strong bond ever before, would go to any length for any bloke on that team... Even get a tattoo :) What an amazing thing to be apart of.

Lastly it also should be known that Ballarat cricket is on the up. I had messages from half a dozen rival players during the GF what fantastic blokes. You wouldnt read about that a couple of years ago, with the Country week success and the way players have really come together this year I can only see goodness in years to come. Im not saying its all a big happy family, you never want that, still needs to have competitiveness, but they way players have lightened up and kept things on the field this year in my opinion has been exactly what this town and cricket community has been calling out for.

From a bloke who wont be back for a while keep up the great work Boys.

Fair to say a couple of our lads where a bit exited at times and where appropriate were asked to tone it down but it is impossible to police.

in ground breaking ballarat cricket news, ive heard that the greatest frontrunner in the history of the BCA, naffan clarke is leaving the corra & heading to the breeding ground for f*ckwits Lucas.....not getting another chance to play against this worthy opponent is enuf to give the game away!!!!!!!!!!:D

Now Mr Whinney, obviously you are the number 1 choice for the combine and after that Shane Skontra

hahaha, no I'm not Luke. I thought Luke advised yourself, Greg and I think Gary Slattery also who I am. I am "jedi" so that the B/redan boys thought it was Luke. Only related, not as hooked up on Starwars as he is. hehehehe

Yes Luke has advised me he would love to have a crack as the combine's skipper, but he told me that he thinks a few blokes wouldnt want him in, they would want someone who has been at the club longer. Can you confirm this shakes?

Luke did say Skontra would be good too actually, and also mentioned S.Allan but thats about it (apart from Brett Jones).

Yes well I have heard the rumour. He won't be cleared. if the BCA rules state 3 years service must be given to a club then he shouldn't be cleared either.

His brother put in for a clearance to Lucas and got knocked back from Naps so they are both probably heading there next year.

Right on the money Jedi. I haven't heard any unhappiness from players about Luke doing it but they may not tell me cause i am good mates with him.

i know S.Allan wants to do it but the club don't think he is ready yet so it was suggested that he serve as vice under Luke.

I haven't heard whether Skontra has expressed interest in the top job but doubt that he would due to his involvement with the North Bllarat Rebels so if Lynchy doesn't want the job, Luke should get it ( i also heard a rumour that Lynchy had named Luke as his successor)

You obviously are very well involved down there Shakes so you may have more clue than me, but I only hear 2nd hand through Luke.

He has a lot of respect for Simon and Jarrod Allan, Paul Aikman and after playing with Skontra this year, he developed it for him also.

He just told me he wants BRCC back competeting finals again NEXT YEAR, and he wants to lead they way. Mind you, I bet the other 9 clubs are setting sites on a top 4 finish also.

he did it for one game last year and the buzz around the boys was he did a very good job, i hope that comes into consideration when they decide.

mind you i haven't heard anything first hand from sean saying he does not want to do it so he is still a chance to back up next year

The rumour mill is already flying with one being heard the other week that the great bam bam may be back in ballarat next year, but not at the combine, the rumour has him perching himself in at the roosters nest.....dissapointing for the target heads if johnson does go, leaves a big gap, also with the possibility of miller, dixon, mayne being capable to go down to the big smoke. D Knight being in his 40's. May be a changing of the guard at the target heads...????

Don't know who your sources are fellas, but I can confirm that we have not (and do not plan to) speak to Bam Bam. Hoppy was mooted to have been making a return in the magoos after christmas this year but it did not happen. Personal issues were initially the cause of his spell, and as far as I know things haven't changed too much.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

gday fellas, im new to this forum and just after after a few blokes opinions as to what wud be a good club to play for in the bca, as i will be playing there as of next year. down from the premier league so yes i am a quality player and will be up there with the better players in the league, id imagine, but then again i have no idea of the standard of this league. i do have a few conditions though however, due to my work committments i will only be able to train probably once every couple of weeks and will be looking for a captains position, aswell as some small remuneration, for my travel cost, playing time etc. i have quite a cricketing resume so some thorts from some of you boys about any accomodating clubs would be much appreciated

We at North are definitely on the look-out for a quality player (or 5  ) and Premier League experience is always a bonus. However I would hesitate to say that training once every couple of weeks may hurt your chances to be captain (at any club I would have thought). Also a lot of clubs like to appoint captains from within as a reward to those who have been loyal to the club, with the exception normally being captain-coaches as they're (coaches) the only people according to the BCA who can receive renumeration.

To give you the full picture, we are in a rebuilding phase with a lot of young talent being blooded and the future looks bright for the club. We also offer arguably the best training and social facilities of any club in the BCA.

I'm sure North would like to talk to you as we do not discriminate (unless you're the Phil Hunter that owes us money), and that goes for any player, in Club or District (or outside), that would like to take up the challenge. If you are interested please private message me your contact details and I will get our Recruiting Department to give you a call.

I seriously think you guys are only one or two decent players away from making the 4. 1 good bat and 1 good bowler will help take the pressure off Burnsy, Wheeler etc and Carroll isn't getting any younger either. I actually admire Coronet for turning the corner and it is great that it has been done with players who have been loyal to the club for many years. I wish your boys every success in 2008-09.

1 thing i am impressed about tho, is that you obviously fell in love with yourself at birth & have remained faithful to yourself ever since, & loyalty is a rare commodity in todays soceity, so stick with it champ!!!!
