Hate to disagree with you there watcher but I played atleast two games of seconds at invermay under the merged club... One a Saturday-Sunday game where the second day was played on a wet pitch because it poured on the Saturday night and the wind blew the covers off... As for the reasons of the merger I have no Idea how many numbers you had but that was the arguement put to us that both teams were strugling...

Ok the reason we played games at Invermay was because the City oval the new home of Coronet City became unavailable due to athletics being held there during the upgrade of lamberris facilities. I'm pretty sure the Invermay ground was shared between Coronet and Lucas for 1 or 2 seasons as it was the only spare turf ground available not because it was our home ground.

I agree with watcher in terms of the numbers. We definately had 5 teams as lindsay slater was the 5ths captain.

Now that was a crazy old bloke... never wore batting gloves but then again I never seen or heard of him getting hit on the hands when he was batting in a game or in the nets....

The real reason they merged was not that Coronet Invermay was struggling to fill 4 sides, we filled them easy, even had blokes missing out. We were actually contemplating a 5 side the season before the merger!
The real reason was totally as said before, the president had a personallity clash with the the invermay progress association on usage and financial matters, it didn't go his way so he decided to up the club and move, I seem to remeber the merge/leave Invermay vote being only decided by the slimest of margins, ie 2 to 5 votes the difference.I am also sure that no games for the merged club were played at invermay from that point.
It was the wrong merge we could have stayed put and let Midlands or Wendouree city fold and just picked up the better players. Myself and many ex Invermay players are positive that we could have at least picked up one maybe two 1st grade premierships had we stayed put at Invermay, but after the merge we got disheartened with the presidents views for the future and moved on to success at other fine clubs.

That President wouldn't now be a senior coach by any chance - if so how do you reckon North will look in 5 yrs given they already are beginning to struggle.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Was not aware of the details behind the Wendouree City / Coronet Invermay merger. Interesting reading. The City always had a very competitive 1st XI and when they were up and going, had the wood over a lot of clubs in the BCA. Coronet Invermay were the envy of many clubs with the new club rooms and facilities they built years ago. Seems like they had the best of both worlds but it all went down hill. Would be a real Cinderella story if they can get a few grades in the finals this year.

North will be fine as long as the coach sticks to just that, coaching!
If he sarts sticking his 2 bob's worth in to the committee of management and financials of the club, it could be a different story.

On Norths new coach, Just can't see why a bloke would get a club to the big dance only to go home alone, then leave?

I myself would have a feeling that I had not delivered on what I had promised or a feeling of un-fullfillment that I had not completed the job I was employed to do!!

Any thoughts on the subject guys? It puzzles me.

after speaking with both coaches involved an naps, they decided that it would be their last year of coaching together. they wanted to put naps back on track which i believe they helped greatly in doing.

they said they would leave if there was nothing more to teach the guys, and if they knew that it was being left in safe hands. i have not heard who is taking over at naps, does anybody know who will coach/captain at nappers next season?

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Knowing hammer I'm guessing all the guys at north will be perfecting the hammer drive which as anybody who knows pete huntly knows the hammer drive is the outside edge over the slips hammer plays it better than anybody...

Dash collins is a top bloke and I think he will do well at wendouree already has a pretty fair team to work with there.

It has been confirmed that coaching nappers next year will be Paul Clark. Some of you may remember him from Point a few years back, but more impressively he was the captain/coach of Ringwood 1st XI Premier league side during the 90's. Paul brings years of experience and valuable insight from his time as a top premier league batsmen and captain.

Seems to be the perfect bloke to pick up from where pete and dash left us last season. Definitely a very positive buzz around the club, with a practically unchanged line-up, the boys are definitely looking to go that 2 runs further this year.

Old Seldom is heading out to coach you blokes. Different sort of fella. He was a bowler and middle order bat.

If it is the Paul Clark that I know from umpiring I know that he is a great bloke to have as coach.
He came from Melbourne.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Paul Clark at Naps. Good move. Is good mates with the Bambino. Naps and Bambino that would make a good fit. Any other appointments any where? Has Fletcher committed to Mt Clear yet? Heard he is still thinking of leaving?

Old Seldom doesn't sound like much of an endorsement, would he add value to place like Napoleons. Surely they'll struggle this year, after last year’s aberration.

How good are those Sainters, the two Nick's bloody awesome - they're back!!! @|

Nah Cob. No beef at all. He played in a flag with us in 2001-02 and is a top bloke. Big unit and shrewd cricketer.

He wasn't one to turn up to club nights and we had team meetings on the Friday night before the semi against Mt Clear then before each week of the big one against Wendouree and he just never turned up. Hence, Seldom.

We never saw him again after the flag. We qualified him for the finals and he'd never played in a premiership before so it was disappointing that he never played again. We would have loved to have had him for another 5 years. A genuine matchwinner.
