Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

346 on or less than a par score on east high against wendouree? anyone.
I'd say it is defendable but east might struggle to hold them back. could be an interesting one.

I'd put the game at fifty/fifty. Great deck when we played at East, quick onto the bat. Wickets in hand at tea will be the key.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

I wouldnt count out Dean "Gibbo" Waugh making a late charge.

4 large innings a row may get him at least 9 votes. Go the red heads.

3rd X1 East Ballarat Vs Wendouree at Russell Square 2
Wendouree 4-665 off 80 overs!
What an absolute ass raping!
Anyone at the game wanna shed some war stories?
Can anyone confirm if this is a BCA record?
I was told Kosloff batting at 5 made his 218 not out coming in at the 60th over.

kosoff 218 of 70 odd balls, last 100 coming off 29 balls
One must wonder who was bowling. I know its a small, quick ground but surely a "9 on the fence" approach should have been implemented.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

I played in this game for East & bowled the last over of the innings to him.
He hit the biggest six I'd ever seen at Russell Square (just missed the roof of a house across the street) & probably whacked at least 2-3 sixes per over minimum!
Put it this way, in their entire innings there was a boundry every 2nd ball.
To be fair we had a side of teens bar me, Moekette & Voight, but all credit to Wendouree - it was a "skyshow"!!

I heard that some of the Wendouree players had to mill in front of one particular house as the owner was getting a little distressed. I believe he said words to the effect of "...if one more ball hits my house, you're not getting it back..".

Predictions:

Mt.Clear v Brown Hill - Time for mounties to give other clubs a go, you've had your success!!!

Target Caps v Custard Caps - Target caps to win and beat there semi final curse, if they don't then surely blokes will simply choose another sport!

Mt.Clear vs Brown Hill - You can never have enough success

Wendouree vs East - Wendouree has a stronger bowling attack and East did have the best of the conditions last week. However it is that time of the year though so who knows.

Finals time so another chance for me to bang on about my favourite old chestnut. Why is a coin toss used to decide who bats or fields first. So much can be decided by a coin toss. When will common sense prevail and the team that finished higher on the ladder gets to choose whether they bat or bowl first..............

no doubt look forward to sending this exact same meesage next year..............

You don't think the higher-placed sides get enough advantages already ?
Automatic advancement to the Grand Final or possibly the winning of a premiership when there is no result are pretty big advantages I think.

yes Razza you get the advantage of rain. Wow. An advantage that applies once every 10 years - if that. Gee thanks for that. after working all year and doing everything we can to get a top 2 spot thats our advantage...........

And both teams that won the toss on the weekend won the game.

Interesting...............

Rider,

Not sure why you are so peeved with the toss of the coin? As far as I am aware it's always been used (please correct me if I'm wrong) to determine who bats or bowls first.

As for both A grade teams winning the toss then subsequently winning the game - well I think you are being a little bit disrespectful to the teams involved if you think that was the only factor that decided the results.

I think the teams that played better cricket won on the weekend...... interesting.

Everyone who knows cricket understands the importance of the toss of the coin, but in the end to win a game you still have to be able to bowl out the opposition for less runs than you make - unless weather intervenes. The toss doesn't always influence that.

The semi final is the hardest game of the year to win, the advantage of first playing fourth and second playing third and the wet weather benefit is all that is required to compensate teams for finishing higher on the ladder. Yes indeed for working your arse off all year, the reward you get for a top two finish is to play off for a Grand Final spot against a lower ranked opponent. If you can't win the semi final on that then you weren't good enough on the day!

Thats my opinion anyway.

Steve.

not sure 1st playing 4th is that big an advantage in cricket. maybe in footy where its 22 on 22. but in cricket its only 11 on 11. All you need is 1 player to go nuts and make 150 or take 7 fa and its season over. not saying the toss is be all and end all by any means. i just think those teams that have done the yards from Oct to Feb and got themself a top 2 birth deserve any little advantage they can get. and you would admit that winning a toss is an advantage however small it is so why should it go to the 4th team? Saying just coz we've always used the toss is no argument at all. You don't still drive around in a horse and cart do ya Stevo???? Change isn't always a bad thing..........

but as you say - its purely an opinion thing. but something to talk about anyway

On that logic, why don't we do away with the toss throughout the year and the home side gets to choose what they want to do first ? They already get advantages in how the wicket is prepared, but that's not enough, is it ???

Those who have been around long enough know that with the exception of probably the last 5 years due to drought, it always rains during cricket finals in March.

The rain certainly helped our 2s on the weekend. Point won the toss and bowled as they probably saw that as their best chance of winning - knocking our boys over then chasing them down - almost exact same scenario as Brown Hill in the 1s. The rain caused both of them to have to force a result.

Wendouree by bowling first knew they could waste enough time by bowling first, then chase the runs or shut up shop as they did not have to force a result to get through - East had to make all the running. As it turned out, Wendouree were good enough to win anyway.

Let me throw up a suggestion that is out of left field - how about 1 v 2, 3 v 4 in the first week, loser game 1 plays winner game 2 in a prelim and we cut the GF back to 2 days ?

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Congratulations to all the sides the made the GF - great effort in particular by Brown Hill, beating last years Grand Finalists in consecutive weeks.

Good to see our old boys in Dash and Hammer involved also....

Re the Finals system - how about we get rid of 2 Dayers all together pay 18 Rounds of 1 Dayers, then you could easilly play a top 5 - all rep cricket that we play is one dayers, so why not....

How good a run has Simon Lockyer had since Christmas 5 fa in the Semi and 50, what an effort!!!

Good luck to all involved.

yes wrighty the top teams benefited this weekend coz it rained. the first time its rained in finals since the 2000/2001 year. So for the 7 seasons in between the team that finished top starts semi final day on the exact same footing as the team that finished 4th. i just think thats unfair. for those that have been round long enough you say. well i've been around a while digger and I wouldn't say "it always rains in finals"

happy with your last paragraph. actually very relieved you put it in. it was about time you said something that made any sense............:)
